The Philadelphia Phillies fanbase saw one of their fan-favorite players become the center of attention, and not for a good reason. In the middle of the series against the Miami Marlins, Phillies manager Rob Thomson benched Nick Castellanos for inappropriate comments made after getting pulled for a defensive substitution late in the game.

Afterwards, Thomson and Castellanos put it behind them. After Castellanos made a game-winning catch in right field in his first game back since his benching, there were plenty of comments about his defense.
Devan Kaney of 94 WIP made a post on Twitter/X that said, "Ok Casty! Proving he can play RF just fine." A little while later, Jess Castellanos, Nick's wife, commented on that post from Kaney, which called her and others questioning Nick Castellanos out for their criticism of his defensive performance.
"414 straight games no errors," Jess Castellanos posted. "National league record holder. Eyes off the computer, watch the game."

In his first game back, Castellanos made a great play to win the game, which prompted this response from Jess. While Castellanos does have a solid record of not committing errors, with how games are scored in today's game, it's not as impressive a stat.
Scorers give out hits significantly more frequently, and it doesn't account for plays Castellanos can't get to a ball due to a poor read or jump. Jess's mention to get their "eyes off the computer" is about the advanced defensive metrics, which paint a very negative picture of Castellanos' defense.

According to Baseball Savant's Fielding Run Value, Castellanos is the worst defender in the league with a negative nine FRV. By Outs Above Average (OAA), Castellanos is the third-worst defender in the league with a negative eight OAA.

Between the two stats, Castellanos is graded out as the worst defender in baseball. His defense doesn't allow him to rack up errors because he isn't able to get close to as many balls as other outfielders.
His range, arm, speed, jump time, and glove work are all below average at best. He's not the best defender, but if he does get to a ball, he typically makes a play. That's his strongest trait. The issue is that he can't get to a lot of balls in right field.
While Castellanos returned to the field, his wife, Jess, took to social media to defend him amid the fans' complaints over his defense. With his defense still an issue, there will likely be plenty more moments throughout the year that will spark heated debate. Whether it leads to Jess defending Nick on social media again is left to be seen.

Guard overhaul under Scott Peters The Bengals cut Alex Cappa and restructured Cordell Volson's deal after both struggled to protect Burrow from interior pressure last season. They signed veteran G/C Lucas Patrick and drafted Dylan Fairchild out of Georgia. Burrow is healthy, and he's surrounded by Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins — arguably the NFL's top WR duo — for at least the next few seasons. The plan for 2025 looks simple: score early, score often, and force opposing offenses into one-dimensional, catch-up mode. Hopefully, it works better this time than it did a year ago. Al Golden ushers in a new era of defensive success — hopefully Golden takes over for Lou Anarumo, now in Indianapolis, after the Bengals' defense played a leading role in keeping them out of the playoffs last year. Other than the rookies and a few rotational free agents, the 2025 defensive personnel looks very similar to 2024's — meaning it won't take long to see if coaching really was the problem. Advertisement Golden's full plans remain unclear, especially with Hendrickson and Stewart still absent. But frankly, it's going to be hard to be worse than last year's unit. Two players who drew good reviews in OTAs were veteran defensive tackle TJ Slaton and second-round rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. They may end up being the two biggest upgrades the Bengals defense gets this year, especially if Shemar Stewart continues to sit out and miss valuable development when training camp begins. Stadium upgrade plans Paycor Stadium's lease is quickly running out, and the Brown/Blackburn family is deep in negotiations with Hamilton County. Predictably, things in the Queen City are getting messy. Advertisement Expect this to get uglier before it gets resolved in the coming weeks. Not messing around During one OTA session, Burrow threw an interception on a pass intended for Mike Gesicki — one that Cam Taylor-Britt jumped for a pick. The corner, in need of a bounce-back year, wasn't shy about celebrating it. On the very next play, though, Burrow hit Chase deep, burning DJ Turner for what would've been a touchdown. That's the edge this team seems to have taken into the offseason. They took one on the chin last year and appear determined to prove it was an exception, not the rule. Spotlight on the front office The 2024 9-8 season will go down as one of the NFL's wildest statistical outliers. The NBA writer confidently believed in what Golden State's plans for the event should be. The Bleacher Report writer continued: "This team lacks a backup point guard behind Stephen Curry and should be eyeing older college players who can step in immediately to the back end of the rotation. A reliable presence off the bench would certainly help Golden State's offense next season. However, another standout need for the Warriors is the frontcourt. ESPN had Golden State selecting Rocco Zikarsky out of the NBL with the 41st overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Zikarsky was once thought of as a potential lottery pick in the early-goings of the draft process for this season. However, an uneventful season, apart from injuries, led to his stock plummeting with the draft date in sight. Zikarsky played 20 games this past season. The Australian big man averaged 4.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in 12.1 minutes per game. This potential selection would represent a gamble on the upside that was originally thought to be there with the 7-foot-4-inch giant.
