Scouting a potential Boston Celtics draft pick out of Penn State
The Boston Celtics have two picks in the upcoming NBA Draft. They will be selecting with the 28th and 32nd picks. Brad Stevens will likely prioritize players who have spent multiple years at the collegiate level, meaning they're more polished entering the league and have a better chance of earning some minutes off the bench.
Following Jayson Tatum's Achilles tendon injury, Boston isn't expected to be a championship contender next season. As such, the Celtics could put some additional focus into the upcoming draft and their overall player development.

During a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance dove into Yanic Konan Niederhauser, who is expected to be available in Boston's range. The 7-foot big man spent two seasons with the Northern Illinois Huskies before moving to Penn State for the 2024-25 collegiate season. In 29 outings, he averaged 12.9 points, 2.3 blocks and 6.3 rebounds, shooting 61.1% from the field.

The Boston Red Sox made a move that, at the time, wasn't expected to be consequential. But, partway into the 2025 season, his addition would prove to be massive for the Red Sox. That move was the addition of first baseman Abraham Toro. Advertisement In the offseason, Toro was deciding between the Red Sox and the New York Yankees. He picked the Red Sox, and in a recent interview with the Play Tessie podcast, he revealed why he made that decision. "For me, it was a couple of things," Toro began explaining. "Just how they talked, and how they saw me, even though it was a minor league deal, they said I could be a good fit in the long run." The initial fit has worked out great for both sides, as Triston Casas went down with a season-ending injury and Toro got the call-up to the big leagues. His role became hugely important for Boston, and the foresight from the team in viewing Toro as a good fit in the long run worked out perfectly. Advertisement But, Toro wasn't done revealing why he chose Boston over New York. "And also," Toro continued. "For me, it was [Alex] Cora. You know, just in the past, I would see him use the lineup. He uses the whole lineup, even the bench guys. So that was very attractive." It normally wouldn't be an issue, but after the Rafael Devers debacle, it's become much more noticeable when a player isn't supporting Cora or the team. With Boston in 2025, Toro has been incredible. He has a .308 batting average with five home runs and 33 hits in 107 at-bats. His .865 OPS is a great number that shows how much he's meant to the team in 2025. Advertisement Among batters with at least 100 at-bats for the team in 2025, it's third behind only Alex Bregman and Devers. With Devers off the team and Bregman hurt, Toro has the highest OPS of any starter in the lineup with at least 100 at-bats. Toro has become a fan favorite in Boston after his strong start to his Red Sox career. With his offensive resurgence in the wake of Casas's injury and Devers' refusal to play first, the team has avoided a massive hole at the position as Toro's locked it down since his Red Sox debut. Once the Boston Red Sox officially traded away Rafael Devers, a flurry of comments came out about the two sides breaking apart. Red Sox legend David Ortiz made some comments, mainly targeted towards Devers, which claimed the Red Sox designated hitter didn't respond to Ortiz's messages. Advertisement While not a significant claim, it was one of many comments Ortiz made amid the Red Sox shipping Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Those comments from Ortiz led to another Red Sox legend, Pedro Martinez, to call out Ortiz for his comments made amid the Devers drama. On Bleacher Report Walk-Off, Martinez called out Ortiz for his comments and how he acted amid the Red Sox trading away Devers. "Big Papi also made a mistake in spring training by speaking in front of the cameras about some of the things he needed to tell Devers," Martinez said. "That should've been handled in-house. ... Being open and sharing his thoughts in front of the cameras, as Ortiz did, didn't help the ongoing drama surrounding Devers and the organization. "I don't like to hear those comments after things happened like that. I would've loved for Big Papi to come over, grab Devers, got to a restaurant, go to his house, throw a bar-b-que, and talk to Devers in his house." Advertisement Martinez, who, unlike Ortiz, isn't a member of the Red Sox, was frustrated with how Ortiz handled things. While Ortiz managing the situation differently might not have led to a change in the problem, it at least wouldn't have put Devers in such a difficult spot. Pining Devers against Ortiz is a bad look, and with how the situation unfolded, based on Ortiz's public comments, that's the way things looked. Their inability to communicate was an overarching issue in the Devers drama. As a fellow Red Sox legend, Martinez wasn't afraid to call out Ortiz for how he handled things. He criticized Ortiz for how he handled the situation and wished he had approached it behind closed doors.
