Glasgow offers plenty of green spaces and parks for enjoying the sunshine, but if you're craving a change of scenery, Glasgow Live rounded up some fantastic lesser-known spots within easy reach of the city. Whether you fancy a coastal trip for classic fish and chips or a family adventure in Dumfries and Galloway, these destinations promise something special for everyone.
Close to home...
Chatelherault Country Park
Just 25 minutes from Glasgow near Hamilton, Chatelherault is one of Scotland's oldest and most beautifully designed estates. It's a perfect family day out, especially if you have pets, with plenty to explore. The striking country house features an in-house coffee shop to refuel, while the grounds boast immaculate greens, stunning views, woodland walks, and even an adventure park where kids can burn off energy. On Sundays, visitors can browse the local market for unique finds.
Caldermill Waterfall
Popular with cyclists, Caldermill Waterfall in Lochwinnoch lies just 40 minutes from Glasgow. True to its name, it features a charming waterfall tumbling beside a cycle path, making it a scenic and refreshing spot to visit.

Crawick Multiverse
For something truly unique, head about an hour from Glasgow to the Crawick Multiverse near Dumfries. Once an open cast coal mine, this major land art project has been transformed into nine new 'landforms,' each representing different aspects of space and the universe.
It's a fascinating blend of education and natural beauty. Nearby, families can stay in a lovely stone barn conversion at Sanquhar, which also welcomes dogs.
Jupiter Artland

Lochgoilhead
Just over an hour from Glasgow lies Lochgoilhead, a charming village famed as one of Scotland's most beautiful spots. Part of the Loch Lomond area, it offers unspoiled scenery along peaceful river walks where the sunlight dances on the water. Wildlife watchers might spot deer, badgers, squirrels, or even the occasional eagle.

Sam Heughan has shared his astonishment at being met with sunny weather in Australia. The Scottish actor, who is Down Under for the the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming expo, filmed an Instagram Reel on Thursday as he strolled along Sydney 's famous Bondi Beach. The 45-year-old noted the clear skies and lack of snow or ice, with Sydney's winter weather reaching a mild peak of 16 degrees Celsius the day the video was filmed. 'Winter. Sam may have gotten more of what he expected later in the night, when temperatures dropped to seven degrees Celsius once the sun went down. Last year, Sam signed up to the celebrity dating app Raya in a bid to find love, MailOnline revealed. Despite being known for his role as the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in Outlander, the actor is yet to find his dream partner. Sam, who was last seen enjoying a romance with Australian model Monika Clarke in 2022, decorated his Raya profile with a slew of hunky snaps, and lists his main location as the UK. MailOnline contacted a representative for Sam Heughan for comment. Incredible UK seaside town is an 'escape like no other' but there's a catch
A charming seaside town surrounded by rugged cliffs, lush countryside and golden sandy beaches seems to have it all. However, eagle-eyed visitors will notice there is one thing missing As the UK's sewage-infested coastline continues to decline, one stunning seaside town has managed to preserve its charm, which dates all the way back to Victorian times. Nestled on Devon's Jurassic Coast, and surrounded by amber cliffs, rolling countryside, and golden sandy beaches, lies the coastal gem of Sidmouth. Often touted as one of the 'best places to live in the UK', this unspoiled resort is an 'escape like no other' and attracts thousands of tourists every year. "Sidmouth offers a range of exciting attractions and outdoor activities," hails Visit Devon, the area's official tourist board. "Walk along the scenic South West Coast Path, visit the beautiful Connaught Gardens, or enjoy a day at Sidmouth Beach. Families will love exploring The Donkey Sanctuary, while history lovers can step back in time at Sidmouth Museum." However, there is one thing that seems to be lacking. Despite its eclectic offerings, including several museums, tennis courts, and an indoor swimming pool, Sidmouth hasn't welcomed the rows of flashing arcades that usually define seaside towns across the country. In fact, according to Google Maps, there is only one place in the entire town where you can try winning a stuffed teddy on the claw machine: Pastimes Amusements. Travellers have branded the arcade one of the country's 'best', with one customer raving: "A very nice little arcade! We only stopped in for a few minutes, but found the manager there incredibly helpful. It was very clean and had a decent selection of games for both children and over-18s." Another agreed, hailing: "It's compact, fun-filled, and [has] friendly staff too." If you can get past the distinct lack of arcades, dance mats, and candy floss, Sidmouth should be at the top of your bucket list. Situated some 166 miles from London, getting to Sidmouth takes just under four hours in the car. However, direct trains to Honiton can slash the journey time to just two hours and 47 minutes. If you're flexible with dates, you can grab a single adult fare for as little as £30. After arriving in Honiton, you'll need to take a 21-minute taxi down to Sidmouth, or you can catch the bus from Lace Walk - which takes around 40 minutes. There is a range of accommodation types in Sidmouth, making it a great destination for those on a budget - as well as those wanting to splash out. For example, a weekend's stay (Friday, June 27-29) at the four-star Adults-Only Belmont Hotel will set you back £369. This is based on two adults sharing a Double Room. However, staying at the Buckley Farmhouse B&B on the exact same nights costs just £224. This is based on two people sharing a Double Room and includes an 'exceptional breakfast'. However, it's worth knowing this accommodation is located two miles from Sidmouth centre and seafront - so may only be suitable for those bringing their car.
