Max Returns As HBO Max (Again) After 2 Years Of Rebranding
Here's an official announcement that sounds like a joke but isn't: Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, is changing its name back to….wait for it, HBO Max. The rebranding will take place this summer, two years after Warner Bros. Discovery dropped 'HBO' from the title.
The effort was even more short-lived in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, where it only launched last November with the Standard and Ultimate subscription tiers. More recently, its logo was also tweaked to the classic black-and-white HBO colour scheme, replacing the purple background from before.
'Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead,' David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a news release.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, added: 'With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognised as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for.'
The company is no stranger to name changes, with its origins dating back to HBO Go, established as the original streaming service for HBO cable users in 2010. The release of HBO Now followed in 2015, allowing non-cable subscribers to stream content before both platforms were absorbed into HBO Max. To say that its history is confusing is probably an understatement for most.
In any case, Max will revert to HBO Max sometime in Summer 2025 (and hopefully, can keep it for a longer time).

'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Boldly Ends With Shortened Season 5
The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has yet to air, but the end is already in sight. In a surprising twist for one of the most successful and popular shows in recent years, Paramount+ confirmed that Season 5 will be its last outing, with production beginning later this year. Instead of the usual 10 episodes, which is set to continue into the fourth season, the concluding run will be reduced to six episodes. The news comes amid cost-cutting measures at Paramount Global, following an earlier announcement to reduce its U.S.-based headcount by 15 percent. On the flip side, it's worth noting that none of the newer Star Trek entries have gotten past five seasons, which may or may not be related to Captain Kirk's talk of a five-year mission from its earliest days. 'From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honour what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible,' said executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and Alex Kurtzman in a joint statement. 'We're deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who've boldly joined us on this journey — thank you. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.' Taking place in the years when Capt. Christopher Pike led the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk took over, the prequel series debuted in 2022 and has since been nominated for multiple awards. The upcoming third season, premiering on 17 July in the U.S., stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn, along with guest star Carol Kane, and special guest star Paul Wesley. It won't mark the end of Star Trek 's legacy, with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy next in line to launch into space. Hailing from showrunner Noga Landau, it stars Holly Hunter as a Starfleet captain who leads the Academy, and is expected to drop either this year or early 2026. As for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , both Season 4 and 5 remain undated. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get. 'Sesame Street' Rescued By Netflix After HBO Ends Partnership
Five months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its deal for the iconic children's program Sesame Street on HBO and Max, streaming giant Netflix has stepped in to save the beloved show, signing a deal with Sesame Workshop to air new episodes on both the streaming platform and PBS. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new deal will differ from the one made with HBO as new episodes of Sesame Street will air concurrently on Netflix, PBS and the PBS Kids app in order to make it accessible to all. Previously, episodes would only debut on PBS months after first arriving on HBO and its Max streaming service. 'This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix's global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love,' said Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin in a statement to the media. Netflix's deal with Sesame Street will begin later this year with season 56 of the show, which is set to be a reimagining of the program's format, dropping its long-running 'magazine'-style format in favour of longer narrative-driven segments. In addition, a new animated segment called Tales From 123 will be incorporated into the episodes amidst its traditional live-action portions, with Netflix adding that the new season will be released in three batches. Netflix is also set to provide expanded access to the program for free, ensuring that the legacy of the long-running TV show remains secure for years to come. The new deal with Netflix and PBS not only marks good tidings financially for the Sesame Workshop non-profit, but also allows millions of children worldwide to continue enjoying to stories of Elmo and his friends as they set forth on a journey to their new home.
