Justice will be ensured for complainants, says SP Ratna
Puttaparthi: District Superintendent of Police (SP) V Ratna on Monday assured that justice will be delivered to complainants by conducting thorough investigations within the legal framework.
Participating in the Public Grievances Redressal System programme held at the Conference Hall of the District Police Office, she received a total of 80 complaints from the public.
Speaking on the occasion, she stated that all complaints would be investigated thoroughly in accordance with the law and resolved appropriately. She instructed concerned officials via phone to resolve legally valid issues immediately and to ensure that complaints are not repeated.
She emphasized swift and just action, directing officials to act promptly and deliver justice without delay. The grievances received during the programme included family disputes, land issues, cyber frauds, and property distribution conflicts.
Along with the SP, Puttaparthi DSP Vijay Kumar, Women's PS DSP Adinarayana, and Legal Advisor Sainath Reddy, along with police staff, also participated in the event.

NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of Kuppam woman's public assault
TIRUPATI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a shocking incident in Narayanapuram village of Kuppam mandal, Chittoor district, where a woman was tied to a tree and assaulted in front of her son over an unpaid loan. The commission described the act as a serious violation of human rights and issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The NHRC also acknowledged the formal complaint submitted by Tirupati MP M Gurumoorthy and said it has been clubbed with the suo motu case. The Commission warned that it is the state government's responsibility to ensure that such inhuman acts are not repeated and emphasised the need for accountability and preventive measures. The incident, which took place on June 16, involved a woman named Sirisha, whose husband had reportedly absconded after taking a loan, leaving behind his wife and three children. In his absence, the creditors allegedly tied Sirisha to a tree and beat her in front of her minor son, triggering widespread outrage.V The case drew immediate attention from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who represents the Kuppam constituency in the State Assembly. He condemned the incident and directed officials to take stringent action. The police arrested those involved and booked them under multiple sections of the BNS. In response to the incident, the State Government has announced a financial assistance package for the victim. Sirisha was granted Rs.5 lakh in aid, and the government has pledged to take responsibility for her children's education. Additionally, she will be allotted 50 cents of land within Kuppam municipality limits to help her rebuild her life.

Operation Kavach-8.0: 139 arrested, 133 cases filed in 24-hour drugs crackdown in Delhi
In a single-day crackdown under the Delhi Police's 'Operation Kavach 8.0', 139 narcotics offenders were arrested and 133 cases were filed under the NDPS Act, officers said on Friday. The operation was conducted between 6 pm on Wednesday and 6 pm on Thursday. It resulted in the seizure of 90.3 grams of heroin, 25.9 kg of ganja, 3.32 grams of cocaine, 4.63 grams of MDMA, 20.08 grams of amphetamine, and 12 buprenorphine tablets, said police. The operation was carried out by over 350 teams from all 15 districts, the Crime Branch, and the Special Cell, covering 1,040 targeted locations. It was supervised by senior officers, including Special Commissioner of Police, Crime, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, and Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Surender Singh. Alongside NDPS enforcement, 224 people were arrested in 217 Excise Act cases, with the seizure of 47,476 illicit quarter bottles of liquor. Thirty persons were held in 29 Arms Act cases, leading to the recovery of pistols, cartridges, and knives. In addition, 55 gamblers were arrested and over Rs 25,000 in cash was seized. Police also prosecuted 2,031 violators under the Tobacco Act, seized over 1.7 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes, and intercepted e-cigarettes worth Rs 9.38 lakh. An 18-year-old linked to the anti-Lawrence Bishnoi gang was also caught with four semi-automatic pistols. Officials said the crackdown has pushed major traffickers underground and disrupted smuggling networks. 'Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2,031 violators were prosecuted and one person was arrested with over 1.71 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes and 469 e-cigarettes,' said the Srivastava. Prohibited e-cigarettes worth around Rs 9.38 lakh were also seized from a shop in Safdarjung Enclave, police said. The senior police officer said that since January 2025, a total of 1,439 narco-offenders have been arrested in 1,127 NDPS cases, with seizures of nearly 38 kg of heroin, over 3,000 kg of cannabis, and other contraband. Sambhal violence: Charge sheet details SP MP Barq's conversation with Jama Masjid president
MEERUT The UP Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has named Samajwadi Party MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq and Jama Masjid Committee president Zafar Ali as the main conspirators in the violence that broke out near Sambhal's Shahi Jama Masjid in November last year. The 1,100-page charge sheet filed in the case highlights a conspiracy to obstruct the lawful survey through mob mobilisation and incitement. According to the charge sheet, the SP MP's personal assistant's father, Rizwan, an electrician at the mosque, also played a pivotal role in assembling the mob. (File Photo) 'The charge sheet details multiple conversations that took place between Barq and Shahi Jama Masjid's president Zafar Ali from November 22 to 24. They conspired to stop the court-ordered survey and were responsible for gathering the crowd on November 24, the day on which widespread violence broke out,' said SP (Sambhal) KK Bishnoi. According to the charge sheet, the SP MP's personal assistant's father, Rizwan, an electrician at the mosque, also played a pivotal role in assembling the mob. Acting on the instructions of Barq, Rizwan made several calls to people from areas around the Jama Masjid and from Sarai Tareen, urging them to gather in large numbers to prevent the survey scheduled for November 24. Rizwan's call detail records (CDRs), reviewed by the police, corroborated this account. Investigation revealed that individuals contacted by Rizwan were also directly involved in orchestrating the violence. Their participation was confirmed through phone conversations and subsequent evidence gathered during the probe. In total, 23 individuals have been named as accused in the charge sheet. Some have been arrested, while others have been served notices under Section 35(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The charge sheet states that Zafar Ali, the mosque committee president, first received information about the impending survey late on November 23. He immediately informed MP Barq, who responded that the survey must not be allowed to proceed and instructed for a crowd to be gathered. Barq held multiple conversations with Rizwan that night, directing him to organise resistance. The next morning, a large crowd assembled, ultimately resulting in violent clashes, it further stated. Zafar Ali is also accused of holding a press conference after the incident and issuing misleading statements about the events and the legality of the survey. Despite multiple rounds of questioning, he failed to provide any substantial evidence and eventually admitted that the MP had instructed the gathering of the crowd. Zafar Ali has been in judicial custody since March 23. In addition to Zafar Ali, five other office-bearers of the Jama Masjid Committee have been named as accused. While none of these five have been arrested, they have been served legal notices under Section 35(3). The SIT has recorded statements of 14 key witnesses, including police officers and advocates, who were present during the violence. These testimonies, the charge sheet notes, are critical and provide first-hand accounts of the events as they unfolded. The son of SP MLA Iqbal Mehmood, Suhail Iqbal, who was initially named in the FIR along with 700–800 unidentified individuals, has been given a clean chit by the SIT. Though his presence at the site was confirmed, no active role in instigating or participating in the violence was found. A controversial speech delivered by MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq on November 22 outside the Jama Masjid has been cited as a major trigger in the charge sheet. In his speech, Barq had stated that the mosque's survey was illegal and declared that 'this was a mosque and will remain a mosque.' The SIT argues that this inflammatory statement created a highly sensitive atmosphere, directly contributing to the violence that erupted two days later. The speech has been included as evidence and will be presented in court. Notably, Barq, protected by a high court stay on arrest, was questioned for four hours on April 8 in Delhi. Zafar Ali was arrested in March based on 'emerging evidence' of his involvement. With his bail applications rejected, Ali, also a practicing lawyer, remains in jail.
