You may have paid a substantial amount of taxes to the government during your professional life, but it does not mean that you will stop paying taxes once you retire. There are states that tax your retirement income, too, other than a few. Here's a look at some of the US regions that do not tax your retirement income.
No one in Alaska pays state taxes, as the region does not levy an income tax. This clearly means that you will not be taxed for the retirement benefits received, including the likes of Social Security benefits, pension income, or 401(k) or IRA distributions, according to a USA Today report. However, local sales taxes in Alaska can reach as far as 8%, and therefore, you need to make your necessary calculations before making a move.
Florida comes next, with no state tax on 401(k), 403(b), or IRA distributions, pension distributions, and more. Even for estate or inheritance tax, as well as for essential products like groceries, Florida does not issue any kind of state tax, which is a major relief for the residents. However, public transportation issues and rising insurance rates in the region could be a major problem there.
Illinois has a reasonable taxation rate of 4.95 per cent on income, but the best part is that it does not levy any taxes on retirement income.

Kroger employees affected by closure of 60 stores to be offered jobs at nearby stores

Kroger, one of the United States' largest supermarket chains, announced plans to close approximately 60 stores nationwide over the next 18 months. The supermarket chain made the revelation in the company's first-quarter 2025 sales report on June 20. According to a USA Today report, Kroger's decision to close down the stores comes as a part of their effort to streamline their operations and improve efficiency amid recent layoffs and leadership transition. Kroger's interim CEO Ron Sargent, who assumed the role after the sudden resignation of longtime CEO Rodney McMullen in March following an internal ethics probe, confirmed the news of closure. Sargent, as per USA Today, said during a conference call that the stores which will be facing closure are 'unprofitable' and spread across the US. Kroger stated that the employees at the impacted locations will be offered roles at the other nearby stores. A spokesperson Erin Rolfes told USA Today that Kroger would not be providing a list at the moment. Sargent noted that the decision to close stores aligned with the company's broader goal of reinvesting in customer experience with their 2025 capital expenditure budget projected at $3.6 billion to $3.8 billion. The investment will be diverted toward building new stores and upgrading the existing ones, including expansions and renovations. Restructuring follows CEO resignation and two rounds of layoffs The news of closure followed two rounds of layoffs earlier this year which impacted non-store employees. The exact number of roles eliminated was not disclosed though. Kroger, according to the report, had said at the time that the company was focusing on priority areas which support their go-to-market strategy and that the job cuts were made to 'improve efficiency'. Kroger is going through some big changes right now, including store closures, while they figure things out with their leadership. They have over 409,000 employees across the country, and while they look for a permanent CEO, Sargent has stepped in as the interim leader, the report added. Even though they are cutting down on the number of stores, Kroger assured everyone that these moves are meant to help them stay stable and better serve customers at the stores that are staying open. FAQs Q: Why is Kroger closing stores? A: Kroger is closing around 60 underperforming stores to improve efficiency and redirect resources toward enhancing the customer experience. Q: Has Kroger released the list of store closures? A: No, Kroger has not publicly shared which stores are closing at this time. Q: What will happen to employees at the closing locations? A: Kroger says all employees will be offered positions at other nearby store locations. Q: Who is Kroger's current CEO? A: Ron Sargent is serving as Kroger's interim CEO after Rodney McMullen resigned in March 2025.

Rs 3200000000000000: This huge amount is giving US president Trump sleepless nights, he is now begging before China due to... Difficult days are ahead for Prsident Donald Trump as US's national debt has crossed $37 trillion (about Rs 32 lakh billion). This has rung alarm bells in the financial and policy world. The cost of paying interest on the debt is reaching about $1 trillion every year. This level can soon cripple the federal budget. It can stop the essential work of the government. As of June 20, the US government owes more than the country's entire economy in a year. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that if there is no major reform, the debt will reach 156% of GDP by 2055. Currently, an annual deficit of $2 trillion is increasing the debt. This is happening due to increased spending and slow growth in revenue. The biggest threat is the interest bill. About a quarter of the federal tax income is now being spent on repaying the debt. This means that less money will be left for programs like Social Security, Medicare, national defense and infrastructure. Millions of Americans depend on these programs. The debt of $37 trillion is a matter of great concern for US in many ways. It affects US's economic policies and global relations. It is also considered to be the reason behind Donald Trump's softening of tone against China in the trade war. This loan can create many problems Budget cuts aren't the only threats. Economists say this debt route could reduce private investment, raise borrowing costs and hamper economic growth. The CBO estimates that if the debt is not brought under control, GDP could be reduced by $340 billion over the next decade, it could lose 1.2 million jobs and slow wage growth. Raising interest rates would worsen the damage. As global lenders demand higher returns to finance the U.S. deficit, borrowing costs will rise for businesses, homeowners and the federal government. Threat of financial crisis is increasing on US The risk of a financial crisis is increasing. If investors lose faith in the government's ability to manage finances, there could be a sharp rise in interest rates or a collapse of the dollar. This could weaken economic stability. There could be global shocks. However, the US economy is still growing. But its pace has slowed down considerably. This year GDP growth is estimated to be just 1.4%–1.6%. Unemployment is rising. Inflation is still above target. The margin for error is shrinking. The old sayings of economists, business leaders and people like Elon Musk are now coming true. If America continues on this path, not only will future generations pay the price for it, but this crisis may come very soon.
