Cops dismantle huge drugs gang as over 100 arrested and 11 kids saved from grooming
Detectives rescued 11 children who were at risk of being groomed for so-called county-line activities.
A major police crackdown has dismantled a Scots organised crime gang, with around 100 arrests and more than 200kg worth of drugs seized.
As well as the huge drug haul — which included cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, pills and herbal cannabis — police recovered more than £600,000 in cash, ammunition, and three firearms, including a handgun, air weapon and a BB gun.
Detectives also rescued 11 children who were at risk of being groomed for so-called county-line activities. The vulnerable youngsters were either referred to partner agencies or placed with family members.
Operation Intensity, launched in May 2023, targeted a organised criminal network operating in Dumfries, Ayrshire, and Central Scotland — with links spanning as far as Argyll to Tayside. Officers from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit led the investigation.
Police Scotland say the gang ran a sophisticated County Lines-style operation, with couriers travelling by car to supply drugs using so-called 'dealing lines', which were regularly resupplied from safe houses.
46 search warrants were executed across both rural and urban areas, resulting in arrests and seizures.
Detective Superintendent Stevie Elliot said: "This operation is a clear example of how we use our national resources, alongside the knowledge of our local policing teams, to bring down large gangs operating across the country.
"Our strategy was maximising the safety of the public and protecting vulnerable people, particularly children and young people who are all too often coerced and groomed by County Lines drug dealers.
"Organised criminal gangs show no shame or remorse for their actions and all their activities are focused on profiting from exploitation.
"Illegal substances cause real harm and misery to individuals, families and communities. These arrests and seizures highlight our dedication to tackling organised networks in Scotland."
Police Scotland said the operation reflects its ongoing commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce, which uses a multi-agency approach to disrupt dangerous criminal groups.

DS Elliot added: 'This shows our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce where we work with partners on a multi-agency approach to tackling the threat of OCGs.
"We cannot do this alone and we need the public's help to rid these gangs from their communities.
"I would urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs or organised activities to contact Police Scotland on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Banning strangling in porn will help tackle violence against women, says Scots MP
EXCLUSIVE: Joani Reid said online videos are "influencing real-world behaviour" and hailed the UK Government's decision as "a step in the right direction." Banning strangling in pornography will help tackle violence against women, a Scots MP has said. Joani Reid said online videos are "influencing real-world behaviour" and hailed the UK Government's decision as "a step in the right direction." Last week the Labour Government announced it would outlaw "the depiction of strangulation in pornography" as part of its Crime and Policing Bill. East Kilbride and Strathaven MP Reid said the ban would "stop the normalisation of violence through pornography." violence against women should never be entertainment. "We now have clear evidence that violent and degrading pornography is influencing real-world behaviour. "Non-fatal strangulation is a serious and dangerous offence yet, until now, online platforms have been free to promote and profit from its depiction as a form of sexual gratification. That's indefensible. "This isn't about being prudish or anti-sex. It's about protecting women and girls from harm and stopping the normalisation of violence through pornography. For too long online platforms have operated without scrutiny, spreading extreme content with no accountability. "If we are serious about tackling violence against women we can't ignore the role the online world plays in shaping attitudes and behaviour. The decision is a big step in the right direction but there's much more to do.' It is already a criminal offence to possess porn depicting life-threatening acts, such as graphic strangulation. But the Government will tighten up the law to now criminalise the depiction of strangulation completely. A ban had been campaigned for by group of Labour MPs who had backed an amendment to the Crime and Policing bill. These included seven Scots MPs: Reid, Katrina Murray, Tracy Gilbert, Patricia Ferguson, Johanna Baxter, Kirsteen Sullivan and Richard Baker. The UK Government announcement follows the Independent Porn Review, which was conducted by Tory peer Gabby Bertin. The review found that pornography has effectively established strangulation during sex as a 'sexual norm'. It also found that pornography has helped cause a belief that strangling a partner during sex is 'safe' because it is believed to be non-fatal. This is despite overwhelming evidence that is is believed there is no safe way to strangle a person. UK Minister for Victims and tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Alex Davies-Jones said: "Depicting strangulation during sex is not only dangerous, but also degrading, with real life consequences for women. "Cracking down on the appalling rise of strangulation pornography will protect women and send a clear signal to men and boys that misogyny will not be tolerated." This pledge by the Labour Government is part of its vow to halve violence against women and girls during its time in office.

Dear Coleen: 'Eaten up with guilt over sleeping with my brother's wife'
We haven't spoken a word about it since, but we have to see each other at family events and things are tense between us. My brother still has no idea that anything happened. Dear Coleen Recently, I went on a night out with my mates from work and the group included my brother's wife, who works alongside me in the same department. It was a great night and everyone was having a good time … until the shots arrived. I got chatting to my sister-in-law about life and then we moved on to discussing my brother and she admitted that she's fallen out of love with him. The conversation got really deep and personal, and sparks started to fly. Unfortunately, one thing led to another and I ended up in bed with her. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! We haven't spoken a word about it since, but we have to see each other at family events and things are tense between us. My brother still has no idea that anything happened. What should I do, should I tell my brother what I did? The guilt is killing me and I think it's probably up to me to come clean, as I know his wife won't say anything. What would be worse for him? I've recently come through a divorce, so I understand how hard it is and know how it affected me mentally. I'd appreciate your opinion. Coleen says Whichever way you look at it, this is a bad situation and what you did was pretty unforgivable, which you know because the guilt is eating you up. Being drunk is not an excuse and won't ease the pain. I can't tell you what to do – I can just help you to look at it from all angles, so you can think it over, but don't make any knee-jerk decisions. To be completely honest, I think if you tell your brother, your relationship is as good as over. Ask yourself what your motive is for telling him – is it just about you and getting rid of your guilt by handing the problem to him? It is hard to live with guilt, but sometimes when you've made a bad choice, you have to. I guess there's a chance his wife will pursue a divorce, as it's clear the marriage is in trouble and she's admitted she's not in love with him, so your problem might go away. You could leave it and pray it never comes out – the danger is, if your brother and his wife get into an argument and she wants to hurt him, she might blurt out that she slept with you. So, the next question is, can you trust her? It's less important for her to keep what happened a secret because she can walk away and move on, but your relationship with your brother will be left in ruins. You say you've never spoken to her about that night, but maybe it would be a good idea to have a conversation during a break at work about how you handle things going forward. It might make things less awkward when you have to see each other with the rest of the family and provide some sort of reassurance.

Almost 500 Police Scotland officers and staff currently on long-term sick leave
The figures released under Freedom of Information come at a time of increasing violence towards officers. Almost 500 police officers and civilian support staff are currently on long-term sick leave, according to a new report. The figures released under Freedom of Information come at a time of increasing violence towards officers and claims of plummeting morale and mounting workloads leading to stress and other mental health problems. The Police Scotland report shows 340 cops and 143 office workers on long-term sick. Three cops have been off for more than three years. A further 16 have been absent for between two and three years and 48 absent for between one year and two years. The largest number – 151 cops and 54 civilian staff – have been off sick for between four months and a year. David Kennedy, general secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, representing the rank-and-file, said members are at breaking point. 'We have been warning about this for a while. The numbers going off sick are only going to get worse. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. 'The police service has got to do more to get them back to work. There's also no investment from the Scottish Government – they are not interested.' Kennedy added: 'People are tired of their conditions. They are done in. They have had enough. Assaults are going through the roof.' Last June, Police Scotland numbers dropped to 16,207, the lowest since records began in 2007. In 2023-24, 12,141 officers took sick leave – about 75 per cent of the force strength. Earlier this month it was revealed police are being assaulted on an almost hourly basis, with 7159 attacks last year – 425 more than in 2023. Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur added: 'The pressure-cooker conditions facing police officers are pushing too many to the brink. It's a vicious cycle because it stretches the officers who remain dangerously thin, making them more likely to leave as well.' Police Scotland said: 'We have a range of mechanisms in place to support our employees who are absent from work.' The Scottish Government said: 'Our continued investment has enabled Police Scotland to take on more recruits in the last financial year than at any time since 2013.'
