Recently, I went on a night out with my mates from work and the group included my brother's wife, who works alongside me in the same department.
It was a great night and everyone was having a good time … until the shots arrived. I got chatting to my sister-in-law about life and then we moved on to discussing my brother and she admitted that she's fallen out of love with him.
The conversation got really deep and personal, and sparks started to fly. Unfortunately, one thing led to another and I ended up in bed with her.

What should I do, should I tell my brother what I did? The guilt is killing me and I think it's probably up to me to come clean, as I know his wife won't say anything. What would be worse for him?
I've recently come through a divorce, so I understand how hard it is and know how it affected me mentally. I'd appreciate your opinion.

Whichever way you look at it, this is a bad situation and what you did was pretty unforgivable, which you know because the guilt is eating you up. Being drunk is not an excuse and won't ease the pain.
I can't tell you what to do – I can just help you to look at it from all angles, so you can think it over, but don't make any knee-jerk decisions.
To be completely honest, I think if you tell your brother, your relationship is as good as over. Ask yourself what your motive is for telling him – is it just about you and getting rid of your guilt by handing the problem to him?
It is hard to live with guilt, but sometimes when you've made a bad choice, you have to.
I guess there's a chance his wife will pursue a divorce, as it's clear the marriage is in trouble and she's admitted she's not in love with him, so your problem might go away. You could leave it and pray it never comes out – the danger is, if your brother and his wife get into an argument and she wants to hurt him, she might blurt out that she slept with you.
So, the next question is, can you trust her? It's less important for her to keep what happened a secret because she can walk away and move on, but your relationship with your brother will be left in ruins.
You say you've never spoken to her about that night, but maybe it would be a good idea to have a conversation during a break at work about how you handle things going forward.
It might make things less awkward when you have to see each other with the rest of the family and provide some sort of reassurance.

Woman catapulted from funfair ride at 60mph 'lucky to be alive'
"When I came off my ride I hit the ride next to me. They even said if I had hit that ride differently I would be dead. There was no way of surviving." A woman has said she is "lucky to be alive" after she was thrown into the air from a fairground ride at 60mph. Jade Harrison has spoken about her terrifying experience in October 2019, when the metal safety bar on the Airmaxx 360 ride at Hull Fair malfunctioned. She struck another ride in mid-air and fell to the ground unconscious. The 27-year-old from Hull was left with a fractured jaw and a catalogue of other injuries, and experienced difficulty breathing after the incident. Although an annual visitor to the fair, she wasn't planning to go on any rides until her friend said she wanted to try the Airmaxx 360, known for intense spins and swinging carriages, the Mirror reports. Jade recalled: "I wasn't planning on going on any rides. But my friend wanted to go on the Airmaxx 360. I didn't want to be left on my own." She added: "I watched it go around and I thought no that's alright I'll go on that." However, just 90 seconds after they set off, Jade heard a concerning clicking from her safety bar, but put it to the back of her mind after her friend said they heard the same sound. She said: "I didn't really panic." As the carriage suddenly shifted, her fears returned: "I just remember thinking I don't like that, I don't like that," she explained. "And then it was too late. She was flung from the ride, hitting another ride in mid-air before dropping to the ground and losing consciousness. She recalled: "All I remember is the feeling of flipping like you do in a dream when you wake up startled. "When I came to I was laid on the floor next to the ride but everyone was just around me and I was a bit confused. I kind of forgot where I was and what I was doing so it took me a minute to realise what had happened. "Then obviously I started panicking and everyone was telling me to calm down. It felt like ages for the paramedics to get there but in reality it was only about two minutes." Jade was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary, where medics found her to have a broken jaw requiring surgery to fit metal plates. She also suffered severe nerve damage in her right thigh, which still affects her today, as well as internal bruising, facial wounds and damaged teeth, which were later repaired or removed. She said: "I'm lucky to be alive. The most painful part was my chest. I couldn't sit up or take a deep breath. When I got home, I couldn't get out of bed without my partner's help." Jade stayed in hospital for four days, but was unable to work for nearly a year. Her treatment to restore her teeth continued into 2021, and said the psychological recovery took just as long. She explained: "I was in denial in the beginning. It was hard for me to accept that it happened to me," she admitted. "I would constantly tell myself I'm not going to think about it, I'm not going to think about it. But by doing that I was just delaying pain. "When I think about it deeply and I think how differently it could have gone I think I'm lucky to be alive. When I came off my ride I hit the ride next to me. "Luckily, I hit the ride the way that I did, so I hit the carriage, rather than the floor or anything else." Following her harrowing ordeal, Jade received a five-figure compensation payment from Taylor's Funfairs, which operated the ride and admitted it was at fault. The Health and Safety Executive shelved its criminal inquiry in 2023. An examination of the Airmaxx 360 revealed the safety bars were "inadequate". The experience has since left Jade terrified of rides. She said: "I would never go on a fairground ride again. I've been on the teacups with my nephew, but that's about as far as I'll go. Anything where my feet leave the ground isn't happening." She still lives with the effects of the incident, admitting it is a "prevalent factor" in her life. She continued: "When I look in the mirror I always notice my leg, my right thigh that is damaged. That's quite a big insecurity to me. That's the main thing that reminds me." As she is unable to have any further surgery on her leg due to it being considered aesthetic, she faces the possibility of not getting paid time off work. She is now calling for stricter measures to ensure similar incidents do not happen in future: "I definitely think something needs to be done to stop this happening. It just doesn't make sense."

According to a prevention of future deaths report issued by Senior Coroner Nicola Mundy in 2022, and published on June 18, 2025, the car was not known to have any defects, and had been serviced. When it came to a stop, however, the offside wheels of the car remained on the road in lane one of the motorway. Nargis, left the car and rested on the barrier, close to the car. The coroner states that just 16 minutes and 21 seconds later, a Mercedes car crashed into the rear of the car, crashing into the 62-year-old and leading to her death. The report found that in that 16 minutes and 21 second, 153 drivers passed by the stopped car but none of them alerted Highways England/ National Highways, or the emergency services. One witness the coroner spoke to stated he had discussed calling National Highways with his partner, but thought cameras on the motorway would detect the stopped car. The coroner investigated the stationary vehicle detection technology, and heard evidence that it was believed it would detect 80% or more of stationary vehicles in a timely fashion. After investigating, the coroner said there were three matters of concern for Highways England to take action on. These were the "lack of public understanding regarding the need for them to call National Highways should they identify a problem on the motorway network", the lack of emphasis on the importance of the responsibility of road users to alert the authorities of problems like stationary cars and the lack of a priority for this message despite public information during the SMART motorways rollout. National Highways responded by saying: "Mrs Begum's death was a tragedy, and our sympathies remain with her family and friends. "National Highways is the Government-owned company, sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT), charged with operating, maintaining and improving England's motorways and major A-roads. "Responsibility for local roads rests with local highway authorities and the road network in other parts of the UK rests with the devolved administrations." They say the government published a 'Smart Motorway Safety Evidence Stocktake and Action Plan' in March 2020 which sought to increase safety, and that National Highways had published reports in 2021 and 2022 showing the action they had taken towards achieving this. They said there was an ongoing programme of road safety activity intended to make roads safer, including a section on breakdown advice, and that action needed to be taken in wider consultation with others.
