Washington DC [US], June 17 (ANI): Actress Sarah Jessica Parker recently reflected on the backlash her iconic "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw received over the years.
Carrie's behavior on the sequel series 'And Just Like That' continues to be judged across social media, but Parker observed that it does not happen regularly to even the most despicable male characters in film and television, reported Variety.
In an interview with HuffPost UK, as quoted by Variety, Parker said that the reaction which female characters recieves is much more regular than the most despicable male characters in film and televison.
Sarah Jessica Parker recently spoke to HuffPost U.K. and reflected on all the backlash her iconic "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw has received over the years.
"It's always interesting to me that [Carrie is] so condemned, but a male lead on a show can be a murderer, and people love him. If a woman has an affair, or behaves poorly, or spends money foolishly, there's a kind of punitive response to it," said Jessica Parker as quoted by Variety.
Parker said that when it comes to the constant romantic misadventures of Carrie Bradshaw, viewers should remember "that smart people make bad decisions sometimes [and] are foolish in judgment," as quoted by Variety.
"I think, fundamentally, Carrie is an extraordinarily decent and good person - an extremely devoted friend, she's generous of spirit and time, in all she has to offer," said Parker as quoted by Variety.
Parker added, admitting that, of course, Carrie has "made mistakes" or "not been mature in love."
Parker currently stars as Carrie Bradshaw on the third season of "And Just Like That." New episodes premiere on Thursdays on Max. (ANI)

Anupam Kher joins thousands for Yoga Day celebration at Times Square

New York [US], June 21 (ANI): The heart of Manhattan transformed into a vibrant celebration of health and mindfulness as the Consulate General of India in New York, in collaboration with Times Square Alliance, hosted the 11th International Day of Yoga at the iconic Times Square. The all-day event, widely known as Solstice at Times Square, featured seven yoga sessions that drew nearly 10,000 participants from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. The event was graced by actor Anupam Kher, who shared a personal connection to yoga. "I'm extremely happy to be at the world's most iconic place, Times Square, on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, initiated by our beloved Prime Minister 11 years back. My grandfather was a yoga teacher, so I've seen that happening all my life. I practice yoga, and I can see the atmosphere all over the place. It's a very important message not only for physical health but also for mental health," he said. Kher also took to Instagram to express his gratitude, writing, "It was my privilege and my honour to be there for #Bharat for the 11th #InternationalYogaDay at the iconic #TimeSquare in New York! Thank you @indiainnewyork @binaysrikant76 ji for inviting me to this highly prestigious event. It was wonderful to practice #Yog in this great environment! Jai Hind!" The Consul General welcomed the gathering and emphasised the transformative power of yoga, highlighting its benefits not just for physical and mental well-being but also for fostering a deeper connection with nature. The event's theme for 2025, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' reflects a holistic vision of health and harmony for the planet and its people. This year's celebrations are part of a broader month-long initiative by the Indian Consulate, engaging communities across states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Connecticut. These programs have seen enthusiastic participation from both local residents and yoga practitioners. Since its inception in 2015, following a United Nations resolution initiated by India, the International Day of Yoga has grown into a worldwide movement. Observed on June 21, the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the day continues to promote the timeless message of unity, balance, and well-being. (ANI)

28 years later: Truth behind the haunting 110-year-old World War I chant; how a soldier's breakdown became a modern horror anthem

Danny Boyle's 2025 post-apocalyptic horror, 28 Years Later, features a spine-chilling chant that stirred buzz long before the film even dropped. When the first trailer starring Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer released, it had everything: eerie visuals, a broken world, the zombies, but the creepy voice in the background wasn't made specifically for the movie. That haunting cadence actually comes from a 100-year-old recording of 'Boots,' a 1903 poem by Rudyard Kipling. At first, it feels random. But with the chaos onscreen, it lands like a deranged war cry, unsettling and unforgettable. According to Boyle, who spoke to Variety, Rudyard Kipling wrote the poem to show how brutally repetitive life was for British soldiers who marched across southern Africa for weeks during the Boer War. It was recorded during World War I. The version used in the trailer is from the year 1915, read out by actor Taylor Holmes. At first, the chant sounds like a usual military drill, but by the end, the voice sounds hysterical, like it's losing control. For Boyle, it was a perfect way to capture the essence of the trailer. Also read: 28 Years Later Movie Review: Danny Boyle's legacy sequel leaves you hungry for what comes next The lyrics go as: 'I—have—marched—six—weeks in hell and certify It—is—not—fire—devils, dark, or anything, But boots—boots—boots—boots—movin up and down again.' 'And there's no discharge in the war! Try—try—try—try—to think of something different Oh—my—God—keep—me from going lunatic!' According to the Kipling Society, the poem has been used over and over for marches by various army units, and in some cases, given how disturbing it gets towards the end, it has also been used to assess psychological impact by the U.S. military in their schools. Sony's trailer ad team found the old clip and knew it was perfect. Boyle and writer Alex Garland heard it mixed over the zombie footage and said, 'Holy crap… that's it.' Then they modified their version and blended the recording with actual film, during a scene where the main character Spike and his father are walking to face off the enemies, just like a war-like situation. 'We had all these archives that we wanted to use to suggest the culture that the island was teaching its children,' Boyle told Variety. 'It was very much a regressive thing — they were looking back to a time when England was great. Boyle had considered Shakespeare's famous Saint Crispin's Day speech from Henry V, but it felt too obvious. 'Boots', on the other hand, had him gripped in one go. The low bass music under the chant increases the unease. 'We tried it in our archive sequence, and it was like it was made for. It,' the director said. Boyle said it was like the poem had been waiting over 100 years for this moment. It still carries the raw emotional power it did back then—even in our TikTok age.
