Amanda Black, Lira and Thandiswa to rock 10th Business Premium Jazz Fest
Women's excellence will be celebrated at the 10th edition of the Business Premium Jazz Festival. The Johannesburg leg is taking place on August 30 at 7pm at Carnival City, Ekurhuleni.
This year's theme — 'Embracing Women, Celebrating Excellence' — will shine a spotlight on SA's most dynamic female voices in music, with headlining performances by Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai and Amanda Black.
With August being Women's Month, the powerhouse artists will take centre stage on a night dedicated to honouring women's impact in the arts, business and society at large, paying tribute to their brilliance, resilience and influence.
'This year we wanted to do more than entertain; we wanted to honour women as a whole. We are acknowledging the extraordinary women who have shaped our cultural landscape and continue to inspire future generations," said organiser Richard Ramudzuli of Thikho Events.
The festival is a premium lifestyle experience curated for high-value audiences, cultural influencers and business leaders. With a capacity for 4,600 guests, it offers an exclusive platform for luxury, networking and celebration.

Mazwai marks Sankofa anniversary

Affectionately known as 'King Tha,' she appeared on the popular YouTube show in April 2024. Her episode was listed among the '10 Best Tiny Desk Concerts of 2024'. Mazwai had delivered a spiritual and breathtaking Tiny Desk performance in Washington, D.C., performing her well-known and cherished hits such as 'Nizalwa Ngobani?' and 'Ingoma.' The episode reaching 1 million views comes ahead of her show at The Lyric Theatre at Johannesburg's Gold Reef City. Playing with a Jazz quartet, the icon will be performing music from her albums 'Belede' and 'Sankofa' on Sunday, June 29. Mazwai shared her excitement about performing the body of works. 'It is a special treat for our fans who always ask to see this music live. 'Belede' is of course, a very special album for me and we are also celebrating a year since the release of 'Sankofa'.' 'Belede' is Mazwai's third solo studio album, released in 2016, a collection of reinterpretations of legendary South African Jazz and protest anthems from the 1950s and 1960s. 'Sankofa' is Mazwai's fourth studio album and was released in May 2024. 'Sankofa' is a Ghanaian Twi word that means 'to go back and fetch what has been left behind'. The making of this record embodied that idea. Recorded in Johannesburg, Dakar, and New York, the album combines archival Xhosa samples (which were sourced from the International Library of African Music at Rhodes University), jazz and West African music. Afropop group The Soil to set stage alight at Heavyweights Live Concert
All roads lead to Carnival City's Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni this Youth Day weekend for the Heavyweights Live Concert. The concert on Saturday features a heavyweight lineup of music icons Sjava, Big Zulu, The Soil and Ntokozo Mkhize. 'This isn't only another concert, it's a journey through music. It's a storytelling experience that reflects who we are as a people, where we come from and where we're going,' said Richard Ramudzuli, event manager at Thikho Events. 'We wanted to create something that celebrates our roots our culture, and our stories in a way that resonates deeply, specially on Youth Day weekend.' Ramudzuli said the carefully selected lineup reflects a rich tapestry of local voices and narratives. 'Sjava and Big Zulu are modern-day poets. They speak to the struggles and victories of ordinary people. Their lyrics carry the weight of lived experiences, wrapped in sounds that fuse tradition with innovation. 'The Soil brings a spiritual and soulful energy that touches the heart. Their harmonies uplift. Ntokozo Mkhize represents the new generation of storytellers, proving the future of South African music is in strong, talented hands.'
