All roads lead to Carnival City's Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni this Youth Day weekend for the Heavyweights Live Concert.
The concert on Saturday features a heavyweight lineup of music icons Sjava, Big Zulu, The Soil and Ntokozo Mkhize.
'This isn't only another concert, it's a journey through music. It's a storytelling experience that reflects who we are as a people, where we come from and where we're going,' said Richard Ramudzuli, event manager at Thikho Events.
'We wanted to create something that celebrates our roots our culture, and our stories in a way that resonates deeply, specially on Youth Day weekend.'
Ramudzuli said the carefully selected lineup reflects a rich tapestry of local voices and narratives.
'Sjava and Big Zulu are modern-day poets. They speak to the struggles and victories of ordinary people. Their lyrics carry the weight of lived experiences, wrapped in sounds that fuse tradition with innovation.
'The Soil brings a spiritual and soulful energy that touches the heart. Their harmonies uplift. Ntokozo Mkhize represents the new generation of storytellers, proving the future of South African music is in strong, talented hands.'

Carletonville church hosts vibrant Youth Day celebration

The Ebenezer Spiritual Church in Carletonville held a spirited Youth Day Celebration Service on Sunday, 15 June, bringing together children, youth, adults, and elders in a multigenerational event filled with inspiration, culture, and community unity. The programme was led by MC Ma Jange, who guided the audience through a lively service that began with scripture readings by Sister Ipeleng and Sister Reitumetse. Mama Lettie delivered a motivational talk, while Ntate David and Mme Charmaine moved the crowd with poems on the values and responsibilities of the youth. Mme Thuli also spoke, encouraging young people to embrace positivity and pursue digital skills for the future. The church proudly hosted its first official Youth Day event, with two ward councillors in attendance—Mrs Charmaine Kgateste and Mr Tlharipe—who came to support and witness the occasion. A special highlight was the appearance of local Hip Hop artists and Merafong Music Award winners, Vibration Taylor and Omphile Bigger, who joined the celebration as surprise guests and later entertained attendees with an energetic performance. The day concluded with a powerful youth-led drama depicting the historic Soweto Uprising, inspired by the classic film Sarafina. Young performers dressed in school uniforms danced and acted out the events, paying tribute to the youth of 1976 while celebrating the hope and potential of today's generation. The Ebenezer Spiritual Church expressed gratitude for the turnout and honoured all guests, artists, and speakers who helped make the Youth Day service a memorable success.
