News18 Poll: PM Modi's Stand On Security To Rahul Gandhi's ‘Surrender' Remark, Make Your Voice Heard

News18 polls closes on June 7, vote before 3 pm: Is 'Narendar Surrender' remark in good taste? Is the Congress showing respect to Armed forces? Tell us what you think
In the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, most opposition parties extended their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government. However, soon after India's Operation Sindoor – the retaliatory strikes on the terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) – the Congress began to target PM Narendra Modi.
In his several recent speeches, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi used the slogan 'Narender Surrender' to allege that PM Modi 'surrendered" after a call from US President Donald Trump during the recent India-Pakistan military conflict. Even as Trump on multiple occasions claimed that he had a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Centre has maintained that the Operation was paused on the request of Pakistan and no third party was involved in the process.
Gandhi's remarks, meanwhile, sparked a massive backlash, with the BJP accusing him of speaking Pakistan's language and insulting the Army.

In his first visit to J&K since the May 22 Pahalgam attack, the PM said Pakistan is against humanity and even the livelihood of the poor.

‘Diplomatic intervention': Pakistan nominates Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize; cites role in India-Pakistan crisis

Donakd Trump Pakistan has nominated US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize , crediting his "decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership" during the recent crisis between India and Pakistan. The announcement was made in a post on social media platform X, where Pakistani officials said Trump played a key role in defusing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The nomination follows comments made by Trump on Friday, in which he argued he deserved the prestigious award for multiple peace efforts, including his involvement in easing tensions between India and Pakistan. 'I should have gotten it four or five times,' the president said. 'They won't give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.' While the Indian government has rejected the idea that Trump played a role in the ceasefire, Trump insists he helped prevent a potential war. 'Well, I stopped a war... I love Pakistan. I think Modi is a fantastic man. I spoke to him last night. We're going to make a trade deal with Modi of India,' he told reporters earlier this week. 'But I stopped the war between Pakistan and India. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo This man was extremely influential in stopping it from the Pakistan side. Modi from the India side and others. They were going at it – and they're both nuclear countries. I got it stopped.' Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, has also secured a lunch meeting at the White House following his recommendation that US President Donald Trump be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2026. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly confirmed the meeting will take place but did not provide a date. This is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the past, loyal lawmakers and supporters have submitted his name for consideration. He has also repeatedly voiced frustration at being overlooked, referencing the 2009 win of former US President Barack Obama. Trump also announced on Truth Social that he had arranged a peace treaty between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. He said officials from both countries would travel to Washington on Monday to sign the agreement, although their joint statement listed the date as June 27. 'This is a Great Day for Africa and, quite frankly, a Great Day for the World!' Trump wrote. He also criticised the Nobel committee for not acknowledging his previous peace efforts in other regions. 'I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia. .. No, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do... but the people know, and that's all that matters to me!' The peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, reached during three days of negotiations in Washington, aims to end a decades-long conflict in eastern Congo. Trump has positioned himself as a global peacemaker, often highlighting his negotiation skills as a key approach to ending international conflicts. However, the wars in Gaza and Ukraine are ongoing, with no resolution reached more than five months into his presidency.

U.P. CM inaugurates 91.35 km long Gorakhpur Link Expressway

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday (June 20, 2025) inaugurated the Gorakhpur Link Expressway built at a cost of over ₹7,000 crore. Calling the inauguration in Azamgarh a game changer, Mr. Adityanath stressed that U.P. is no longer a 'BIMARU' State but is emerging as an 'Expressway State'. BIMARU is a term used in reference to a group of States, including U.P. and Madhya Pradesh, that were historically considered to be lagging in terms of social and economic development. The Chief Minister added that Azamgarh, which once faced an identity crisis, has now transformed into a stronghold of indomitable courage. The change witnessed in the region owing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance and the efforts of the 'double-engine government' has transformed Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Adityanath said. Inaugurating the 91.35 km long Gorakhpur Link Expressway built at a cost of ₹7,283 crore, Mr. Adityanath said the expressway will provide world-class connectivity not only to Azamgarh but also to adjoining districts of Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Gorakhpur. 'After 2017, U.P. focused on strengthening its infrastructure. Coming out of its BIMARU tag, the State is playing a key role as the growth engine of the nation,' he pointed out. 'Before 2017' Touching upon the condition of U.P. before 2017, Mr. Adityanath said the State lacked both a developmental agenda and basic amenities. 'Any scheme for the welfare of the people failed to reach their rightful beneficiaries. Traditional industries of U.P. were on the brink of extinction, and a criminal culture of 'One District, One Mafia' thrived under the previous governments,' the Chief Minister added. He said development projects started in previous regimes were marred by corruption and criminal interference, while in contrary the situation drastically changed under the BJP government in the State. 'However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a mafia-free, riot-free, and conducive environment for both tourism and investment,' Mr. Adityanath said. Highlighting the growth of expressways in U.P., the Chief Minister added that the State boasts of the 340 km Purvanchal Expressway, the 300 km Bundelkhand Expressway, and now the 91 km Gorakhpur Link Expressway that is operational, with work underway on six more expressways. 'These [expressways] will bring massive change in the development outlook of U.P.,' he said.

‘City of Destiny' all decked up for its tryst with history

Visakhapatnam: The (IDY) celebrations in Visakhapatnam on Saturday will span approximately 26 kilometres, starting from RK beach. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan will participate in the main event near the Kali Mata temple on the RK beachfront. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While around 3.5 lakh people are expected to join the RK beach gathering, citizen registrations for events planned across the state on Saturday have reached 2.39 crore, well above the 2 crore target. The 26-kilometre corridor has been divided into 326 compartments, each accommodating up to 1,000 participants. The yoga contigent for the RK beach stretch will include 1,438 trained yoga demonstrators and 907 certified instructors. According to officials, each compartment will be managed by a structured team to ensure efficient operations. A gazetted officer will lead each unit, supported by a yoga instructor and three demonstrators. Ten stewards will coordinate the crowd and support participants. Basic amenities will be overseen by a drinking water in-charge and a food team comprising one in-charge and two supervisors. Sanitation will be handled by four workers and a toilet manager. Each compartment will also include an auxiliary nursing midwife (ANM), one Asha worker, and four hamalis. For transportation of people from various districts in north coastal Andhra Pradesh for the event, 9,995 vehicles, including 3,200 fifty-seater buses and 4,095 forty-seater buses, have been organised. Furthermore, 2,500 autos and 200 maxi cabs form part of the diverse transit line-up to ensure last-mile connectivity. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now To support these transport arrangements, 75 dedicated parking locations have been identified in the city and its suburbs to manage vehicular flow. Naidu said arrangements are in place for 3.19 lakh individuals to perform yoga along the entire 26-kilometre stretch from RK beach. "To conduct this programme, 5,451 master trainers have come forward. Certificates have been issued to 1.05 crore individuals for their participation in various yoga activities during the month. We are planning to add yoga to the curriculum from class IX onwards and are considering weekly yoga sessions in schools. The proposal to establish a yoga deemed university is also under active consideration," he said. Training and event data reflect commendable performance. While master trainer enrolment reached 210% of the target (5,451 against 2,600), the trainer cadre achieved 115% (1.44 lakh against a target of 1.25 lakh). Training for the general public has reached 88% of the ambitious 2 crore goal. The thematic events have also been a big hit with the public. For example, tourist/iconic spot and theme-based yoga events reached 97% and 92% of their targets, respectively. Yoga competitions proved exceptionally successful, achieving 100% target realisation across all administrative tiers, from village to state. Participation in various competitions was particularly high at the grassroots level. About 6.37 lakh individuals at the village level and 1.16 lakh at the mandal level were part of the competitions, highlighting deep community engagement. The month-long 'Yogaandhra' campaign, leading up to International Day of Yoga, has served as a strategic initiative to boost tourism by showcasing lesser known yet culturally rich sites. By organising yoga events at historical temples, archaeological sites, beaches, and Buddhist heritage centres, the government has renewed public interest in many previously overlooked locations.
