At a function to honour toppers of SSLC and Plus Two held at a private hotel in Mahabalipuram, Vijay asked students to stay away from caste and religious divisive ideas. "Like narcotic substances, we should keep caste and religion away from us. It is good for all... Never allow the divisive ideas to disturb your mind," Vijay said.
"Are farmers cultivating based on caste and religion? Are labourers manufacturing products based on caste and religion? Does nature differentiate based on caste and religion?" Vijay asked.
Hitting out at the BJP govt, Vijay said, "In the recently held
exam, they tried to paint a caste colour on Periyar. We strongly condemn this."
Asking students not to get emotional on any issue, Vijay said that students should have a technical and scientific approach-based thinking as it is the only way to survive in the AI-dominated world. "The sky is vast and wide and you have strong winds. So, feel free to fly like a bird with courage, conviction, and confidence," Vijay said.
Asking students not to get stressed about NEET exams, Vijay said, "The world doesn't end with NEET. There are many things to achieve outside NEET. Keep your minds strong and democratic. Only if there is democracy, the world and all the fields in it will have freedom. If we have proper democracy, everyone will get everything."
Vijay asked students to ask their family members to exercise their democratic rights properly.

"Exercising the democratic rights means electing good, confidential, and non-corrupt people," Vijay said.
Recalling his message to students to avoid cash for votes in 2023, Vijay said, "I already asked the students two years ago not to encourage cash-for-votes culture and asked you to follow it. Next year, tonnes of cash will be poured for the election. All that money was swindled from you. What are you going to do? You know what to do. There is no need for me to tell you."

BJP's Nishikant Dubey slams Rahul Gandhi over language debate:

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nishikant Dubey slammed Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, questioning the motives of the Congress leader to encourage learning English rather than local languages while also alluding to the 'hypocrisy' of opposing the National Education Police (NEP) 2020 for language choice stating that the 1986 NEP had similar goals. 'Rahul Gandhi ji your investigative advisor is hell bent on destroying you, this is the education policy of 1986 given by your father to the country, in this, your father is promising the country to promote Hindi, teach Sanskrit language and translate English into regional languages. This same education policy is almost in place now. Students should also grow with regional languages, changes in this have been made by Prime Minister Modi ji in 2020,' Dubey said in a post on X in Hindi. He said that while countries such as Russia, China, France, Germany, Japan and, Arab countries were 'proud of their language,' the former Congress president is proud of English 'like slaves.' 'Russia, China, France, Germany, Arab countries, Japan, Korea all are proud of their language and it is developed, why are you proud of English like slaves, we are proud of Santhali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit,' Dubey's post read. Dubey shared screenshots purportedly of the 1986 NEP, which stated 'the policy emphasises the adoption of regional languages as the media of instruction at the university stage; vigorous effort at implementation of the three language- formula; improvement in the linguistic competencies of students at different stages of education; provision of facilities for the study of English and other foreign languages; development of Hindi as the link of Sanskrit at the university stage...' Dubey's post was made in response to another post by Rahul Gandhi where he supported people, especially people from marginalised backgrounds, learning English. He said that learning the language could be a stepping stone to equality, more job opportunities, which is what the BJP-RSS does not want. 'It is not an English dam, it is a bridge. English is not shame, it is power. English is not a chain - it is a tool to break the chains. BJP-RSS don't want poor kids of India to learn English - because they don't want you to ask questions, move ahead, and become equal,' the Congress leader said in a post on X. While also highlighting that every language is useful and beautiful for its culture, knowledge, and soul, the party leader added, 'In today's world, English is as important as your mother tongue - because it will provide employment and boost your confidence. Every language of India has soul, culture, knowledge. We have to cherish them - and at the same time teach English to every child. This is the path to an India that competes with the world, that gives every child an equal opportunity.' The Congress leader's remarks were in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks, where he said that the languages of India are 'ornaments of our culture,' and to understand the land's history, dharma cannot be done in foreign languages. The remarks by Shah was heavily objected to by multiple people, including by Tamil Nadu Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. (ANI)

BJP's double-engine government has proved a double-betrayal for people of Odisha: BJD

BHUBANESWAR: The BJD on Saturday accused the BJP government in the state of betraying the mandate of the people as all the promises made by the saffron party before election have turned to be lies. Addressing a press conference at Shankha Bhawan, three senior leaders - former ministers Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and Snehangini Chhuria, and general secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra alleged that the 'double engine' government has delivered 'double betrayal' to the people in the first year. 'The BJP government is claiming credit for opening four gates of Srimandir and opening of Ratna Bhandar. But why is it shying away from making the Justice Raghubir Das report on the missing key of Ratna Bhandar public? This exposes BJP's double standards,' Das Burma said. Furthermore, the re-inventorisation of the jewellery and other valuables of Ratna Bhandar has still not been completed. The redevelopment work of Srimandir has come to a standstill. The government is even unable to form a new temple management committee, he added. Claiming that Odisha received 18.9 per cent less central grants in 2024-25 compared to the previous fiscal, the former minister said this exposed the hollowness of 'double-engine, double-development' claims. On the Subhadra Yojana, Chhuria said they initially promised to provide Rs 50,000 to every woman in the state within two years. But, the amount is being distributed in two installments of Rs 5,000 each every year which comes down to just Rs 27 per day. This is an insult to women's dignity, she said. Criticising the Odisha Vision Document, Baxipatra said the document released by Modi sets a target of a 9 per cent GDP growth rate for Odisha while other states are aiming at achieving 15 per cent. He said the Naveen Patnaik government had already achieved 16 pc growth rate.
