Barnama29-04-2025

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has unveiled its 2025 inductees, celebrating a vibrant and eclectic mix of artists and contributors who have helped shape the sound and spirit of rock & roll.
The announcement was made live by Ryan Seacrest during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame episode of 'American Idol', where the Top 14 finalists performed songs by past inductees as America voted for the Top 12.
'Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever. Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps,' said Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Chairman, John Sykes in a statement.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recognises artists and contributors across several distinct categories. The Performer category honours those whose original music and cultural influence have played a defining role in shaping the direction of rock & roll.
The Musical Influence Award is given to artists whose style and innovation have deeply inspired the genre and its evolution, while the Musical Excellence Award celebrates individuals—whether artists, musicians, songwriters, or producers—whose creativity and legacy have significantly impacted the music industry.
Lastly, the Ahmet Ertegun Award acknowledges non-performing professionals whose work behind the scenes has been instrumental in the growth and artistic development of rock & roll and its wider cultural resonance.
This year's Performer Category features a wide-ranging lineup, including Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes. These artists represent a blend of genres and eras, many of whom are first-time nominees.
In other categories, Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence Award, while Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye will be honoured with the Musical Excellence Award. The Ahmet Ertegun Award will be presented to Lenny Waronker for his role in shaping the creative direction of popular music.
To be eligible for induction, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Held at the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, the event recreated countryside-style celebrations for locals and visitors. Festivities began at around 6:30 pm local time with the raising of a maypole adorned with ribbons and greenery, a symbol of fertility and renewal. Throughout the evening, the crowd enjoy folk dancing, wreath-making, stilt walking, Finnish delicacies, and local crafts. bootstrap slideshow At dusk, several ceremonial bonfires were lit along the shore. Music and laughter continue late into the night. "Juhannus is about light, nature, and togetherness," said festivalgoer Miikka Heikinen. "It's the heart of the Finnish summer." Midsummer, officially observed on the Saturday between June 20 and 26, marks the longest day of the year. In northern Finland, the sun barely sets, while the south experiences only brief twilight. The Seurasaari Midsummer celebration dates back over a century and has been organised annually since 1956. Beyond Seurasaari, Helsinki offers additional Juhannus events, from nostalgic dance nights to scenic ferry rides and traditional saunas. Yet for many, the holiday is best spent at lakeside cottages, savoring nature and the glow of the midnight sun. --BERNAMA-XINHUA

Lawsuit issue: Fazura leaves it to her lawyers

Published on: Saturday, June 21, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 21, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly two months have passed since allegations emerged that the company owned by popular actress and entrepreneur Nur Fazura Sharifuddin ( pic ) failed to settle a RM4.65 million debt owed to a headscarf manufacturing factory. Despite being repeatedly pressed by the claimant as well as by netizens on social media to address the issue, the celebrity has remained silent, going about her daily life, including promoting her headscarves on social media. Speaking to reporters at a press conference after launching the music video of her latest single 'Luar Biasa' here last night, Fazura, 41, said the lawsuit against her company is a confidential matter and has been handed over to her lawyers for further action. Fazura, who is also a singer and television host, said she preferred not to comment further as it involves two separate entities. "Honestly, there's nothing I can explain because we have to understand that I, Fazura, and the company are two different entities. I can't comment on company matters as that is beyond my scope as an individual. The company is the company, and Fazura is me personally, that's the distinction. "So really, I can't say much about the company or whatever is going on. I've left all my company-related matters to my lawyers to take action," she said. Fazura made these remarks when asked by reporters to comment on the RM4.65 million lawsuit filed by a headscarf supplier against her company Pink Fate Sdn Bhd. Advertisement Admitting that she is affected by the controversy, the 'Pisau Cukur' star said such issues are among the challenges any entrepreneur must face. "What haven't I gone through in the past eight months? Of course, I've been affected. I'm not someone without feelings but as an entrepreneur, I understand this is normal. I don't think it's necessary to explain, because outsiders may not understand and could twist the facts," she said. "I know the business I'm running isn't a small one and I'm confident all entrepreneurs out there will understand the challenges that come with being in the business world," she added. According to media reports early last month, headscarf manufacturer Obor Holding Sdn Bhd is taking legal action against Pink Fate for allegedly owing the company RM4.65 million. Obor Holding claimed that Pink Fate had only paid RM2.68 million out of the total RM7.3 million value of headscarves supplied since June 2022. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? ROUND 2025 Showcases Unity Through Cultural Exchange

GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN-Korea Music Festival (ROUND) 2025 was officially launched here this evening by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, in a vibrant ceremony celebrating unity through music and cultural exchange. The event brought together diplomats, cultural leaders, artists and guests from ASEAN member states and the Republic of Korea, marking a significant milestone in regional cooperation. Khairul Firdaus highlighted the festival's theme, 'Come Around, Here to Shine', as a reflection of Malaysia's commitment to fostering a new model of cultural diplomacy under its ASEAN Chairmanship this year. 'Through the ASEAN-Korea Music Festival, we reaffirm the importance of cultural exchange as a conduit for social cohesion, deepening our mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds between the people of ASEAN and the Republic of Korea,' he said in a statement today. He added that Malaysia continues to prioritise creative and cultural cooperation as a vital tool for people-to-people connectivity and regional development, in line with the spirit of Malaysia MADANI – an inclusive framework promoting sustainability, compassion and mutual respect. The two-day festival, jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), features performances by acclaimed artists from both ASEAN and Korea. Meanwhile, Republic of Korea Ambassador to Malaysia Yeo Seung-bae, said the festival comes at an opportune time as Korea hosts APEC and Malaysia chairs ASEAN in 2025. 'Korea's hosting of APEC and Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship this year offer a timely and valuable opportunity to elevate our cooperation to the next level. 'Building on this shared vision at the leadership level, our two countries are set to pursue a broad range of collaborative initiatives with cultural exchange taking centre stage,' he said.
