2025 College Football Playoff Odds: Which Teams Have Best Odds in New Format?
The 2025-26 College Football season kicks off in a little more than two months. Like last year, the College Football Playoff will feature a 12-team format.
Seeds No. 1 through 4 will earn first-round byes, while Nos. 5 through 12 play each other in that first round.
However, in 2025, the top four seeds in the 12-team field will be the top-four ranked teams instead of the four highest-ranked conference championship game winners.
So with 12 spots up for grabs, bettors are diving into the odds for which teams they think will secure a berth and which ones will be on the outside looking in.
Remember, this market is all about who gets in — not who wins it all.

Last season, the 12 teams that made the Playoff were Oregon, Georgia, Boise State, Arizona State, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Indiana, SMU and Clemson.
And as the committee moves forward in 2025 with changes regarding how it seeds, FOX Sports Lead College Football Analyst Joel Klatt noted that the "wonky" process needed to improve.
"Boise State and Arizona State got first-round byes. Oregon, the only undefeated team entering the CFP, got a bum draw and had to play Ohio State in the quarterfinals," Klatt wrote.
"That model wasn't great and penalized the top-seeded team rather than rewarding them. We want to avoid that."
And for bettors looking for expert analysis on which teams will finish in the top 10 next season, Klatt's way-too-early projection includes Michigan, LSU, Miami Hurricanes, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas and Penn State.

Top 2026 recruits Joey O'Brien and Khary Adams seem to be enjoying their Notre Dame visits
It's a big weekend for Notre Dame football recruiting, as they welcomed in multiple official visitors. Two of them, Pennsylvania safety Joey O'Brien and Maryland cornerback Khary Adams have mentioned about playing with each other, and along with the Irish, they each are also considering Oregon and Penn State among other schools. Both of them are on campus this weekend, and it very much looks like they are enjoying their time in South Bend. Advertisement On social media multiple photo's and videos were shared, as O'Brien and Adams posed while donning the mostly Green and Gold in a shot shared by the Pennsylvania star. Adams then responded asking what he was thinking about doing. That wasn't the only thing going around, as O'Brien was also seen in a mostly Gold room holding a Notre Dame guitar (see below). Adams is ranked by 247Sports at the nations No. 75 overall player, while O'Brien is their No. 65 national prospect. The safety has scheduled a commitment date for June 20th, while the cornerback still has yet to give a timeline for his decision. Regardless of when they will each commit, the Notre Dame is pulling out all the stops to show them that they could be successful both on and off the field by joining the program. Notre Dame football 2026 recruiting class commitment tracker
(This story has been updated to add new information.) Notre Dame football is once again putting together an impressive recruiting class, as currently there are eighteen verbals. It is a great collection of players, one that should continue the recent success that Notre Dame has had on and off the field. Head coach Marcus Freeman has done a fantastic job elevating the Irish in the eyes of prospects, and it has paid off big dividends. Advertisement Part of the success that Notre Dame has seen in the 2026 cycle has to do with its impressive run in the College Football Playoff, but a lot of credit has to go to the coaching staff as well, starting with Freeman. Find out below every Notre Dame 2026 football commit along with a quick bio of each one of them. (Note: All recruiting rankings are according to the 247Sports Composite and are updated every time the Irish class grows.) Wide receiver Dylan Faison The first commitment of the class, it always seemed like Faison would join his brother Jordan in South Bend. He hasn't wavered on his commitment despite new offers like Miami. Faison also intends on playing lacrosse for the Irish. Advertisement Commitment date: March 18th, 2024 Measurable's: 5-foot, 11-inches and 170-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 766, position No. 114 Quarterback Noah Grubbs The Florida quarterback knew early on that Notre Dame was the place for him, and didn't need to wait out the process. Grubbs has been a leader in recruiting others in the class, and while he might have to wait a bit to be the starter, he's got the potential to be a very good one. Commitment date: June 1st, 2024 Measurable's: 6-foot, 4-inches and 205-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 174, position No. 11 Linebacker Thomas Davis Jr. Davis' father is a Georgia alumni, but that won't matter much in his recruitment. While the Bulldogs came after him late, the Irish will hold onto his recruitment. This is a big win for Notre Dame. The versatility separates him, and his size will allow the Irish coaching staff to have options where to play him. He made the choice to join Notre Dame's class early, and hasn't had a second thought. Like Garvin, Nichols could end up playing on the outside or interior, and should be a difference maker. Commitment date: Dec. 24th, 2024 Measurable's: 6-foot, 5-inches and 315-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 227, position No. 16 Offensive lineman Tyler Merrill If you are noticing a trend with this year's offensive line class, you are doing a great job. All of them can play multiple positions, as Merrill can play guard or tackle. My guess is that he'll start on the inside, but can play right tackle if needed. One of the best edge rushers in the country, he's exactly what teams are looking for in the position. Notre Dame could have another true freshman playing early on the defensive line. Commitment date: April 5th, 2025 Measurable's: 6-foot, 4-inches and 221-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 134, position No. 17 Edge rusher Rodney Dunham Almost the exact size as his future teammate Ewetade, Dunham comes into the program with a bit more hype. He's a national prospect that should be playing early next fall. Dunham is an elite player. Notre Dame has done a great job accumulating talent on the offensive line, but we have seen true freshman crack the lineup in the recent years. Commitment date: April 13th, 2025 Measurable's: 6-foot 5-inches and 275-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 179, position No. 15 Wide receiver Bubba Frazier Frazier is a player that is perfect for a slot receiver spot, shifty with sure hands and a great route runner. Coming from Georgia, you know that he's playing against some of the best high school competition every week, so there shouldn't be that big of an adjustment at the next level for him. Both his brothers played at Florida, but he chose his own path. He has the chance to be the best of the bunch, and this was a big recruiting win for Notre Dame. Commitment date: April 26th, 2025 Measurable's: 6-foot, 3-inches and 160-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 145, position No. 12 Linebacker Jakobe Clapper Ohio has become a focus state for Notre Dame and they won out on Clapper. He chose the Irish over multiple Big Ten and SEC offers, and could be the next impressive linebacker in South Bend. Advertisement Commitment date: May 2nd, 2025 Measurable's: 6-foot, 2-inches and 215-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 407, position No. 27 Running back Javian Osborne Notre Dame got one of the elite running backs in the country with Osborne's commitment. He's more of a bruiser, but has the ability to break big runs as well. Osborne has the potentiall to play early for the Irish. Commitment date: May 3rd, 2025 Measurable's: 5-foot, 10-inches and 200-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 90, position No. 6 Defensive tackle Tiki Hola A true defensive tackle, Hola doesn't just clog up the middle, he makes plays. The Irish beat out USC for his commitment, which makes it even sweeter. Hola may need some time to get accustomed to the college game, but when he does, watch out. Advertisement Commitment date: May 10th, 2025 Measurable's: 6-foot, 2-inches and 285-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 328, position No. 39 Running back Jonaz Walton The second back of the cycle, Walton also enters the program with some significant hype. He has the speed to break off big runs, and the power to fight for tough yards. Walton is also a very good receiving threat, and could make an impact anytime the ball is in his hands. Commitment date: May 14th, 2025 Measurable's: 5-foot, 10-inches and 205-pounds Recruiting ranking: Nationally No. 125, position No. 10 Offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh The final piece of the offensive line puzzle for Notre Dame was McKeogh, who gives them a top-level option at left tackle. While he's not ranked as highly as some of his soon-to-be teammates, McKeogh has an extremely high ceiling and should make a big impact for the Irish. South Bend will be his new home, as the East coast pipeline continues for the Irish. Adams has the potential to be the next elite corner for Notre Dame, and it wouldn't surprise me for him to be an early-entry NFL prospect. Notre Dame added its second 2026 recruit of the day as safety Joey O'Brien committed
It has been a huge week for Notre Dame football recruiting, as they added offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh, cornerback Khary Adams and now safety Joey O'Brien to its 2026 class. The Irish beat out Clemson, Oregon, and Penn State for the O'Brien's verbal, putting the class at No. 19 players. The addition of the 6-foot, 3-inch and 185-pounder continues Notre Dame's hot streak, one that got started last weekend with each one of this week's commitments making their official visits. Advertisement The future for the Irish secondary is extremely bright, as O'Brien, Adams, and safety Ayden Pouncey are all considered some of the best players in the country. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Notre Dame was able to land each one of these prospects, as they've recently sent multiple defensive backs to the NFL. This could very well end up being head coach Marcus Freeman's best effort on the recruiting trail, as there is still room to add more than a few top players, along with already having one of the country's best collection of commitments. This class should be another piece of the puzzle to keep Notre Dame among the top teams in all of college football.
