Season 3 picks up right after Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) won the Opera War in Season 2, snagging the Duke of Buckingham for her Metropolitan Opera opening. The show's all about the 1880s, a time when money and status ruled New York, but nobody got to the top without some serious sacrifices. Bertha's chasing an even bigger win to cement her family's spot in high society, while her husband, George (Morgan Spector), is betting it all on a wild plan to build a railroad from Chicago to Los Angeles. He's out in Arizona trying to buy mines in Morenci, but the local miners aren't making it easy, and it could cost him big.
Over at the van Rhijn house, things are tense. Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) is not thrilled that her sister Ada Forte (Cynthia Nixon) is calling the shots now, thanks to a surprise inheritance. Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) are sneaking around, falling for each other behind everyone's backs. Meanwhile, Peggy Scott (Denée Benton) is catching feelings for Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica), but his snooty family isn't exactly rolling out the welcome mat for a Black journalist. The season's got some heavy stuff too, like divorce—super scandalous back then. Aurora Fane's husband, Charles, wants out of their marriage, and there's talk it might be because he's hiding who he really is. The season kicks off far from New York's fancy ballrooms, in dusty Morenci, Arizona. George is trying to lock down those mines for his railroad dream, but the miners want a union, and he's not having it. Back home, the van Rhijn house is a mess. Ada's leaning into the temperance movement after losing her husband, Luke, and Agnes is grumpy about playing second fiddle. Peggy gets sick with pneumonia, and a racist doctor refuses to help her, which hits hard and forces her family to step in.
At the Russells', Bertha's pushing Gladys to marry the Duke of Buckingham (Ben Lamb), but Gladys is sneaking off with Billy Carlton (Matt Walker) instead. When Bertha finds out, it's fireworks. Marian and Larry are keeping their romance quiet, but it's getting serious. Larry also ditches his business partner Jack on a clock project, which stirs up trouble. The episode sets up a season that's not afraid to get gritty while still delivering the glitz.

My dad has a wave to his head. So, I have tight curls. And also, I understand that, Ginny's hair from seasons one, two, and three is very, very different. So let me just explain..." "Season one, that is my natural hair. It's my natural hair. Season was a little bit of a challenge for some people to work with my hair. So, you know, it was mostly my hair, but we had a little bit of heat damage in there. It randomly got bleached for no reason — and four inches got cut off." (Here is her hair in season one.) "So, when we went into season two, I was like, 'Hey, my hair got pretty damaged in season one. Can I get a wig?' And they were like, 'All right, bet. We'll give you a wig.' "So for like, half of season two, I'm in this wig that doesn't really match my actual hair, it has no movement. And so we stopped using the wig, but in order for us to have it, it was like a continuity thing. They took a wand to my hair and curled each and every section of my hair to match the curl pattern of the wig. So my hair was put through heat every single day to match the pattern of the wig, which we ended up not even using the entire time because it didn't look right. So that's why there's some interesting hair choices for Ginny in season two." ESPN's Jay Harris shares major health update after prostate cancer reveal
'SportsCenter' anchor Jay Harris said he is recovering from a successful surgery to remove his prostate after revealing his cancer diagnosis earlier this month. In a social media video posted Monday, the 60-year-old ESPN stalwart explained his prostate cancer did not spread and that he's doing well while recovering at home. 'My doctor said the surgery went really well,' Harris said. 'So well, in fact, that the cancer that was in my prostate stayed there. It didn't spread to any surrounding areas. So when he took the prostate out, he took that with it. So it's all good. Harris added he'll be resting at home and will return to work next month. 'There are other details that I won't bore you with, but the main thing is, we're all good. All right, I confess; I didn't keep up religiously with Season 2 of The Gilded Age—maybe because I was getting my Cynthia Nixon fix from And Just Like That… and my Carrie Coon fix from The White Lotus (and my Christine Baranski fix from obsessively rewatching Mamma Mia!, but I digress). Now, though, the HBO show is back for its third season, and I am absolutely locked in, even if I'm having a little trouble remembering some of the characters' names and/or general deals. Let's dive in, shall we? Horse-drawn carriages! Mr. Russell's beard is so on-point. Ah, the picturesque majesty of snow in New York, before it turns to slush and gets completely disgusting. Would be nice right about now! 'We've had some changes.' I'll say! Time for Cynthia Nixon's temperance meeting! Yes, Christine Baranski! Call it 'absurd'! Get her ass! Christine and Cynthia are really showcasing the range of bangs types here (straight vs. curly). Oh, hell yeah, 'Mr. Sargent' is coming by to paint! This is like when they casually reference Picasso in Titanic. Taissa Farmiga's little fur capelet is fabulous. No offense, The Gilded Age props/set design team, but this snow looks fake as hell. 'In this house, nothing is accepted that isn't proposed by Mrs. Russell.' Tea. These boots Adelheid is lacing are sort of…gorgeous? Man, talk about laying down the law. 'In America, you don't have to live like your parents lived.' In theory, sure. Never has a man looked so sad in a bowler hat. Oh no, Denée definitely isn't feeling better! Was consumption still a thing during this time period? Man, I really should have studied for, like, any of my history classes throughout my 16 years of education. Jesus, the doctor's too racist to treat Denée? Even with all of these women's money? 'What I feel for Billy is real.' Sure. 'I'm not a girl! Not anymore! When will you see that?'
