Frimpong ready to fill Alexander-Arnold's 'big shoes' at Liverpool

June 23 (Reuters) - Trent Alexander-Arnold left "big shoes" to fill after leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid last month but new signing Jeremie Frimpong has no doubt he has the ability to replace the England international in the Premier League champions' defence. Frimpong's arrival from Bayer Leverkusen was announced hours after Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, with the Dutch international becoming Arne Slot's first signing since winning the English top flight. "Liverpool. It's a big club, so it's big shoes regardless," Frimpong told Sky Sports in an interview published on Sunday, when asked if he would compete with Conor Bradley to succeed Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool's first choice for right back. "It's a winning team ... they win trophies for a reason. If you play for a team like Liverpool you have to fill in the shoes and perform. "I've always believed in myself. I'm a winner. That's what I'm going to bring to the team." Amsterdam-born Frimpong, who can also play as a winger, spent nine years at Manchester City as a youth player before making his senior debut in 2019 at Celtic, who won the Scottish Premiership in his first season. The 24-year-old joined Leverkusen in 2021 and made 34 appearances as they won the Bundesliga in 2023-24. "The Premier League is the best league in the world. I grew up in Manchester so I always wanted to come back. It was always the plan," Frimpong said. "I know what being a champion is like at Bayer Leverkusen, so joining a champion team is a privilege ... to go from watching (Liverpool) to playing for them is crazy. "The manager has told me how I can help the team and he really likes me as a player. It's given me extra motivation and belief."

Transfer updates as Arsenal face Sesko U-turn while Liverpool agree deal

We're a week into the second transfer window of the summer and already the British transfer record has been broken. Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal which could end up costing them £116m. And the Reds' business is not over. Arne Slot's side have reached an agreement for a £40m deal to sign Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, who is set for a medical this week. And the Reds are also keen on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, but they have Arsenal for company. While Jarell Quansah could depart the club. The Gunners are pushing for Benjamin Sesko as they eye a new frontman, but the RB Leipzig star's demands could still scupper the deal. Perhaps a move for Viktor Gyokeres is not yet off the table however. Confirmation of Martin Zubimendi's transfer may not happen until next month. Manchester United are also in the market for a forward having already added Matheus Cunha. But exits will equally be on Ruben Amorim's mind. United have yet to part ways with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony or Alejandro Garnacho. And the club may need the financial boost with significant prices quoted for the likes of Gyokeres and Bryan Mbeumo. Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have to an agreement over their third deal of the summer with Jarell Quansah set to exit Anfield. Reports claim a £35m deal has been agreed with the Reds including a buy-back clause in the transfer. Quansah is set to commit to a five-year contract. Jadon Sancho has yet to find an exit from Manchester United but is said to be willing to move to Italy. One route out of the club may be dependent on another deal failing first however. Repoorts in Italy suggest that a move from Juventus for 25-year-old depends on whether they sign Francisco Conceicao from Porto. It's not all going smoothly for Arsenal as they attempt to finally sign a new forward. Arsenal are said to be growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko's wage demands as they look to wrap up a deal for a new striker this summer. And while the club are ready to pay £70m for the RB Leipzig star, talks with Sesko's camp over his wages are not going smoothly. Thanks for joining us for another day of transfer news. We're a week into the second window and there's plenty more still to happen before the Premier League restarts.

Alejandro Garnacho leaves Man Utd fans fuming with Marcus Rashford gesture

Alejandro Garnacho is one of a number of Mancheser United stars up for sale this summer after being told to find a new club by Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim earlier this year Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has prompted the ire of the club's supporters by wearing another Premier League side's shirt. The winger posted a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa top with 'Rashford' on the back. Both Garnacho and Marcus Rashford are expected to leave Manchester this summer, and neither is part of Ruben Amorim's plans at Old Trafford. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park after being left out of numerous United squads. ‌ And Argentina international Garnacho was told to find a new club at the end of the season after venting his frustration at not starting in the Europa League final. The 20-year-old was left out of United's final Premier League matchday squad. ‌ The young star was the subject of interest in January as Napoli had a bid in the region of £40million turned down. An asking price of £70m was initially touted for Garnacho but it has since been suggested that figure could be slashed to facilitate a move. And Garnacho's social media activity appears to have signalled some camaraderie with Rashford, to the dismay of some United fans. Sharing photographs from his holiday to Ibiza, one included a picture of him wearing Marcus Rashford's Aston Villa shirt. Rashford responded to the post with the words 'My brother' and a heart emoji. Others of a United persuasion were less kind, however. "To wear another Premier club's top is madness and proves you clearly are not mentally ready for the next level," wrote one fan. "You've lost the respect of majority of United fans especially those that have backed you," added another. "Garnacho just keeps proving why he must leave," remarked a supporter. "His ego is ridiculous for somebody with his ability." ‌ "There's a line and you just crossed it," said another. "See ya later Garnacho, clear off and find yourself another club," said a further fan. An additional supporter suggested the image was an intentional move. "Garnacho knows exactly what he's doing wearing that jersey.. weirdo," they said. Both players could soon find themselves returning to United however. Rashford is said to be ready to return for pre-season training if a transfer away does not materialise. Nobody is currently in serious talks to sign the 27-year-old and Rashford is 'preparing' for such an eventuality with United's stars due back for tests and training next month. Despite interest from a host of Europe's elite, such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Juventus, United are believed to have not received any formal offers for the forward.
