Wisconsin, Notre Dame to play football on a Sunday in 2026 at Lambeau Field

May 21 (UPI) -- Wisconsin will host Notre Dame in a Shamrock Series football meeting Sept. 6, 2026, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the schools announced Wednesday.
The matchup was previously planned for Oct. 3, 2020, but postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sept. 6 meeting will air on NBC and Peacock and take place a week before the start of the 2025 NFL season.
Wisconsin beat LSU 16-14 in 2016 in the last college football matchup to be held at Lambeau Field. The 2026 game will mark Notre Dame's first appearance at the stadium, which is named after Packers founder and former Notre Dame halfback Curly Lambeau.
Notre Dame beat Wisconsin 41-13 in 2021 at Soldier Field in Chicago in the first installment of their two-game series.
The Fighting Irish will take on the University of Miami Hurricanes in their 2025 season opener Aug. 31 in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Badgers will host the Miami University RedHawks on Aug. 28 in Madison.

Three-time Cup champion Jonathan Toews returning to NHL with hometown Winnipeg Jets
WINNIPEG — Three-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews is returning to the NHL and signing with his hometown Winnipeg Jets. The Jets announced on Friday that they've agreed to a one-year contract with Toews. The value of his deal, which can officially be signed when NHL free agency opens July 1, was not revealed. Advertisement 'I'm grateful to be making my return to the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets,' Toews said in a statement. 'It's very special to come home and play in front of my family and friends in Manitoba. 'The Jets have been on the rise over the last few seasons, and I'm eager to join the group and help however I can.' Toews missed the past two NHL seasons after stepping away from hockey, citing the effects of Chronic Immune Response Syndrome and long COVID. The health complications also forced him to miss the entire 2020-21 campaign. Toews revealed on social media in November that he travelled to India and underwent Ayurvedic detox Panchakarma, a traditional therapy that uses massage, herbs and diet to cleanse the body, after 'almost five years of searching for a way to heal the inflammatory and immune system issues that took me out of hockey.' Advertisement The longtime Chicago Blackhawks captain helped lead the franchise to Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2010. He also claimed Olympic gold with Canada in 2010 and 2014. The Jets posted to social media a picture of a young Toews wearing a Winnipeg Jets jacket and a Manitoba Moose hat, and the caption 'Meant to be.' The franchise also shared a photo of the Jonathan Toews Sportsplex sign in Winnipeg, with a message board underneath reading, "HE'S HOME." 'We are excited to add a proven winner like Jonathan Toews to the Winnipeg Jets,' Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said. 'It will be a unique opportunity for Jonathan to play for his hometown team. His talent, drive, and experience will be a great complement to our club. We will withhold further comment until July 1.' Advertisement Toews, who the Blackhawks selected third overall in 2006 and named captain at just 20, has 372 goals and 511 assists in 1,067 career NHL regular-season games, all with Chicago. He also tallied 45 goals and 74 assists in 137 playoff games. The Blackhawks released a statement to "congratulate Jonathan Toews and welcome him back to the NHL." "The work he's done over the past two years to make his return is a testament to his resiliency and determination — the same qualities that our fans fell in love with and continue to define him as a player," the statement read. The 37-year-old centre won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward in 2013 and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2015. Winnipeg, however, hasn't advanced past the second round of the playoffs since 2018. The Jets fell in six games in their second-round series against the Dallas Stars this past spring. Toews will add depth down the middle alongside Mark Scheifele, captain Adam Lowry and Vladislav Namestnikov. Lowry is expected to miss the start of next season after undergoing hip surgery in May. Notre Dame hosts commit Rodney Dunham and several key prospects
Notre Dame's campus is bustling today, at least when it comes to visiting football recruits. Five-star Fighting Irish commit Rodney Dunham, an edge rusher, led the way off the bus in South Bend. He was followed by wide receiver Bubba Frazier, edge rusher Ebenezer Ewetade, linebacker Kobe Clapper, offensive tackle Charlie Thom and defensive lineman Elijah Golden. Advertisement Notre Dame has been garnering praise for its recruiting classes, and while there's no guarantee any of these players commit to the Irish -- or if any of them will pan out in terms of production, should they sign -- it's clear that head coach Marcus Freeman knows that he and his staff will have to work hard to get back to, and beyond, the level reached in 2024. Recruiting is never-ending, and it's a good sign that the Irish are hosting so many touted prospects.
