Emily Atack's £2k BAFTAs dress was Rivals-inspired and we found a £55 version

Emily Atack gave a nod to her role in Rivals at the BAFTAs with her 80s-inspired white maxi dress and leather gloves – and we've tracked down a £55 version on sale
When Jilly Cooper's book Rivals was turned into a series last year, it was an instant hit, with Emily Atack becoming a stand out star for her role as Sarah Stratton. With her opening scene up for a BAFTA nomination at this year's awards ceremony, it was only right that the actress gave a nod to her role in the series with an 80s-inspired look.
Emily wore a floor length white gown that looks to be Alex Perry's Asymmetric Draped Crêpe Gown, which costs £2135 (though you can currently save 10% on it with the code FIRST10), which she paired with some elbow length black leather gloves – the perfect nod to the 80s. For fans coveting Emily's look but want something a little more budget-friendly, we found the perfect alternative thanks to Karen Millen's Premium Viscose Jersey Ruched Maxi Dress.
Usually priced at £169, the Karen Millen dress currently has a huge 60% discount, knocking the price down to £68. Plus, you can get an extra 20% off using the code SALE20, taking it down to £54.40 – not too shabby for a red carpet-worthy look.
Just like Emily's designer gown, the Karen Millen Ruched Maxi Dress has a figure-hugging silhouette, with long sleeves and a high neck. It also features flattering ruching and draping around the waist, with a detachable white and silver belt. By simply removing the belt, you'll get a very similar streamlined look to Emily's gown, with the draping mirroring that gathered details of her Alex Perry dress.
It's currently still available in sizes XS to large, and you can also pick it up in black if you prefer a darker colour. It does differ from Emily's in some ways – it's made of jersey, rather than crepe, and has a more wearable ankle length cut rather than a floor length one, which makes it easier to move around in.
If you prefer a floor-length fit, this Rat & Boa Rodeo Dress is £295 and is a true maxi length, with the hemline gently pooling on the floor in an elegant drape. The design is more simple, though, with less draping and no thigh split, but it does have a similar neckline to Emily's with a more rounded boat-style neck.
It also has a very dramatic draped cowl back, that bares some skin to balance the full length and long sleeve design. Club L's Victoria White Long-Sleeve Maxi Dress With Wrap Skirt, £75, also has a similar look to Emily's gown, with a wrap design and dramatic thigh split, and comes in white, black and olive green.
The pièce de résistance of Emily's look is, of course, her leather gloves, and we've even managed to track down an affordable version of these if you want to go all out replicating her outfit. The QECEPEI Women's Long Leather Gloves are currently on sale down from £36.99 to £32.99 and are made from genuine lambskin leather with a soft velvet lining that makes them comfortable to wear. They even have a touch screen feature, so you can use your smart phone whilst wearing them.
With the second season of Rivals beginning filming this month it won't be too much longer to wait until it's back on our screens – so you better get your 80s-inspired outfits sorted now.

Former Love Island winner Jess Harding hits out at 'b**chy' 2025 contestant

Jess Harding, who won ITV's Love Island back in 2023, has shared her thoughts on current contestant Antonia 'Toni' Laites - who has been causing drama in the villa Former Love Island winner Jess Harding has lashed out at one of the current contestants in a scathing social media post. The 2025 season of ITV's long-running reality dating show began earlier this month and 16 contestants are currently housed in the villa. But tensions have been bubbling between some of the contestants and 24-year-olds Antonia 'Toni' Laites and Emily Moran have clashed while taking part in the show. Viewers were startled to see Toni accuse Emily of sticking her nose in her business during a fiery exchange that aired on Friday night. ‌ Jess, 24 - who won Love Island in 2023 alongside then-boyfriend Sammy Root, 24 - was among those watching at home to take to social media to dissect the unsettling scenes. The reality star shared her shock at Toni's outburst against Emily. ‌ Siding with the British star, Jess accused American bombshell Toni of being "b**chy". In a message shared via Instagram stories, the star wrote: "Ok what the hell, just because someone isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean you can cause a big drama over it?!" Jess continued: "Toni girl I loved you but I don't like b****y behaviour & pulling crying behaviour." And she added: "Why can't the girls be 1 big group cos these men be acting CRAZY." On Friday night, fans saw tension escalate between Toni and Emily as the 2025 season endured one of its most dramatic arguments so far. Friction came to a head after the two ladies took a near instant dislike to each other after Emily entered the villa as a bombshell on day five. Toni's feather's were ruffled when she overheard a conversation between Emily and Irish contestant Conor Phillips, 25. The American bombshell then found a confidant in Shakira Khan, 22, who she shared her frustrations with. But Emily later accused Toni of talking behind her back, while fellow Islander Megan 'Meg' Moore, 25, warned Emily that Toni had branded her "nosey" and "Little Miss Sunshine." ‌ An almighty row erupted, with Emily despairing that Toni was "just trying to cause a problem," and "she's f****g nuts." All the drama could be helping generate interest in the long-running show, however. While the 2025 season got off to a low viewership start when it launched on 9 June, the audience then reportedly grew by 1.7 million streams on ITVX after the first episode aired. ‌ Some past contestants have started campaigning for the series to be axed, however, and the show has a long history of being tied to the tragic mental health declines of past contestants. This weekend, Malin Andersson, who starred on the show in 2016, voiced her concerns about the way the series is made. She told The Mirror: "It should be axed. When I was on it, we were naive, it felt more organic – still scripted but more authentic. Even then, it wasn't pure, it was full of toxicity. Now millions watch it, especially young people, and their idea of love gets completely skewed." She added: "I felt disposable, like a piece of rubbish tossed aside. In there, you're fighting to be seen, to be a main character, seeking validation. It's not healthy – it creates unrealistic drama and messes up how viewers see love." Love Island has come under fire in the past for failing to support contestant that take part in the series - however, strict after care rules were introduced in 2019 after the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.

Rylan Clark says 'they won't listen' as he questions 'decision' by BBC bosses

Rylan Clark has presented his BBC Radio 2 show since 2019 when he replaced Zoe Ball, but he says he has pitched another idea to bosses at the radio station Rylan Clark says BBC bosses 'won't listen' as he questioned a 'decision' made by the broadcaster. The 36-year-old has been presenting his Saturday afternoon slot on BBC Radio 2 since 2019. He replaced presenter Zoe Ball when she moved to the station's coveted breakfast slot. Zoe, 54, has however since left the show and been replaced by Scott Mills. Rylan however continues to broadcast to the nation as well as fronting a series of podcasts for the BBC. ‌ He however hinted that he believes he would be perfect for another role at the station. Although he joked that his pleas to BBC bosses had so far fallen on deaf ears. ‌ He made the revelation as he flashed his geography skills at the weekend. During the bulletin, traffic presenter Sally Boazman asked: 'The A13 Stanford-Le-Hope bypass, eastbound, is partly blocked between Stanford-le-Hope and a place called Fobbing, does that exist? Is there a place called Fobbing?' 'Yeah, it's basically the Basildon turn-off,' responded Essex boy Rylan. He added: 'It's a little village on the outskirts of Corringham.' Sally responded: 'You should do the traffic really, shouldn't you?' To which Rylan joked: 'I should. I've been saying this for years but they won't listen.' Before working in radio, Rylan rose to fame when he appeared on the X Factor in 2012. He was eliminated in the quarter final as James Arthur went on to win the competition. Just weeks later however, Rylan was whisked away to the Celebrity Big Brother house. He won over the nation and was crowned the winner, ahead of reality stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. ‌ He later went on to work as a reporter on This Morning as well as presenting Big Brother's Bit on the Side. Since 2018 he has commentated on the semi-finals of Eurovision alongside fellow Radio 2 star Scott. Earlier this year Rylan won a BAFTA for his documentary Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour, which saw him travelling around Italy with Rob Rinder. Rylan described the show as 'two gay guys, going through a divorce' after he split from ex-husband Dan Neal in 2021, and Rob split from his own husband in 2018. ‌ Speaking to the Mirror and other press, Rylan said: "The show, it happened at a really weird time for me. I wasn't fully over some of the breakdown of my marriage and stuff like that. I was flung with a judge. It was the best therapy I needed. "The journey, and I hate that word in telly, from when we meet and how raw I was at that time. It was like being an adolescent again and starting again but with cameras there. 'Everyone who worked on the show made it look exactly how it was. They didn't try to make it look good.' The pair will return with a follow-up series, Rob and Rylan's Passage to India, which is set for release in autumn.
