No security or health incidents reported on Arafat day, says Makkah deputy emir

ARAFAT — Prince Saud bin Mishaal, deputy emir of the Makkah Region and vice chairman of the Permanent Hajj and Umrah Committee, praised God for enabling 1.67 million pilgrims to complete the Day of Arafat without any recorded security or health incidents.
Speaking from Arafat on Thursday, the prince attributed the smooth movement and calm spiritual atmosphere to the Kingdom's integrated service system and the leadership's meticulous planning.
'In this great day, pilgrims gather in Arafat in devotion and reverence,' he said. 'They were transported from Makkah and Mina to Arafat in record time, under flexible and efficient plans, with no security or epidemic incidents reported — all by the grace of God.'
Prince Saud expressed gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for mobilizing extensive material and human resources to serve the guests of God. He also acknowledged the direct supervision of Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, in overseeing all operational plans.
'We are honored by God to serve His sacred sites,' the prince said, adding: 'It is a great responsibility that we must carry out with sincerity.'
He called on all pilgrims to adhere to official instructions and thanked security forces, volunteers, and service personnel for presenting a positive image of the Kingdom. 'Continue your noble mission,' he urged, 'we are proud of you.'
The deputy emir asked God to accept their deeds and grant them a blessed Hajj.

Heritage Commission registers over 700 new archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Heritage Commission revealed that 744 new archaeological sites have been added to the National Antiquities Register, bringing the total to 10,061 across the Kingdom. This milestone highlights the richness and diversity of Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage and reflects the commission's continuous commitment to documenting and preserving these sites. The newly registered sites span various regions of the Kingdom, including Riyadh (253), Makkah (11), Madinah (167), Qassim (30), Eastern Province (13), Asir (64), Tabuk (72), Hail (13), Northern Borders (2), Jazan (23), Najran (86), and Al-Jouf (10). The registrations comply with the Antiquities, Museums, and Urban Heritage Law, issued by Royal Decree on 9/1/1436 AH, and follow a resolution by the Heritage Commission's Board of Directors authorizing its CEO to register archaeological and heritage sites. This initiative aims to strengthen protection for sites of historical and cultural value and ensure proper documentation. Emphasizing that community participation is a key pillar in preserving and promoting the Kingdom's national heritage, the Heritage Commission called on citizens and residents to support these efforts by reporting unregistered sites via the Balagh platform, official social media channels, or the Unified Security Operations Center at 911.

Canopies at Prophet's Mosque Provide Safety, Comfort for Worshippers

The canopies surrounding the Prophet's Mosque play a vital role in enhancing the comfort and safety of worshippers and visitors. Designed to shield them from intense sunlight and fluctuating weather—especially during peak Hajj and Umrah seasons—these structures create a serene and protected environment for prayer and reflection. Constructed to the highest structural and engineering standards, the canopies are built to withstand wind, fire, and rain. Their sand-colored fabric allows natural light to filter through while preserving the distinct artistic patterns that adorn each canopy. The project features 250 retractable canopies, each spanning 25.5 meters per side and rising approximately 22 meters high, with an individual weight of around 40 tons. They are equipped with automated systems that open at sunrise and close before sunset. Each canopy consists of two interlocking segments that fold seamlessly when retracted. Crafted from fiberglass-reinforced carbon fiber and embellished with mosaic designs and gold-plated copper, the canopies reflect a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The sophisticated design includes an internal operating cylinder, eight structural supports, and a series of internal, central, and diagonal arms. To enhance comfort further, 436 mist fans are installed around the canopies to cool the surrounding air, complemented by more than 1,000 integrated lighting units. Together, these features help maintain a moderate climate and create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Each canopy can shelter over 900 worshippers, collectively accommodating more than 228,000 people during peak periods.
