Chandan K. Anand On Homebound And Kankhajura: 'You Must Embody The Soul Of...'

Chandan K. Anand discusses his roles in Kankhajura and Homebound, collaborating with Neeraj Ghaywan and Janhvi Kapoor, and why complex characters demand soul, not technique.
Actor Chandan K. Anand, known for his compelling performances in Class, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Fighter, and Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul, is making waves once again with two standout projects—SonyLiv's psychological drama Kankhajura and Dharma Productions' Homebound, which recently premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
In Kankhajura, Anand portrays Roshan Mathew's jail-mate, a role laced with psychological complexity and restrained menace. For Anand, stepping into such roles isn't just about rehearsing lines or hitting marks—it's a deeper, more immersive process. 'It's never easy to portray complex characters — because it's not just about acting. As actors, we hone our craft for years, but to live a complex character, you must go beyond technique. You must embody the soul of that character so completely that no trace of 'acting' remains," he shares.
He calls the script his 'sacred text," saying he read it more than a hundred times before shooting began. 'I kept visualizing it, diving into the hidden meanings, symbols, subtext. Then I built a personal backstory, something imaginative yet deeply rooted. Eventually, your breath changes, your eyes shift, your energy transforms — and you stop performing. You start being. That's when the magic begins."
While details about his role in Homebound remain under wraps, Anand speaks of the experience with visible emotion and gratitude. 'At this point, I can't reveal too much about my character — but what I can say is that working on Homebound has been nothing short of a dream. To collaborate with Neeraj Ghaywan sir, whose cinema I deeply respect, and under Dharma Productions, has been a milestone for me."
He also praised his co-stars, Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa, for bringing their own unique energies to the set. 'Sharing screen space with Janhvi, Ishaan, and Vishal — actors with such distinct energies — elevated the experience. When you're surrounded by passionate storytellers, it sharpens your own craft. I'm not chasing stardom, but I know I'm walking the path with sincerity and fire. And when people like Neeraj sir trust your performance, it feels like you're not just acting — you're arriving."
Although he wasn't able to attend Cannes physically, Anand felt the weight and wonder of being part of a film that earned such an international spotlight. 'I wasn't present at Cannes physically, but being part of a film that screened there — and was loved — is surreal in itself. It's a blessing. Knowing that international audiences are watching and feeling something we created — that's what we live for as actors."

DNA Movie Review: A chilling investigative drama bogged down by commercial cliches

Tamil cinema often explores the complexities of marriage. From marital discord due to forced marriage to people falling out of love, and hoping the other one falls into love, we have seen various facets of marital life be explored in our films. And when director Nelson Venkatesan introduces a distraught Anand (Atharvaa) and a chirpy but disturbed Divya (Nimisha Sajayan) in his latest film, DNA, the stage was set for yet another exploration of two random people deciding to live their lives together. This is a space Nelson has excelled in, right from his debut film, Oru Naal Koothu, which dealt with the idea of marriage. Even in Monster, although the primary story was a man-rodent conflict, it spoke about companionship, empathy, and loneliness. And it was a culmination of all of these themes in his third film, Farhana. However, in DNA, Nelson lets go of his strong suit to put on an armour of investigative drama, and is unable to balance both with the required panache. Director: Nelson Venkatesan Cast: Atharvaa, Nimisha Sajayan, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, Balaji Sakthivel DNA begins with a bar song about love, loss, and loneliness, and it is quite a surprising start to a Nelson film. Nevertheless, this song atleast serves the purpose of condensing Anand's backstory into a few minutes. Soon enough, we understand why Anand is a drunkard and a druggie rolled into one, who is the poster child of infamy in a house filled with professors and researchers. But despite the seemingly educated backgrounds, they are quite regressive, and think the only way their rehabilitated son can get married is to find a girl below their 'class' and someone who has a 'problem.' And bam! We have Divya. She is said to be affected by Borderline Personality Disorder, and her parents do say she has a bunch of tablets and undergoes therapy. However, what's disappointing is the rather one-note exploration of the disorder. And the flippant use of 'loosu ponnu' could have actually been excused if not for a dialogue that comes later, which goes, 'Kalyanathukku apram ellaam normal aaiduchu.' It reinforces the age-old Tamil cinema trope that marriage is the solution for everything, especially mental health issues.

Leonardo DiCaprio's new girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti is above 25 and the internet can't keep calm

(Image: For years, Leonardo DiCaprio's love life has followed a predictable (and slightly comical) pattern: date a stunning woman under 25, part ways before her next birthday, and repeat. It became such a thing that people started calling it the 'Leo 25 Rule'—a sort of invisible stopwatch ticking away in the background of every one of his relationships. But now? That stopwatch might've finally stopped. Enter Vittoria Ceretti, the 27-year-old Italian supermodel who's got the looks, the career, and, more importantly, the age that's turning heads across Hollywood. Not just because she's drop-dead gorgeous or because she struts runways for Prada and Chanel like she was born on them—but because, finally, Leo's dating a woman who doesn't come with a countdown clock. The Cannes connection Their romance reportedly began around Cannes 2023, a fitting backdrop for two people who are essentially walking cinema. While they kept things low-key at first, things took a bold turn in May 2025 when the pair made a high-voltage appearance at the Met Gala. Vittoria, dressed in a sheer burgundy gown with the confidence of a woman completely comfortable in her own skin, walked side-by-side with Leo, who for once didn't seem to be dodging the cameras. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Olvídate de repostar CUPRA Ver oferta Undo The body language was subtle but intimate—hands grazing, private smiles, that knowing look couples share when they're on the same wavelength. Paparazzi caught them laughing between poses, leaning in mid-conversation, and looking genuinely…well, happy. And the internet noticed. Breaking the 'Under 25' cycle Let's not sugarcoat it—Leo's dating track record has become a pop culture punchline. From Gisele Bündchen to Bar Refaeli, every breakup happened like clockwork when the woman turned 25. It's been charted, graphed, and turned into viral memes. He's never said out loud that he has an age limit, but the pattern has been too strong to ignore. So when fans discovered that Vittoria is 27, the reaction was immediate: wait, is Leo... evolving? It's not just her age that's got people hopeful. It's who she is. Vittoria: More than a supermodel Born in Brescia, Italy, Vittoria Ceretti has been modeling since she was a teenager. But she's no fresh face. She's walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Chanel, Balenciaga, and graced multiple international Vogue covers. She's known for her cool-girl charisma, artsy edge, and not playing the typical 'celebrity girlfriend' role. Insiders say she's fiercely independent, emotionally mature, and not interested in fame for fame's sake—which, let's be honest, is probably refreshing for someone like Leo. Their chemistry, as insiders note, is 'easy and unforced.' She's not star-struck, he's not trying too hard, and there's reportedly 'a lot of mutual respect.' That's not something we've heard about many of his past flings. Rumors, rings, and real talk Of course, it wouldn't be a Leo romance without a few rumors. Tabloids floated the idea of a secret engagement in late 2024, but sources close to the couple say there's no ring—yet. Still, those same sources hint that DiCaprio is 'more grounded' with Vittoria than he's been in years. Some even speculate that fatherhood might not be completely off the table anymore. One insider told a celeb weekly: 'He's not suddenly planning a white-picket-fence life, but he's thinking more seriously about the future.' No one's saying he's ready to settle down with a house in the suburbs and a Labradoodle. But dating someone outside of his 'forever 24' comfort zone? That's already big news. A Hollywood glow-up? Look, Leo has always been Leonardo DiCaprio—Oscar-winner, climate activist, Hollywood legend. But his personal life? It often felt like it belonged to a man stuck in the same loop. With Vittoria Ceretti, the vibe is different. She brings grace, wit, independence, and just enough European cool to make even Leo look like he's trying to keep up. They're stylish, age-appropriate (finally!), and—dare we say—kind of wholesome. So maybe the jokes can stop. Maybe we're watching Leonardo DiCaprio, almost 50, lean into a version of adulthood that doesn't come with Peter Pan syndrome. Because for the first time in a long time, he's not dating someone who still needs a learner's permit to rent a car. One step to a healthier you—join Times Health+ Yoga and feel the change
