"SNL" star Ego Nwodim sports Crystal Palace shirt after cousin Eberechi Eze leads team to FA Cup win

NBC News19-05-2025

"Saturday Night Live" cast member Ego Nwodim celebrated the end of the show's historic 50th season the usual way, by socializing on stage in Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center in New York City.
She was there with the host, Scarlett Johansson, the musical guest, Bad Bunny, and fellow cast members. But her heart may have been dreaming of celebrations on the other side of the Atlantic.
Nwodim made sure cameras captured her upper torso as she sported a Crystal Palace jersey with the name of her cousin, English soccer star Eberechi Eze, on the back.
Hours earlier, Eze had helped Palace win the first major trophy in its 120-year professional history, scoring the only goal in the Eagles' 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
In a 2023 interview for the Crystal Palace website, Eze revealed the family relation and said he had given Nwodim one of his jerseys.
'That's my cousin,' he told a team interviewer who asked why an "SNL" cast member had worn his jersey. 'She came down to London and I gave her a shirt. So that's quite sick.'
The shirt Nwodim wore Saturday matches the club's third shirt from the 2022/23 season. She has worn it at least one other time on the show.
Nwodim and Eze share Igbo Nigerian heritage, with Eze having grown up in his team's backyard of South London and Nwodim in Baltimore.
The relatives were both a part of history on Saturday. SNL completed a 50-season run that launched when it was still a hippie showcase featuring folk stars and psychedelic comedy. Eze led his team to a win at a historic place, too — Wembley Stadium.

World No.1 Humphries quickly pinged the pong-row flinger a cheeky response. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK The 2024 Ally Pally king said: "Great farts mate!! I mean 'Darts'." However, fans managed to be even less subtle than Humphries with their rip-ostes. James Wade names two darts stars who should NOT have been invited into Premier League darts One wrote: "You have blown all your opponents away, the smell of success is strong when your on stage." Another mused: "Must be great to let off a bit if steam, although Peter Wright might not agree." The farting furore exploded live on TV during Players Championship 17 when Wade let rip during a 6-5 victory over Wright. Snakebite might be better suited to dealing with stings than stinks - but he initially laughed it off. Referee Owen Binks reminded them "this is a streamed match, guys". Wade then suggested his Scottish opponent 'Give it a second' before he returned to the oche. But Snakebite appeared to believe that time period was a clear under-estimate. Wade went on to not just nick that match but get better as the week wore on - at darts, that is - peaking with the PC19 crown. Yet incredibly it's the second time the Surrey star has been caught in a storm of his own brewing. That blast from the past was at the Players Championship last September when he blamed the noise on velcro from his new trainers.

Dua Lipa 'blown away' as she becomes emotional during sold-out Wembley show

EXCLUSIVE: Dua Lipa was overcome with emotion as she took to the stage for her first sold-out concert at Wembley Stadium on Friday, admitting it had always been her dream Dua Lipa was overcome with emotion as she fulfilled her ultimate dream. The global mega-star has had a fast rise to fame since she first emerged in the music industry, and she's showing no signs of slowing down. On Friday, she headlined Wembley Stadium for the first time on the first of two nights at the home of English football, before moving on to Anfield in Liverpool. But the British and Albanian star couldn't believe what was happening as she addressed the sold-out crowd who'd flocked to north-west London to see her perform. ‌ Fans had been camping out at the stadium since Thursday, hoping to get to the very front row to see their idol deliver her biggest hits. Addressing the crowd, Dua said: "It means the absolute world to me that you're here tonight. It feels really special to be here today." ‌ The Levitating songstress continued: "It's been ten years since our first ever London show, which happened to be about 350 people, and I dreamt of a night like this that I get to be in front of 70,000 people. I'm so, so blown away." Dua, who joins a small club of female solo artists to headline the stadium, reflected on her career, admitting she believes one song changed her life, after she was signed to her management and record label. That song was Hotter Than Hell, which was fitting as the UK enjoyed its hottest day of the year. But Dua made sure to pull out all the stops for her first night at the iconic venue with a special guest appearance from Jamiroquai. Dua and Jamiroquai performed an incredible duet of the 1996 hit, Virtual Insanity, for her Radical Optimism tour. Vocalist Jay Kay was rocking a classic black hat with a purple trim and a white fringe jacket for the surprise performance, along with purple trousers. Fans were over the moon with the shock guest and rushed to social media to share their excitement, with one user revealing they "wish" they were at the concert in London to witness the duet. The Londoner joins Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Adele, P!NK and Rihanna as one of the few women to have headlined the stadium. She performed her anthems, including Training Season, One Kiss, Levitating, Physical, Electricity, New Rules, Be the One, Don't Start Now and Houdini. ‌ Dua was just 17 when she was first discovered by her long-term manager, Ben Mawson, who said the singer has "it all." Speaking to Music Week in 2020, he revealed: "Dua told me she aspired to be Madonna when I met her, when she was 17, and there was something about the way she said it that made me believe her! "It was about her personality, her charisma, her competitiveness and her drive, and that came across. Dua's got it all, so she's unlimited potential." The singer rose to fame with her 2016 hit Be The One followed by her 2017 break-up anthem, New Rules. Since then, she has won several Brit Awards and three Grammys and headlined Glastonbury Festival last year shortly after the release of her third studio album Radical Optimism, which hit number one on the UK albums chart. Her 2020 Future Nostalgia album also reached number one, while her debut self-titled album, Dua Lipa, reached number three. She is the youngest person to feature on this year's Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List, making her one of the wealthiest musicians in the UK. The singer was recently named the most played artist across radio, TV and public places in the UK for a second time by music licensing company Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL).

The shocking true story that inspired the viral SNL Domingo skit

Last October, people all across social media were obsessed with Saturday Night Live 's Domingo sketch, which featured Ariana Grande and was set to Sabrina Carpenter's hit song Espresso. Now, thanks to a recent Vanity Fair interview with SNL writers Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O'Sullivan, people are discovering just what inspired the Domingo skit in the first place. The original skit featured a bride named Kelsey (Chloe Fineman) and her groom Matthew, whose wedding was derailed when Kelsey's bridesmaids (Ariana, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Shermansing) sang about an affair the bride had with a Latin man named Domingo on her bachelorette trip. The song was hilariously belted out off-key, as the groom interrupted angrily and asked his bride for an explanation. At the end of the skit, Domingo himself (played by Marcello Hernández) appeared and confirmed that he and Kelsey hooked up - all while still singing off-key to Sabrina's Espresso. Fowlie revealed to VF that the skit was somewhat based off of a true story. He revealed that the idea came to him after a video circulating on the internet about an awkward wedding performance caught his eye. But he added that the cheating plotline was something that the SNL writers created themselves. 'I saw this thing floating around on Instagram - a maid of honor speech where she sang Hamilton, God bless her, it really was so genuine,' he said in the interview. 'There was something about the pained look on the bride and the groom's face that I was like, "Oh, this is so good."' Though it hasn't been confirmed exactly which video he's referring to, social media users believe it's a clip from four years ago where the bride's sister was seen rapping her speech along to the Hamilton soundtrack. The bride seemed to smile uncomfortably during the performance. O'Sullivan said, 'Jimmy showed Ariana Grande the video of this maid-of-honor singing poorly. 'Ariana immediately understood: "I need to sing off-key. That's what this demands of me."' And it was executed just as planned, as the original video now has 19 million views on YouTube. The sequel to the skit, which is titled Domingo: Vow Renewal, featured Sabrina herself and a cameo from Pedro Pascal. This second video garnered over 11 million views. In this video, Kelsey and Matthew were renewing their vows less than a year after their marriage, and Domingo appeared again while the bridesmaids sang a song about how Kelsey still yearns for him. But this time, Matthew's friends had an equally-funny response set to Espresso - and it involved a confession that the groom hooked up with Domingo's brother. The entire video was chaotic and ended with the entire cast all dancing on stage together - including Bad Bunny. And while the Domingo universe may seem to be at its end for now, who knows when Domingo himself may make yet another appearance on SNL.
