GMCH seeks cyber probe over repeated hoax ragging complaint mails

Nagpur: The management of Govt Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has sought cyber cops' help to trace the source of multiple hoax ragging complaints it has received in the last few days. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now GMCH dean, Dr Raj Gajbhiye, has sent a letter to the Ajni police over the issue. Dr Gajbhiye told TOI that recently an anonymous mail was received by the anti-ragging committee of GMCH. The committee forwarded the complaint to the college for necessary action. The anonymous mail stated that MBBS students from a senior batch were harassing second-year students. Acting on the complaint, the college faculty members initiated a preliminary inquiry and took statements from students of the junior batch. "During investigations it came to the fore that no student was ragged. There was absolutely no pressure on students to give statements. They too were shocked to know about such a complaint," said Dr Gajbhiye. Dr Sumedh Chaudhary, member secretary of the GMCH anti-ragging committee, said the complaint didn't accuse anyone. "There were no direct allegations against any individuals but just the mention of a senior batch. Our deputy deans counselled the junior batch and gave them two days to report if any such incident had happened. All students gave in writing that they were not subjected to ragging. The mail was received on Monday, and we have prepared a report. It will be forwarded to the UGC's National Anti-Ragging Helpline," he said. Dr Chaudhary added that due to repeated hoax ragging mails, it is very difficult to know if any such incident took place. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "We have been receiving such complaints repeatedly, and each time the college has taken such mails seriously. But no truth has been found in these claims made by faceless persons," Dr Chaudhary said. Fed up with the hoax mails, the GMCH decided to seek police assistance in finding the mischief mongers who are responsible for spreading rumours. "Ajni police inspector is a member of the college's anti-ragging committee. We have written to him seeking a cyber investigation to know the source of these anonymous mails," Dr Gajbhiye said.

Telemedicine service for cancer patients of 10 dists

Lucknow: With Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute & Hospital set to launch a telemedicine service, cancer patients from 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh will no longer need to travel to the state capital for expert consultation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The service will connect district hospitals and medical colleges with its team of specialist doctors. Once operational, the facility will allow suspected cancer patients to consult oncologists via video calls from their home districts. Based on the symptoms, doctors at the institute will recommend necessary tests, while local healthcare providers will share the reports through WhatsApp or email. Further treatment decisions, including referrals to the institute, will be made only when necessary. The telemedicine project is in its final phase. Most of the required equipment was already procured, and installation is underway at hospitals and medical colleges in 10 districts, including Basti, Ayodhya, and Gonda. The full setup is expected to be completed within a month. Patients who are referred to the institute for treatment will later be asked to return to their district hospitals for follow-up consultations, which will also be conducted via telemedicine. A dedicated panel of cancer specialists will provide continuous support and guidance under this system. Prof MLB Bhatt, director of the institute, said that the recruitment of 96 new doctors is nearing completion. "This will help improve patient care, reduce waiting time, and support the opening of new departments. It will also enhance the institute's upcoming telemedicine services," he added.
