UFL players will start season without a strike
The UFL's players have no new Collective Bargaining Agreement. They'll nevertheless proceed with the season as scheduled, reports Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com.
It starts on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET, with the Houston Roughnecks hosting the St. Louis Battlehawks.
The development comes as no surprise to those monitoring the spring league. The players lack the appetite to strike. They want to play football — and they want to play well enough to earn a shot in the NFL.
Lions kicker Jake Bates did it last year; his story was chronicled by ESPN.com on Friday. That becomes a powerful carrot for players not inclined to stick it to UFL ownership.
That said, the players aren't remaining silent. Seifert reports that some players plan to deliver a letter to UFL co-owner Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, if he attends the regular-season opener in Houston.
The letter explains that they want year-round health insurance or a raise that will cover it. The letter also contends that UFL management has refused to bargain with the players in good faith, and that the UFL is willing to invest in everyone but the players.
The players likewise appeal to Johnson's history as a player and union member, reminding him of his vow that UFL players can 'live their dreams and take care of their families.'
The best way to get the Rock's attention would be to walk. Unless and until the players are willing to do that, the imbalance of power will linger. And the players will have a hard time getting what they want.

Saints sign three UFL players
The Saints made official the departures of cornerback Travion Fluellen and running back Xazavian Valladay, who were waived Friday. The Saints also announced three signings. Tight end Seth Green, cornerback Jayden Price and offensive tackle Barry Wesley are joining New Orleans on one-year contracts. Green, 27, played the past two seasons for the UFL's Arlington Roughnecks. In 2025, he caught 13 passes for 150 yards with a touchdown. Green played his college ball at Minnesota from 2017-20 before transferring to Houston in 2021. He caught 13 passes for 157 yards with three touchdowns in his last collegiate season before going undrafted in 2022. He spent two months on the practice squad with Cowboys in 2022 and also participated in Dallas' 2023 training camp and preseason. Price originally signed with the Falcons as a free agent following the 2024 draft out of North Dakota State but did not make the roster. He was a teammate of Green's with the Renegades this spring, recording 27 tackles and half a sack while adding 194 punt return yards and 337 kickoff return yards. In the fall of 2024, Price played one game for the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Wesley played for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL in the 2023 spring season coming out of Colorado State, where he played from 2018-21. After the XFL season, he signed with the Falcons and made the practice squad out of the preseason. After competing with the Falcons in the 2024 preseason, Wesley joined the UFL's Birmingham Stallions for the 2025 spring season. He started nine of 11 games played, seeing action at tackle and guard, and was a nominee for the league's Sportsman of the Year award.

After a standout season in the UFL, Sal Cannella signs with the Cleveland Browns Former Auburn tight end Sal Cannella is heading back to the NFL. After a standout season in the UFL for the Arlington Renegades, Cannella was signed by the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. It is the fourth consecutive year he has been picked up after a spring football season. Last year, Cannella was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was released on August 27th before the start of the season. Cannella was an All-UFL performer this season for the Renegades. He led the team with 44 receptions and second in receiving yards with 474. He only scored one touchdown during the season. Cannella scored his lone touchdown on May 10 in a loss to the Michigan Panthers. In that game he had six catches on seven targets for 92 yards. Statistically it was his best game of the season. Cannella has a lot of experience playing in spring football leagues. He began his spring football career in 2020 with the Generals of the Spring Football League. He was a key part of the team that won the championship. He returned to the Generals for the 2021 season. For 2022, he was a member of the New Orleans Breakers in the USFL and was All-USFL. Canella moved to the XFL in 2023 as he began his career with the Arlington Renegades. They won the championship that season by upsetting the DC Defenders. The Renegades did not make the playoffs with a 5-5 record. He is remembered fondly by Auburn fans during his time on the plains. He spent three years with the Tigers from 2017-19. During those seasons he caught 25 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns. He scored a touchdown in his final two games as an Auburn Tiger. One in a 48-45 win over Alabama, and an Outback Bowl loss to Minnesota. The NFL was in the midst of a player lockout as the league and the NFL Players Association were moving towards a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Even with the ongoing talks, the league went ahead and held the NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals entered the draft with the No. 4 overall pick following a 4-12 season in 2010. One of the big debates entering the draft was at the wide receiver position. Who would go first between Georgia's A.J. Green and Alabama's Julio Jones? The Bengals would select Green who went on to have a great career with the Bengals. But what if the Bengals had gone the other way? In this redraft, the Bengals do, in fact, go in the other direction and take Jones, who originally went No. 6 overall after a big trade involving the Atlanta Falcons. "There was a big debate heading into the 2011 NFL Draft over whether A.J. Green or Julio Jones was the top wide receiver prospect. The Bengals ultimately picked Green, who went on to have an excellent career in Cincinnati. However, Jones ended up being the better player. "The two-time first-team All-Pro recorded a career 94.7 PFF overall grade and was the second-most-valuable receiver across his 13 seasons, according to PFF WAR." Green wasn't too far off, recording a 92.2 career grade. In this redraft, Green went with the very next pick, No. 5 overall to the Arizona Cardinals, rather than their original pick of LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.
