2 dead in blaze at ‘illegal' e-rickshaw charging point in Delhi's Dilshad Colony
Two people died after a massive fire broke out at an 'illegal' e-rickshaw charging point inside a residential building in northeast Delhi's Dilshad Colony late Sunday night, fire and police officials said.
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the fire originated from two e-rickshaws and a bike near the charging station on the ground floor and rapidly spread to the upper floors. 'We received a call at 11.32pm about a battery rickshaw fire inside a house. Four fire tenders were dispatched to the spot in Kodi Colony, Dilshad Garden,' said Atul Garg, DFS Chief.
DFS said the station was operating illegally without permits or alternative exits, and urged police action. To be sure, e-rickshaw charging stations operating in Delhi requires permission from MCD, who check all legal documents and inspect the equipment.
The fire, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit in the charging equipment, was brought under control by 12.35am, officials said, adding that 4 fire tenders were pressed into service. 'The fire affected three vehicles and a charging point in a three-storey building. Most victims were rescued but two sustained severe burns and were rushed to GTB Hospital,' Garg added.
The deceased were identified as Sashi Kumar, 25, who lived with his family in the building, and Ballu, 55, a homeless man resting on the ground floor. Both were declared brought dead at GTB Hospital, officials said.
DCP (northeast) Ashish Mishra said, 'A woman was rescued and two men died. The ground floor was being used for e-rickshaw charging. Crime and FSL teams were called.' A case has been filed under BNS sections 106(1) and 287 for negligent conduct causing death and fire hazard.
The incident is the fourth fire linked to e-rickshaw charging points in three weeks. In three recent incidents, fires at e-rickshaw charging points in Ghonda, Ram Nagar, and Vishvas Nagar injured 10 and killed two. A May 25 Ram Nagar blaze killed two sugarcane juice vendors and injured four others. On May 19, six, including two children, were hurt in Vishvas Nagar. All fires reportedly stemmed from short circuits and illegal setups, officials said.

Udupi: A man alleged that he lost Rs 20,848 after falling prey to a loan fraud. In a complaint, Manjunath said on June 6, he received a call from a person who introduced himself as Satyaprakash Kaushal from Dhani Finance. The caller claimed that he could offer a personal loan. When the complainant said he needed a loan of Rs 1 lakh, the accused asked him to send his Aadhaar card, PAN card, and bank passbook via WhatsApp. After Manjunath shared the documents with the accused's WhatsApp number, the accused informed him that a loan of Rs 1 lakh was approved. He was then asked to deposit some money into the accused's account to cover loan processing charges. The complainant transferred Rs 2,850 through Google Pay to the scanner code sent by the accused. He was then told to pay Rs 5,999 as GST, to which he responded by transferring Rs 6,000. The accused then claimed that Rs 1 was overpaid and asked him to send an additional Rs 4,999. On June 7, the complainant sent the amount. Later, he received a message saying that Rs 1,02,000 was approved as a loan. The accused then demanded a "waiting charge" of Rs 6,999, which Manjunath allegedly paid via Google Pay. After this final payment, the accused switched off his phone, and the loan amount never got credited to the complainant's account. A case has been registered at Byndoor police station under sections 318(4) of the BNS and sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act. Believing this, the complainant shared an OTP with the caller. Following this, Rs 40,500 was fraudulently transferred from her bank account. A case has been registered at Udupi Town police station under Section 318(2) of the BNS and Section 66(D) of the IT Act.

‘Not fit for aircraft, go stitch slippers': IndiGo staffer alleges casteist abuse in office
Gurgaon: An FIR was registered against three officials of IndiGo Airlines after a colleague accused them of subjecting him to caste-based harassment and humiliation at the company's corporate office in the city. Two involved in bike loot arrested
Lucknow: Nigohan police station and the Surveillance Cell of Lucknow's South Zone arrested two accused involved in a robbery of a motorcycle near Karanpur village on June 17. Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Mirknagar, was stopped and robbed by three men on a scooter. The accused allegedly claimed that Sandeep had been harassing one of their sisters to justify the confrontation and theft. An FIR under Section 309(4)/317(2) of BNS was registered at Nigohan police station. Acting promptly under the directives of DCP South Nipun Agarwal, three teams, including surveillance experts, were formed. "The accused deliberately tried to confuse investigators by fabricating a personal motive," said DCP Agarwal in a presser. He added, "They accused the victim of harassment to give the crime a personal angle and delay the investigation. But during interrogation, they confessed that this was just a tactic to divert suspicion." More than 200 CCTV footage from the surrounding areas were scanned, leading to the arrest of Abhishek Sahu (21) and Suraj Rawat (22). Both are auto drivers with prior criminal records. The third accused, Abhay alias Abhinandan alias Marco, remains at large. According to the Lucknow Police, the accused admitted they targeted the bike so it could be used in further criminal activities. "They wanted a second vehicle to escape detection if one was identified," police said. The stolen bike, the scooter used in the crime, and ₹260 were recovered from the duo. For their swift action, the police team was rewarded with ₹25,000 by the DCP South. The hunt for the absconding third accused continues.
