Four held for chain snatching, gold worth Rs 30 lakh seized
Vijayawada: In a significant breakthrough, NTR district police have arrested four individuals in connection with numerous chain snatching and theft cases, recovering approximately 476 grams of gold jewellery valued at around Rs 30 lakh along with two motorcycles.
Addressing the press conference at the Commissionerate here on Wednesday, Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu specially commended ASI Balayya, Swami, Satyanarayana, head constable Ravi, and constables Mithun, Suresh, Shabbir, and Ramana for their pivotal role in apprehending the chain snatchers.
CCS inspectors and their teams formed multiple special units across all police stationsin the district to closely monitor suspicious activities. Based on precise technical intelligence, CCS Inspector Ram Kumar and his team apprehended four individuals near the Tummalapalem bus stop in Ibrahimpatnam.
The suspects had attempted to flee upon noticing the vehicle inspection. Subsequent interrogation led to the recovery of gold ornaments from 25 chain snatching cases and two motorcycles, resulting in their immediate arrest.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Achi Giribabu and Achi Mahesh both from Upputuru in Nellore district, Galeti Venkata Ramana from Donabanda in NTR district and Mogili Sandhya from Kondapalli in NTR district.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the prime accused Achi Giribabu initially worked as an agricultural labourer in Upputuru village. He targeted lone women, snatching their gold chains while riding his Unicorn motorcycle. Giribabu confessed to committing 12 chain snatching offenses in and around his native Nellore district previously, for which he was arrested and imprisoned.
Upon his release, fearing re-arrest in Nellore, he moved to Kondapalli in NTR district, where his second wife, Venkata Ramanamma, resided. Later, he relocated to Donabanda and continued his criminal activities.
Giribabu alone committed 15 snatching offenses on his motorcycle. He collaborated with his brother Mahesh for four snatching incidents, with his wife Venkata Ramana for three snatching incidents, and with his sister-in-law Mogili Sandhya for three chain snatching incidents, bringing the total to 25 chain snatching offenses.
Crime DCP Tirumaleswara Reddy, Crime ADC P M Raja Rao, ACP Venkateswarlu,Inspector Ram Kumar, and other police personnel were present.

The Home Minister urged the youth to become entrepreneurs and start their own startups, leveraging the I-Hub's resources and support. He also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma for their efforts in taking the anti-Naxalite campaign to a decisive phase. Shah appealed to Naxalites to surrender and join the development journey of Chhattisgarh. He assured that graduating from NFSU under the Modi government will guarantee employment. The NFSU's permanent campus is expected to be fully developed within three years, opening up vast career opportunities for Chhattisgarh's youth in forensic science. Shah underscored that the new criminal laws aim to ensure justice within three years and establish a modern, science-based criminal justice system. Cyber con held for cheating man of Rs 1cr in Noida
Noida: A 54-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating a Noida resident of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of stock trading. The fraud happened between April and Aug 2024, while a case was reported at the cybercrime police station on April 7 this year. The accused is identified as Rajendra Sharma, a resident of Ranipur in Haridwar, police said. A senior police officer said the victim, a resident of Sector 77, alleged that on April 23, 2024, he received a WhatsApp message from an unidentified number. The suspects lured him into trading in the stock market with promises of huge profits. "The fraudster claimed that his firm was the parent company of a US multinational investment bank and cheated the victim of Rs 1 crore. When he insisted on meeting him in person, he was asked to come to Mumbai. He later learned from the American MNC that no such associated company ever existed," police said.

Men throw mangoes, rob duo of valuables in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Two men working at a local furniture firm were attacked and robbed by knife-wielding assailants near the Satellite Bus Stand on Mysuru Road on June 20 night. One of the victims, 25-year-old Dharam Parnanglia, was slashed with the knife in the hand and shoulder after he resisted the robbery. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident took place between 10pm and 10.15pm as Dharam and his colleague, 29-year-old Shishupal Vishwakarma — both residents of Kasturibanagar — were returning home after a work assignment at Periyapatna. The pair had been deputed to fix chairs at a private office and had taken a bus back to the city, alighting at the Satellite Bus Stand. According to Shishupal's complaint with Byatarayanapura police, they were near the Post Office signal when two unknown men approached from the opposite direction and began throwing mangoes at them. When the victims protested, the assailants waylaid them and demanded their valuables. "One of them asked us if we had money and demanded that we hand it over. When we said we hardly had any, they checked our pockets," Shishupal stated in his complaint. The miscreants took Shishupal's mobile phone, valued over Rs 12,000. But when they tried to snatch Dharam's phone, he resisted. At this point, the attackers pulled out knives and threatened to stab Dharam to death if he didn't oblige. When he refused again, they slashed him in the hand and shoulder. Bleeding and in pain, Dharam cried for help. The miscreants grabbed his phone — also worth more than Rs 15,000 — and fled toward the Satellite Bus Stand. The victims rushed to their workplace and informed their employer, who contacted police. Dharam was taken to a private hospital, where the doctors confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening. Police said there were no immediate leads, but they are examining CCTV footage from the areas. "According to the victims, the attackers were aged 22-25 years old and were speaking Hindi," said a senior officer. A case has been registered under section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
