Panel for fixation of fares for Metro 2A & 7 proposed
Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed setting up a fare fixation committee (FFC) for Metro Lines 2A and 7 — a statutory step under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002.
The move, approved by the Authority, is a procedural requirement and it does not imply any immediate fare revision, officials clarified.
According to the law, the Central government can constitute a three-member committee, chaired by a sitting or retired high court judge, to review and recommend metro fares. The state and Centre nominate one member each to the panel, both of whom must be senior officials or ex-bureaucrats of at least 'additional secretary' rank.
Currently, Metro Lines 2A (Dahisar East to DN Nagar) and 7 (Dahisar East to Gundavali) are operated by Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL). Both corridors saw weekday ridership touch 2.65 lakh since services began on April 2, 2022.
"Setting up the fare fixation committee is a legal obligation to ensure transparency in fare governance. It's part of the compliance process and not a sign of imminent fare hikes," said an MMRDA official.
Once the state govt clears the proposal, it will be forwarded to the Centre for formal constitution of the committee.

Information Commission orders SCOLE Kerala and Nirmithi Kendras to adhere to RTI Act
The Kerala State Information Commission has brought the State Council for Open and Lifelong Education (SCOLE) Kerala and the Nirmithi Kendras functioning across the State under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. In the first case, the applicant, Krishnan Kutty K. from Palakkad, had requested information from SCOLE Kerala, which operates under the General Education department. Denying information sought under the RTI Act, the institution claimed that it was not bound by the law. Considering the applicant's appeal, State Information Commissioner Sreekumar M. stated that SCOLE Kerala qualifies as a public institution under Section 2(h)(c) of the RTI Act. The commission also pointed out that the administration of SCOLE Kerala is governed by an Executive Council, which includes the Minister of General Education, an Additional Secretary, the Director of General Education and Finance Officer, as well as nominees from the public sector. Therefore, it was concluded that SCOLE Kerala falls under the full ownership and control of the government, as per Section 2(h)(i) of the RTI Act. Similarly, in another case, C. Pradeep Kumar from Adoor filed a petition regarding a denial of information from the Nirmithi Kendra in Thrissur. The Commission ruled that Nirmithi Kendras, which operate under government control, also fall under the RTI Act's jurisdiction. The governing body of these centres includes District Collectors, Sub-collectors, Project Officers, and other senior government officials, all of whom are responsible for overseeing the centres' administration. The Commission has instructed the authorities concerned in both cases to immediately appoint RTI officers in these institutions, and to provide the requested information to the petitioners within 15 days.

Vijay Deverakonda is in the legal hotseat and has been booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, a month after he allegedly made offensive remarks that hurt the sentiments of the tribal community. The complaint was lodged by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities. He accused Deverakonda of making insulting comments during a pre-release event for his upcoming film Retro. Last month another person had also filed a case against the actor for the same comments. A petitioner had alleged that Vijay Deverakonda in his speech about the Pahalgam terror attack remarked that the attacks were akin to clashes between tribal communities hundreds of years ago. During the 'Retro' event last month, Vijay Deverakonda had said:"The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. Two years ago, I shot for Kushi in Kashmir. I have such good memories with them (the locals)." He also said that the neighbouring country struggles to provide its citizens with basic necessities. "Pakistan can't even look after their own, who don't have proper electricity and water. What do they want to do here? India doesn't even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. They behave like tribals did 500 years ago with the way they fight. We should stand united as people and love each other. We always need to move forward as people and stay united. Education is super key. Let's all be happy and keep our parents happy; only then can we progress," the actor said. Vijay's comments drew massive outrage, prompting the actor to issue a public apology.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda has found himself in trouble as a case has been registered against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for his remarks about tribal people during the pre-release event of Retro. The police confirmed the development to PTI on Sunday. Vijay Deverakonda faces trouble as police registers case against him for remarks against tribal people.(PTI) Case registered against Vijay Deverakonda Police stated that although the remarks, which likened the recent terror attack in Pahalgam to tribal conflicts from 500 years ago, were made in April, a case under the SC/ST Act was registered against the actor on 17 June following a complaint. "The actor made comments in April. However, based on a complaint, a case under the SC/ST Act was booked against him on 17 June,' a police official told PTI. The complaint was lodged by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, also known as Ashok Rathod, who serves as the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities. He alleged that during the pre-release event of the film Retro, which stars actor Surya, the actor made statements that hurt the sentiments of tribal communities and caused serious offence. Rathod further claimed that the actor's comparison of tribal people to Pakistani terrorists was racially insensitive. He concluded, "If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide. Vijay Deverakonda."
