After the video went viral, netizens began digging for more information about the 'fake Lady Gaga'. As it turns out, the individual was Chinese singer Pan Hongyue (transliteration from 潘虹樾). The 35-year-old first gained recognition for placing 8th on the 2009 Chinese singing competition 'Super Girl'. She didn't remain very active as a singer following her appearance on the show because she stopped performing to focus on her studies.
However, Pan Hongyue is slowly making her return to the entertainment industry through social media. Her Douyin account shows she's steadily gaining followers by imitating Lady Gaga. In one video, the singer recreated the American star's red leather ensemble that she sported in her 'Mayhem' album. Pan Hongyue also covered other Lady Gaga songs, including 'Poker Face' and 'Bloody Mary'.
