
International Yoga Day: Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi performs asanas along with more than 10,000 students in Madurai
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi performed yoga asanas in the presence of around 10,000 students on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day at Velammal Global School in Madurai on Saturday (June 21, 2025.)
The event began at around 8 a.m. at Usain Bolt ground of the school. Mr. Ravi told the students about the importance of practising yoga asanas. He said 10 years ago, in 2015, India gave the gift to the world and the United Nations had accepted it. 'Every year the number of participants all over the world has been increasing,' he said.

'Yoga transcends religion, region and language and is universal. June 21, the day of summer solstice, was chosen as International Yoga Day as the Sun god is the source of all energy to Earth and it was the longest day,' he said.
'On India's advice, the International community accepted this day as the International Yoga Day. Yoga originated with Lord Shiva, the Aadhi guru and the Aadhi yogi and was codified by Rishi Patanjali,' he said.
He told the students that yoga was the most effective key to good health, physical health as well as mental health. He advised them to dream big and told them that they were like the seeds of a banyan tree which will grow into a mammoth tree. Mr. Ravi said that in their journey and the growth, yoga will be the most powerful and reliable ally.

Chairman of Velammal Educational Trust M.V Muthuramalingam said when he was suffering from health issues he was advised to practise yoga. He advised the students to regularly practise yoga asanas.
The event was organised with the main aim of promoting physical fitness, mental health and wellness among the students and the public, and to create awareness about yoga. The programme was also being held to showcase India's traditional education system and culture.

Social welfare dept takes yoga to elderly, youth
Lucknow: Department of social welfare celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day with senior citizens and students across the state, holding yoga sessions in all old age homes and Jayaprakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in keeping with this year's 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. "Over 6,500 elderly residents of old age homes performed yoga under expert supervision. Simultaneously, students of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas participated in group yoga sessions with their teachers, taking a pledge to lead healthy lives," said an official. In Varanasi, BHU yoga expert Vinod Kumar Patel led session and explained benefits of yoga. In Mahoba, yoga instructor Prem Narayan Swarnkar led a session at the Aadharshila old age home, while in Bahraich's old age home, instructors Ajay Kumar Chaudhary, Dr Ram Gopal and others taught simple asanas to elderly residents.

Mental wellness aspect of yoga upheld
Lucknow: Doctors, psychologists, staff members, patients and their families particilated in the International Yoga Day event focused on promoting mental empowerment, self-discipline and emotional well-being. The event was organised by Dr Anjali Gupta and Dr Shabari Dutta. Representatives from Lucknow University , Amity University and Christchurch College led sessions on yoga postures, pranayama and meditation.

Lucknow: Medical institutions and hospitals across the city organized programmes to celebrate the International Yoga Day . At KGMU, the department of respiratory medicine shared insights from a study showing that combining yoga with standard asthma treatment significantly reduces depression, anxiety, and stress. Prof RAS Kushwaha, said that the results reinforced yoga's potential in improving mental health. RMLIMS held a yoga camp attended by over 800 students, doctors, and staff. Led by yoga guru Om Narayan Awasthi, the session began with a street play. Institute's director Prof CM Singh said that just 30 minutes of daily yoga could significantly benefit both body and mind. At Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital in Bakshi Ka Talab, medical staff, under the guidance of Dr VK Sharma and yoga instructor Uma Devi, participated in the yoga session. Balrampur Hospital hosted a mass yoga session at its new OPD block. Director Dr Dinesh Kumar underlined the importance of yoga in preventing lifestyle diseases. Senior consultant Dr Vishnu Kumar and CMS Dr SK Pandey highlighted positive impact of yoga on immunity. An event was held at Lok Bandhu Hospital where Satyendra Bari and Swatantra Prakash Gupta encouraged people to adopt yoga as a lifelong habit. Director Dr Sangeeta Gupta emphasised yoga's relevance in women's health, while CMS Dr Rajeev Dixit gave the slogan 'Karo Yog, Raho Nirog'. Max Hospital and Era Medical College also organised yoga camps focused on promoting regular practice for well-being. At Max Hospital, Dr Ambukeshwar Singh highlighted yoga's importance in improving the health of heart.
