Colorado basketball accepts invite to inaugural College Basketball Crown
The Colorado men's basketball team left the Big 12 Tournament last week, perhaps grateful that their miserable 20-loss season finally ended with a lossto Houston in the quarterfinals.
Well, CU basketball fans, your team is back from the dead and will be headed to Las Vegas in hopes of some postseason glory.
On Monday morning, Colorado announced it accepted an invitation to the inaugural College Basketball Crown. The Crown, a third-tier postseason competition developed by Fox, will rival the NIT as the premier secondary competition to the NCAA Tournament. The 16-team tournament will run from March 31 to April 6, with games at the MGM Grand Garden Area and the T Mobile Arena.
The Buffaloes (14-20) will play Villanova in the first round on April 1 at 6:30 p.m. MT. The winner will face Tulane or former Pac-12 rival USC in the second round.
Four other Big 12 teams – Utah, Arizona State, Cincinnati and Central Florida – are in the Crown field.
Colorado will have quite a bit of time between Selection Sunday and the start of the College Basketball Crown. Still, head coach Tad Boyle's acceptance of an invite likely means he expects to field a competitive team with few departures in the transfer portal.

Rockets' Initial Trade Offer For Kevin Durant Revealed

Rockets' Initial Trade Offer For Kevin Durant Revealed originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the NBA offseason heats up, the Phoenix Suns are actively exploring trade options for superstar Kevin Durant, and the Houston Rockets have emerged with an intriguing initial proposal. Advertisement According to an article published by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints on Friday, the Rockets have offered guard Jalen Green and the 10th pick in this year's draft in exchange for the 15-time All-Star. However, negotiations have hit a snag, as the Suns are pushing for additional young talent, including Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason, and Reed Sheppard—players Houston is reluctant to part with. Durant, 36, remains a dominant force despite turning entering the waning years of his career, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season. His potential move has sparked widespread speculation, with the Rockets among the frontrunners alongside the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves. Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin DurantRick Scuteri-Imagn Images The Rockets' offer hinges on Green, a former No. 2 overall pick, and a valuable draft pick, but Phoenix's demand for more established young assets has created a standoff. Advertisement Sources indicate the Suns are seeking a package that includes two starting-caliber players and draft capital to rebuild after a disappointing 36-46 season. For Houston, retaining Smith, Eason, and Sheppard reflects confidence in their young core, which helped secure the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference last year. Meanwhile, the Suns' high asking price underscores their intent to maximize return on Durant's expiring $54.7 million contract. As the NBA Draft looms, this trade saga could reshape both franchises. Will the Rockets sweeten the deal, or will another suitor, like the Heat with rookie Kel'el Ware, steal Durant away? Eugenio Suárez homers twice to reach 300 in the Diamondbacks' 14-8 victory over the Rockies

DENVER -- Eugenio Suárez homered twice to become the third Venezuelan-born player to reach 300, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 14-8 on Friday night. Suárez, who tied his season high with four hits, went deep in the fifth and sixth innings to reach the milestone. He trails only Miguel Cabrera (511) and Andrés Galaragga (399) among Venezuelan-born players. Ketel Marte drove in five runs with a three-run home run and two-run double, and Ildemaro Vargas finished a triple shy of the cycle and hit his first homer of the season for Arizona, which had a season-high 21 hits. The big offensive night spoiled Austin Gomber's first home start of the season. Gomber (0-1), who began the year on the injured list with a sore left shoulder, made his season debut Sunday at Atlanta with five scoreless innings, but was tagged for nine runs and 12 hits in 4-2/3 innings against Arizona. Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen (5-8) navigated through five shaky innings to get the victory. Colorado sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth and scored six runs to take a 7-6 lead. Ryan McMahon and Mickey Moniak homered and Hunter Goodman had a two-run double in the inning to rally from a five-run deficit. Suárez's second home run of the night and team-leading 24th of the season stretched Arizona's lead to 11-7 in the sixth inning. He leads the majors in RBIs with 65. Colorado has hit seven home runs in two games against Gallen this season. He had given up two to the Rockies in his previous 15 starts against them. Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (6-3, 3.41) will make his 17th career start against Colorado, facing LHP Carson Palmquist (l0-4, 7.76).
