Iraqi oil ports 'UNAFFECTED' by regional tensions
Shafaq News/ Iraq's oil and commercial ports are functioning without disruption despite heightened security tensions across the region, the General Company for Ports of Iraq confirmed on Saturday. Speaking to Shafaq News, the company's Director General, Farhan Al-Fartousi, reported that maritime traffic at the Basra Oil Terminal and offshore single point moorings (SPMs) remains steady, with large tankers continuing to dock, offload, and depart according to schedule. 'All marine units are functioning under well-defined operational plans that ensure safety and continuity,' Al-Fartousi added, stressing that between June 1 and 20, a total of 48 oil tankers arrived at Iraqi ports. The reassurance comes as regional tensions mount sharply following Israel's launch of Operation Rising Lion — a series of targeted strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran has retaliated with True Promise 3, its most extensive direct attack on Israeli territory to date. The Iranian operation has so far involved 18 waves of missile and drone strikes. With both sides signaling the possibility of further escalation, concerns have grown over potential impacts on maritime security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for nearly 20% of global oil shipments.

Iraq urges US to prevent Israeli Airspace violations
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its call on Saturday for the United States to take urgent action to prevent Israeli aircraft from violating Iraqi airspace. According to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, during a meeting with Steven H. Fagin, the chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy in Baghdad, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, expressed Baghdad's deep concern over what he described as repeated Israeli incursions into Iraqi skies. 'A recent breach of sovereignty was recorded on Friday, when Israeli warplanes reportedly flew over the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, continuing southward.' Bahr Al-Uloom stressed that the infringement 'not only undermines Iraq's sovereignty but also poses a direct threat to civil aviation safety,' particularly over Basra International Airport, which is currently the primary air gateway for returning stranded Iraqi citizens and outbound travelers. 'This is a matter of national security and the safety of civilian air traffic,' he emphasized. He also urged the US to 'take all necessary measures to halt these violations and enhance Iraq's capacity to deter threats to its sovereignty, territory, and airspace,' citing the 2008 US-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement as the foundation for cooperation on such matters.

Iraqis rally behind Iran after Al-Sistani's warning
Shafaq News/ Hundreds of Iraqis in Babil and Kirkuk rallied Saturday in support of Tehran, responding to a statement by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani condemning Israeli strikes and warning of regional chaos if Iran's leadership is targeted. Speaking with Shafaq News, protesters in Babil strongly condemned Israel's continued attacks on Iran, affirming the unity of the Islamic position in 'confronting injustice and arrogance.' In Kirkuk, dozens of religious clerics gathered. One of the participants, Abbas Hussein, told Shafaq News, 'These demonstrations are a rejection of the Israeli strikes on Iran, and we stand with our neighbor in this war,' confirming that solidarity among Islamic nations is 'the strongest weapon in the face of aggression.' Earlier Saturday, supporters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) staged a demonstration in Baghdad's al-Kadhimiya district to declare their backing for Iran. The event followed nationwide rallies on Friday organized by the Patriotic Shiite Movement (the Sadrist) in response to a call from its leader, Muqtada al-Sadr, to protest Israel's military campaign. Tensions have sharply escalated since June 13, when Israel and Iran entered open confrontation marked by daily missile and drone strikes. Despite growing international calls for de-escalation, both sides continue to trade fire across multiple fronts.
