19,000 rice bags supplied to government schools, welfare hostels in Annamayya district: Joint Collector
The Annamayya district administration has commenced the distribution of quality rice to all government schools and welfare hostels under the PM Poshan–Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal scheme from Thursday, following the reopening of schools.
Speaking to the media, District Joint Collector Adarsh Rajendran said that around 19,000 rice bags weighing 25 kg each have already supplied to as many as 2,009 government schools and 171 welfare hostels across the district.
'To strictly curb the menace of diversion of the stocks and to maintain transparency, the rice bags are equipped with QR codes and GPS tracking system. Scanning the code will display details such as the source farmer and the mill. Issues about the quality of rice can be traced forthwith and such gaps be filled with technology,' he said.
The Joint Collector also prompted a live demonstration of the QR code scan module during the media briefing, at the Collectorate here. Senior officials from the departments of Revenue, Civil Supplies, Panchayat Raj, and Education took part in the meeting.

State government to amend rules related to various departments to spur investments
The State government is set to amend several rules related to various departments with an aim to spur more investments. The decision comes in the wake of the Invest Kerala Global Summit organised by the Industries department. A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan decided to expedite further steps in this regard. As many as 31 rules and policies related to various departments are expected to be amended. The policies and rules related to the Departments of Local Self-Government, Revenue, Electricity, Environment, Labour, Agriculture, Higher Education, and General Policies and Rules will be updated or amended in such a way as to make them investment-friendly, according to a release issued on Sunday. Relaxations will be made to the norms regarding the width of entrance in the Kerala Building Rules 2019. It has also been decided to increase the maximum permissible area of buildings for industrial purposes in Category II Panchayats. Building permit The list of supporting documents required for applying for a building permit on leased land will be revised. The registered lease agreement will be considered as a document for building ownership. The guidelines for regularisation of constructions made under the Kerala MSME Facilitation Act, 2019 will be revised. Amendments have also been proposed in the guidelines for local self-government bodies to accept licenses and deemed licenses issued under the provisions of the Kerala Industrial Single Window Clearance Boards and the Industrial Township Area Development Act, 1999. The norms for mandatory parking facilities for resorts and hotels in the tourism and hospitality sector will be relaxed. For this, the norms for calculating the area of the building will be revised. Consideration will be given to granting permission for expansion by following the building construction rules applicable at the time of the establishment of the enterprise. Task force A task force is also being considered in the Local Self-Government department to give priority to the expressions of interest received at the Invest Kerala Global Summit. As many as 13 amendments to the rules related to the Local Self-Government department are being considered. A decision will be taken in consultation with the Finance department regarding the removal of the provision for payment of additional fees in the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008. The Unique Thandaper Number system will be expedited for transparent and efficient land use. The land conversion applications related to the projects which came up at the Invest Kerala Global Summit will be expedited and considered on priority basis. The confusion in the order regarding the consideration of the Ministerial Committee regarding land ownership above 15 acres for industrial purposes will be resolved. A circular will be issued clarifying the powers of Agriculture Officers regarding change of land type. Training will also be provided to Agriculture Officers. Consideration will be given to revising the fees for permits of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. The validity period of registration certificates under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act will be increased. Streamline procedures It was decided to consider proposals to simplify land conversion procedures to facilitate investments, a proposal to streamline the procedures of the Forest and Wildlife department to issue various permits and certificates quickly and transparently, and a proposal to make technical education industry-oriented and strengthen skill development. The amendments are aimed at addressing the shortage of land for industrial use, simplifying the procedures for land acquisition and clearances and formulating rules to expedite clearances related to various departments. Mankani festival begins in Krishnagiri
The 31st All India Mankani festival was inaugurated at Kalaignar Thidal here on Saturday (June 21, 2025). The festival was being ushered in on the shadows of a grim season for mango growers grappling with fallen prices for the king of fruits this summer. Inaugurating the festival, Minister for food and Civil Supplies R. Sakkarapani said the State government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was tuned into the needs of the farmers and the various schemes for farmers welfare was an outcome of informed deliberations. The district has over 1.02 ha of horticultural crops. This includes 40.070 ha of vegetables, 33,550 ha of fruits and 11.363 ha of flowers. Of these, over 32,147 ha of the horticultural area is under mango cultivation in the district. This entails a production of 2.60 mt of mangoes, of which 1.20 lakh mt is given to pulp industry. The Mankani festival will be a month-long affair with over a line-up of stalls by the Horticulture Department along with the various informative stalls on government schemes set up by the Department of Information and Publicity. An exclusive recreational arena has been set up for the public and children as part of the festival. The week has seen political parties expressing solidarity with the mango growers, whilst demanding compensation for the poor prices. Mango farmers, faced with prices as low as ₹3.50 to ₹5 per kg are demanding the government to step in and urged pulp industry to procure mangoes at higher prices. While a section of the farmers also call for support price on the lines of Andhra Pradesh government, where a support price of ₹4 per kg was announced to be given along with ₹8 per kg procured by the pulp industry. In view of the ongoing festival, traffic diversions have been made.

Development of 29 parks will protect land worth ₹150 crore in Nellore, says MLA
MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy on Thursday said that lands worth ₹150 crore were protected with the development of 29 parks in Nellore Rural constituency under 'Chandranna Parkula Baata' programme. The MLA was speaking during the foundation stone laying event for parks in divisions 21, 22 and 23 in the city on Thursday (June 19). He said, 'The government can only develop the parks, but the responsibility of maintaining the parks lies in the hands of the people. With the blessings of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the cooperation of the people, Nellore Rural constituency is witnessing unprecedented development.' Meanwhile, the revenue department on Thursday (June 19) reclaimed two-acre plot of land belonging to Ahobilam Peetham in Survey No. 295 in Nellore Rural constituency worth ₹15 crore, which was allegedly encroached by a former Member of Parliament. The ex-MP has reportedly acquired this land using his power, influence and financial strength. The Peetham members fought for this land many times but failed. They had brought it to the notice of the district authorities. However, no action was taken by the previous government. After the Coalition government came to power, the representatives of the Peetham met Nellore Rural MLA and conveyed their problem. He immediately directed the Revenue officials, who collected the land records, and declared that the two-acre plot belonged to Ahobilam Peetham.
