Kemas Teacher Salary Scheme To Be Revised
BANGI, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) will review the salary scheme for Community Development Department (Kemas) teachers, aiming to elevate their role and better protect their welfare.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the welfare of Kemas teachers, whether in terms of allowances, promotion opportunities, social protection or recognition, must be prioritised and structured appropriately.
'To raise outstanding children, we must start by uplifting their educators. We cannot expect extraordinary results if our teachers are only provided with the bare minimum.
'That is why I want a comprehensive and phased strategic improvement plan implemented for Kemas educators,' said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, when launching the Kemas Educators' Day celebration here today.
Also present were KKDW secretary-general Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar and Kemas director-general Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man.
Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that with continued support, focused training, and a work ecosystem that values its educators, Malaysia could nurture more dynamic and competitive Kemas teachers who remain the backbone of community education in the country.
Meanwhile, he said KKDW aims to establish at least one kindergarten (tabika) for children with special needs in every district nationwide by 2027.
He said this effort was to ensure that children with special needs are not left behind in receiving early education through the implementation of the Tabika Tunas Istimewa@Kemas, which begins this year.
'This initiative will start in Melaka this year. God willing, we will try to ensure that no Malaysian child is left behind in accessing early education, regardless of their circumstances,' he said.

Malbatt honoured with UN Medals for contributions to peacekeeping, outreach programmes
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 155 personnel from the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) 850-12, including 20 officers, 134 other ranks, and one government staff member, were honoured with United Nations (UN) Medals. They were honoured in a ceremonial medal parade held at the Marakah Camp in Lebanon on Thursday (June 19). Also present was Malaysia's Ambassador to Lebanon, Azri Mat Yacob, who officiated the medal adornment as a gesture of the Malaysian Government's support and appreciation for the contingent's role in international peacekeeping efforts. The awarding of the UN Medals is an official recognition of the professionalism, dedication, and contributions of Malbatt 850-12 personnel in maintaining regional peace and supporting international missions. Malbatt 850-12 began its deployment under Unifil in November 2024, during a period of heightened security concerns in southern Lebanon, amid escalating tensions in the region involving Israel and Iran. These challenges posed significant pressure on local political stability and public safety. In this context, Malbatt 850-12 played a crucial role in supporting Unifil's mandate to assist the Lebanese government in strengthening security control and monitoring within the area of operations, while also fostering strong cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Beyond peacekeeping operations, Malbatt 850-12 has also carried out numerous humanitarian initiatives, including medical outreach, food aid distribution, and engagement programmes for orphans. These efforts have helped foster goodwill with local communities and contributed meaningfully to social stability within the region.

GST Not Suitable For Implementation Yet Because Rakyat's Income Still Low
PUTRAJAYA, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an efficient and transparent taxation system, but it is not yet suitable for re-implementation because the rakyat's income threshold is still low, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the government did not completely reject the proposal to re-implement the GST, but the ability of low-income people must be taken into account first because the taxation system has a comprehensive impact. Poll: 60% of Americans don't think US should get involved in Israel-Iran conflict
WASHINGTON: A majority of Americans do not want the US to get involved in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, according to a poll released this week. The Economist/YouGov poll found that just 16% of Americans believe the US military should intervene in the conflict, while a clear majority - 60% - oppose involvement and 24% remain undecided, Anadolu Ajansi reported citing the poll. Majorities across party lines - 65% of Democrats, 61% of Independents and 53% of Republicans - oppose US involvement, reflecting broad bipartisan resistance to entering the conflict. The poll was conducted among 1,512 US adult citizens and the margin of error for the overall sample was approximately 3%. US President Donald Trump said Thursday (June 19) that he will decide on whether or not to carry out strikes on Iran within two weeks. "Based on the fact that there's a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks," Trump said in a statement read aloud by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt. The announcement came as Trump faces an internal rift within his Republican base over whether or not he should join Israel's campaign against Iran. Prominent voices including media personality Tucker Carlson, Trump strategist Steve Bannon, Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have warned against the president becoming involved in direct military action.
