China hits out at US and Israel, calls for de-escalation of conflict with Iran

China sharply criticised the United States and
Israel on Sunday, calling on them to de-escalate their conflict with
Iran , prioritise civilian safety and adhere to international law as Mideast anxiety intensified following the US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities using massive 'bunker buster' bombs.

Washington has violated Iranian sovereignty, 'exacerbated tensions in the
Middle East and dealt a heavy blow to the international nuclear non-proliferation regime', said China's United Nations ambassador Fu Cong at a
UN Security Council emergency meeting , its third in 10 days.
'The international community must uphold justice and make concrete efforts to cool down the situation and restore peace and stability,' Fu added.
While the council's five permanent members with veto power and 10 non-permanent members without cited the importance of ending the conflict in broad terms, their statements quickly divided along geopolitical lines, with
China and Russia defending Iran, the US and its allies defending Israel, and each side censuring the other.

While Beijing's criticism of
the US attack – a complex operation that targeted Iran's Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan sites using GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs from B-2 aircraft – was largely couched in diplomatic niceties, Moscow felt little compunction to hold back.

Trump muses about regime change in Iran after US strikes

US President Donald Trump on Sunday signalled support for a change in leadership in Iran, hours after his officials said that the US operation targeting Iranian nuclear facilities overnight was not about a regime change in Tehran. Advertisement 'It's not politically correct to use the term, 'Regime Change,' but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn't there be a Regime change???' Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. Earlier on Sunday, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told journalists at the Pentagon that the overnight strike on the nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow was carried out to eliminate the threat to US interests posed by Iran's nuclear programme, not to bring about regime change in Tehran. 'The president authorised a precision operation to neutralise the threats to our national interests posed by the Iranian nuclear programme and the collective self-defence of our troops and our ally Israel,' Hegseth said. 01:23 China urges de-escalation of Iran conflict, hits out at US and Israel China urges de-escalation of Iran conflict, hits out at US and Israel US Vice-President J.D. Sex education with monks in Bhutan and 4 other UN projects you probably didn't know about

The United Nations ' vast global system has tackled everything from delivering life-saving humanitarian aid to providing crucial peacekeeping operations in conflict zones since it was established in the wake of World War II. As the international body closes in on 80 years old, questions about its relevancy and efficiency have sharpened from supporters and critics alike. Recent US cuts to foreign assistance and the re-evaluation of humanitarian contributions by other countries have forced a reckoning for the UN. The organisation has long sought to highlight its unique role as the meeting place of global leaders, with an ambitious mandate to prevent another world war. UN workers, however, say it does more than respond to civilians' needs in war zones and debate resolutions in the Security Council. 'The things that are not on the radar of anyone, that nobody sees every day, that's what we do everywhere, in more than 150 countries,' said Diene Keita, executive director for programmes at the UN's population agency. Here are five things the UN does that you may not have known:
