Saudi Interior Ministry: Hajj Pilgrims Successfully Transported to Mina after Friday's Rituals
Security spokesman of the Saudi Interior Ministry Talal Shalhoub announced on Friday that Hajj pilgrims were successfully transported to Mina after performing the ritual stoning of the devil and the ifada tawaf of the holy Kaaba in Makkah.
Speaking at a press briefing, he stressed that the security forces continue to perform their duties in protecting the pilgrims and ensuring their safety as they carry out the sacred rituals.
He urged the pilgrims to continue to respect instructions that organize their movements and to abide by timeframes.
For pilgrims seeking to depart on the second day of Tashriq, he urged them to remain in their tents until their departure times.
He revealed that authorities have so far busted 436 unlicensed Hajj campaigns and arrested 462 individuals for helping violators of the Hajj.
The spokesman underscored the Interior Ministry's continued security and organizational efforts to ensure the safety of the pilgrims as they complete their holy journey.

Kingdom arrests 12,066 illegals in one week
RIYADH: Saudi authorities arrested 12,066 people in one week for breaching residency, work and border security regulations, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday. A total of 7,333 people were arrested for violations of residency laws, while 3,060 were held over illegal border crossing attempts, and a further 1,673 for labor-related issues. The report showed that among the 1,206 people arrested for trying to enter the Kingdom illegally, 65 percent were Ethiopian, 32 percent Yemeni, and 3 percent were of other nationalities. A further 71 people were caught trying to cross into neighboring countries, and 21 were held for involvement in transporting and harboring violators, the SPA reported. The Ministry of Interior said that anyone found to be facilitating illegal entry to the Kingdom, including providing transportation and shelter, could face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years, a fine of up to SR1 million ($260,000), as well as confiscation of vehicles and property. Suspected violations can be reported on the toll-free number 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions, and 999 or 996 in other regions of the Kingdom.

Syria's security forces have detained Wassim al-Assad, a cousin of toppled leader Bashar al-Assad, state news agency SANA said on Saturday. Wassim al-Assad was sanctioned by the United States in 2023 for leading a paramilitary force backing Assad's army and for trafficking drugs including the amphetamine-like drug captagon, Reuters said. Bashar al-Assad was toppled by the opposition factions in December and fled to Moscow. Most of his family members and inner circle either fled Syria or went underground.
