Springfield street set to close for water main relocation, railroad project

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A portion of North Grand Avenue in Springfield will be closed for an estimated five weeks so that a water main can be relocated.
Beginning Monday, May 5, the CWLP Water Department will close North Grand Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets. During the road closure, crews will relocate 2,000 feet of 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvements Project.
IL lawmakers announce $157M in funding toward Springfield rail project
The CWLP said this project is the largest piece of the multi-year Springfield Rail Improvements Project so far for the Water Department. Relocating the water main is estimated to cost $4.8 million. Three more phases are planned for the North Grand Avenue underpass, which are expected to be done by the fall. This current project is expected to take five weeks.
Traffic will be closed until surface pavement repairs are done. The CWLP asks that motorists plan alternate routes to avoid delays and slow down around work zones.

SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two grants worth more than $900,000 were approved in Tuesday night's Sangamon County Board meeting, which aim to help low-income families with energy costs. During the meeting, the resolutions were to approve grant applications for community resources from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the Weatherization Grant Program for the amounts of $628,554 and $365,951, respectively. In total, these grants are worth $994,505. Springfield School District invites chefs to submit recipes, create new menu options These resolutions were consolidated with two other resolutions, which were grant applications for the Sangamon County Child Advocacy Center from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority to provide coordinated investigations into child abuse. The amounts of these two grants are $296,556.91 and $233,203, bringing the four consolidated grants total to more than $1.5 million. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — After 12 years in town, Pandamonium Doughnuts in Champaign is closing towards the end of the month. In an Instagram post Wednesday night, the donut shop put out a statement announcing that they will be closing near the end of June. In the statement, the business said the decision came from a desire to spend more time with family. Cat cafe opening soon in Champaign 'We've poured our hearts into this journey, but now, we're ready to shift our focus to a new chapter — one centered on family, connection, and being fully present for those we love most,' part of the statement read. 'This journey, which began over 12 years ago in our home kitchen with nothing more than a doughnut obsession has been one of the greatest adventures of our lives.' At this time, the shop does not have a concrete 'last day' set but it will fall sometime around the last week of June or first week of July.
