Katy Perry Will Head to Space with Historic Blue Origin All-Women Flight

Pop star Katy Perry will head to space as a part of an upcoming all-women flight on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket.
The "Firework' singer will be joined by Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos's fiancee Lauren Sanchez, CBS presenter Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Blue Origin said this is the first all-women space flight to take place since the Soviet Union's Valentina Tereshkova's solo mission in 1963.
There is no specific date for the launch, but Blue Origin said it would take place this spring.
Perry is scheduled to be on her Lifetimes Tour from April 23 until November 11, so this trip is expected to take place before that.
"If you had told me I'd be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child," Perry said in a statement.
The NS-31 mission will be the 11th human spaceflight for the New Shepard rocket and the 31st in its history. So far, the programme has launched 52 people into space.
A trip on the New Shepard typically lasts about 11 minutes, according to Blue Origin.
It is fully autonomous - which means there are no pilots - and takes the passengers past the Karman line, internationally recognised as the edge of space.
Blue Origin credited Lauren Sanchez for bringing the mission together, saying in its press release that she is "honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come".
Sanchez first announced her plan to fly with an all-women crew on a Blue Origin rocket in 2023 in an interview with Vogue, saying they were "paving the way for women".
This is the latest group of celebrities to embark on a space flight.
Bezos himself flew on the company's first manned mission in 2021. Good Morning America's co-host Michael Strahan and Star Trek actor William Shatner have also been blasted into space on one of Bezos's rockets.
Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Galactic, made a trip aboard his company's VSS Unity spacecraft in July 2021. SpaceX founder Elon Musk, however, is yet to make a trip.

SpaceX Starship Explodes on Test Stand in Texas

Taarek Refaat An uncrewed prototype of SpaceX's Starship rocket exploded on the launch pad at the company's Starbase facility in Texas during pre-flight preparations late Wednesday, dealing another setback to Elon Musk's ambitions of interplanetary travel. A video circulating online shows a massive fireball engulfing the stainless steel rocket as it stood on the test stand, followed by towering plumes of flame and smoke lighting up the night sky. In a statement, SpaceX confirmed that the vehicle suffered a "major anomaly" during preparations for what would have been its 10th test flight. The company said no one was injured and that local residents were not at risk. The cause and full extent of the damage remain unclear, but the incident adds to a growing list of challenges facing the Starship program — a centerpiece of both NASA's Artemis initiative to return astronauts to the Moon and Musk's long-term vision of colonizing Mars. Just last month, a Starship test vehicle broke apart mid-flight after losing control due to a fuel leak — the third consecutive failure in the current phase of testing. SpaceX has yet to conduct a fully successful orbital mission of the spacecraft. Musk has repeatedly described Starship as a breakthrough platform capable of delivering satellites, cargo, and eventually humans to the Moon and Mars. He has said he plans to launch an uncrewed mission to Mars by 2026, potentially carrying autonomous Tesla-made robots as part of a precursor mission. But the repeated failures raise questions about timelines, funding priorities, and internal decision-making at SpaceX. Industry observers are watching closely to see how Musk will adjust course — both technically and strategically — to restore momentum. 'Starship is a bold engineering challenge, but delays like these signal the immense complexity of scaling up reusable deep-space transport,' said one aerospace analyst. As SpaceX races to meet NASA deadlines and fend off growing competition from rival space programs, the Starship explosion is a stark reminder of the risks inherent in pushing the frontiers of human spaceflight. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Eric Dane Walks First Red Carpet Since ALS Diagnosis, Vows to Keep Acting: "It Always Feels Great to Be on Set"

Yara Sameh Eric Dane arrived at Amazon MGM's premiere of 'Countdown' in Los Angeles on Wednesday, marking his first red carpet appearance since announcing that he had been diagnosed with ALS. 'I feel good,' Dane told Variety. 'It's nice to be here with everybody and see the hours and hours of work that we put into this come alive on screen.' Dane joined his 'Countdown' co-stars Jensen Ackles, Jessica Camacho, Elliot Knight, Violett Beane, and Uli Latukefu, along with series creator and executive producer Derek Haas, for the premiere at the Harmony Gold Theater. The actor is also preparing for HBO's 'Euphoria,' returning for the drama series' long-awaited third season. While Dane hasn't shot any scenes yet, he affirmed that production is underway. 'You're going to get more of the same, which I think, for that show, is a good thing,' Dane said about the coming episodes. 'We're moving right along. I don't know exactly what it is I'm doing, per se, but I trust [creator] Sam Levinson with every fiber of my being.' As for other projects on the horizon, Dane said he was determined to keep acting even with his diagnosis: 'It always feels great to be on a set. It's great to be employed. I love what I give. I'm going to keep doing it.' The evening marked Dane's first public outing since the broadcast of his emotional ' Good Morning America ' interview with Diane Sawyer in which he revealed he now only has 'one functioning arm.' 'My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,' he noted, adding that his left arm has been getting weaker as well. 'I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won't have my left hand either. It's sobering.' The 52-year-old 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Euphoria' star was diagnosed in April. He first started having symptoms a year and a half ago when he began to experience weakness in his right hand. ALS is a fatal, progressive, degenerative disease that breaks down the nerves in the body, weakening muscles and causing eventual paralysis, impacting patients' ability to breathe, speak, and move. There is currently no cure. Dane has affirmed that he wants to continue with his career: 'I am ready and willing to do just about anything, but I have limitations that I understand will preclude me from playing certain roles,' the actor said. 'I'm working on 'Euphoria.' I finished 'Countdown.' As far as that goes, I'm pretty capable.' The first three episodes of 'Countdown' premiere on Prime Video on June 25. New episodes will follow weekly ahead of the season finale on September 3. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Tyler Perry Accused of Sexual Assault in $260 Million Lawsuit

Yara Sameh US film and TV giant Tyler Perry is being sued for alleged sexual assault, battery, and workplace sexual harassment by an actor who worked with Perry for years. According to the complaint, Derek Dixon accused Perry of creating "a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic" between them while he was starring on the filmmaker's shows "The Oval" and "Ruthless", on which Dixon starred as a character named Dale. The complaint accused Perry of "initially promising him career advancement and creative opportunities, such as producing his pilot and casting him in his show, only to subject him to escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation when Mr. Dixon did not reciprocate Mr. Perry's unwanted advances." In response, Matthew Boyd, Perry's lawyer, said the lawsuit is a 'shakedown.' 'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,' he said. 'But Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.' Dixon claimed he met Perry in September 2019 when working the opening party for Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Dixon alleged that, over the next few months, Perry often texted him, sometimes with suggestive advances, but also that he wanted to find Dixon a job and change his life. In November 2019, Dixon claimed Perry offered him a small role on "Ruthless". Dixon claimed that Perry sexually assaulted him at Perry's home in January 2020, and the next month, he offered Dixon a series regular role on "The Oval", the complaint states. The actor alleged that upon reading the script for his first season, he discovered his character's fate was left up in the air in the finale. "Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon's character would 'die' in the next season," the complaint alleged. "Indeed, Dixon's character 'Dale' was shot four times in the chest at the end of his first season on 'The Oval,' and Perry always held this over Mr. Dixon's head, implying that 'Dale' would survive if Dixon kept Perry 'happy.'" Dixon recounted a moment after filming the scene in which his character was shot, Perry invited him to his trailer, where he allegedly pinned him to the wall of his trailer and began aggressively groping Dixon's backside in a sexual motion. In the complaint, The actor claimed he was similarly groped during a cast trip to the Bahamas in October 2020. Dixon alleged that in December 2020 he visited a physician who indicated that Dixon's "exhibited severe symptoms of acute stress, insomnia, stomach issues, and dangerously low cortisol levels due to the sexual harassment and assault" and prescribed him Zoloft, an antidepressant. Dixon claimed Perry invited him to his house again in June 2021 to discuss Dixon's pilot for his show "Losing It", which Perry had expressed interest in producing. He alleged he was again sexually assaulted by Perry at this meeting. Over the next five months, Dixon said he "suffered from severe depression, anxiety, stomach pains, and nausea" and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the alleged incidents. Dixon claimed that Perry's "fixers" offered him a raise to return to "The Oval" and that Perry would buy the right to produce his show, "Losing It". Dixon informed Perry in January 2023 that he was moving to California to "put some distance" between them. Dixon continued to star on "The Oval" but left during the show's final season, a move he claimed resulted in him losing out on close to $400,000. According to the complaint, the actor is suing Perry for sexual harassment, sexual battery, sexual assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, retaliation, and more. He is requesting a jury trial and for damages of $260 million. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
