LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Kentucky Football head coach Mark Stoops spoke with the media Tuesday as the Wildcats get set for spring practice.
'Obviously, we know the season did not go the way any of us wanted to. Certainly, our players, our staff, and myself,' Stoops said. 'Since that day, you know, truly, the next morning it feels like we have not stopped. And that's a good thing. It's an exciting time.'

Some big games are ahead in the SEC this week. Here's where Kentucky comes into play
Mikaylah Williams has strong second half as No. 7 LSU rallies over No. 14 Kentucky 65-58
After a 4-8 season in 2024, the program has seen a lot of departures and arrivals from both the coaching staff and players. The Cats have 31 new players on their roster; 20 of those came via the transfer portal, and the other 11 are early enrollees from the high school class of 2025.
'Couldn't be more pleased with what they've done thus far. You know, and just the attitude that they've had in the weight room, attacking the weight room,' Stoops said. 'We just had our first fourth-quarter program where we're really pushing them mentally. and, physically.'
Kentucky swung and missed on some portal additions they brought in a year ago, so this time around the coaching staff has put an emphasis on each position group being more balanced.

'You know, we weren't deep enough at certain positions,' Stoops said. 'So, we're hanging our hat on specific, you know, people, and maybe they were injured, or maybe, they failed to meet our expectations, and it didn't work out.'
The team is yet to announce the schedule for spring practice or if there will be a Blue-White Spring Game in 2025.

'I DID IT!': Ken McPeek Marks Derby-Oaks Double With Tattoo

'I DID IT!': Ken McPeek Marks Derby-Oaks Double With Tattoo originally appeared on Paulick Report. Trainer Ken McPeek made history last year when he pulled off the Kentucky Oaks-Derby double, winning with Thorpedo Anna and Mystik Dan. Now, the veteran Lexington, Ky., horseman has permanently marked the accomplishment — with a tattoo. Advertisement 'I always said that if I ever won the Kentucky Derby, I would get a Tattoo. Derby Oaks Double 2024. I DID IT!!,' McPeek said in a post on X. Some commenters on the post questioned whether the tattoo was real—or if it was even McPeek in the photo. But the trainer quickly shut down the speculation with a follow-up post. 'If you have any doubts, this isn't AI,' McPeek wrote. To further put doubts to rest, McPeek used X's AI tool, Grok, to respond to a now-deleted comment. The tool analyzed the image and confirmed its authenticity, noting that the tattoo celebrated McPeek's 2024 Kentucky Derby and Oaks victories and aligned with verified historical records. No evidence suggested the image was AI-generated. For the most part, the online response was overwhelmingly supportive and positive. Jockey Rajiv Maragh even joined in with a playful question. McPeek was the first trainer to pull off the Oaks-Derby double since 1952, when the legendary Ben Jones achieved it with Real Delight in the Oaks and Hill Gail in the Derby — both ridden by Hall of Famer Eddie Arcaro. Jones also won both races in 1949, and Herbert "Derby Dick" Thompson accomplished the fear in 1933. Advertisement Looking ahead, both of McPeek's stars will return to action at Churchill Downs next Saturday. Thorpedo Anna will aim to bounce back in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis, while Mystik Dan will try to make it two in a row in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster. Both races are 'Win and You're In' qualifiers for the Breeders' Cup Distaff and Classic, respectively. This story was originally reported by Paulick Report on Jun 22, 2025, where it first appeared.

Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas has been hospitalized and will not return to training, family says

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Hall of Fame horse racing trainer D. Wayne Lukas has been hospitalized and will not return to training, Churchill Downs announced Sunday after speaking with members of his family. Lukas' family said the 89-year-old has battled a severe infection that has worsened and that he has declined an aggressive treatment plan to instead return home. His horses have been transferred to assistant trainer Sebastian 'Bas' Nicholl. 'Wayne built a legacy that will never be matched,' Nicholl said. 'Every decision I make, every horse I saddle, I'll hear his voice in the back of my mind. This isn't about filling his shoes — no one can. It's about honoring everything that he's built.' Lukas is one of the most accomplished people in the history of the sport. His 15 Triple Crown victories are second only to good friend Bob Baffert, and Lukas has a record-tying 20 in the Breeders Cup. He won the Kentucky Derby four times since 1988. His most recent victory in the Triple Crown came last year with Seize the Grey in the Preakness, his seventh — one short of Baffert's record. 'Wayne is one of the greatest competitors and most important figures in Thoroughbred racing history,' Churchill Downs president Mike Anderson said. 'He transcended the sport of horse racing and took the industry to new levels. The lasting impact of his character and wisdom, from his acute horsemanship to his unmatched attention to detail, will be truly missed. The enormity of this news is immense, and our prayers are with his family and friends around the world during this difficult time.' ___ AP horse racing:
