Eid-ul-Zuha 2025: Schools, Colleges In Kerala To Remain Closed On June 7
The Kerala government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the state on Friday and Saturday (June 7) in view of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid). However, government offices will remain open on Friday, as the official public holiday has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 7, in accordance with the revised festival date.
The holiday was earlier set for June 6 but had to be postponed after the moon was not sighted in time, causing the observance of the festival by a day.
Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state general secretary PMA Salam said the decision to grant a holiday to educational institutions on Friday came after strong public opposition.
"The government gave in to public pressure. Instead of announcing a general holiday for all government institutions, it restricted the leave to educational institutions. Government offices should have been included," he said.
In a Facebook post, he added, "The cancellation of the previously declared Eid holiday led to protests. The Muslim League demanded that Friday be declared a holiday for all government offices, not just educational institutions."

Kozhikode: A day after the closely-watched and politically-significant Nilambur bypoll, UDF and LDF camps pored over internal booth-level estimates collected from the field and concluded that the outcome would be a favourable one. While UDF reviewed its estimates and claimed that the front would secure a huge majority, LDF came out with a cautious estimate expecting a narrow victory margin. UDF claimed it would win by a big margin of around 10,000 votes. Early projections from both camps estimated his vote share at 10,000 votes, but LDF sources now believe Anvar could secure well beyond that number, mainly by drawing support from UDF voters. The BJP is expected to get around 7,000 votes, while SDPI is likely to garner around 2,500 votes. For LDF and UDF, the stakes are high. Winning this bypoll will boost morale and set the tone for the upcoming local body elections and the 2026 assembly polls. Enforce slaughter ban: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to district admins
Guwahati: Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a stern directive to the district administrations on Friday, asking them to enforce the ban on cow slaughter within a five-kilometre radius of any Hindu religious sites, in accordance to the Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021. The chief minister's directive comes in the wake of multiple incidents where animal body parts were found near places of worship in Dhubri, Goalpara, Jorhat, Lakhimpur districts, and with a fresh incident being reported from Hojai district. Addressing the issue during a press conference in Lok Sabha Bhawan, Sarma said, "In the past few days, especially after Ei-ul-zuha. We have seen several attempts to create unrest. We have observed that such incidents often occur in sensitive areas, mostly in places where beef consumption during Eid is common. As per the law, within a five kilometre radius, of a temple or Namghar, consumption, slaughter or sale of beef is completely prohibited. But, during this year's Eid, this provision was not strictly enforced by the district administration, as a result locals were not alerted or informed, if they had been made aware of the five kilometre restriction, these incidents might have been avoided. All these incidents happened within the said radius of the namghars and temples. Therefore, the district administrations have been directed to strictly implement the cattle preservation act." The CM added that a standard operating procedures would be handed to the district administrations which to help ensure that no such incidents happen again.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed concerns over recent incidents involving alleged cow slaughter and beef consumption near religious sites during Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations.
