Kim Cattrall reveals why she initially turned down Sex and the City role

Mint6 days ago

Washington [US], June 15 (ANI): Kim Cattrall, the actress behind the iconic character Samantha Jones in HBO's 'Sex and the City,' recently opened up about her initial hesitation to take on the role.
As per Deadline, in a candid conversation, Cattrall shared that she turned down the part not once, not twice, but four times before finally agreeing to join the show.
Her reason? "Self-inflicted ageism," stemming from her concerns about playing a sexually confident character at the age of 41.
Cattrall explained that her mindset shifted over time, and she eventually came to realise that 40 could indeed be "alluring".
"Well, that changed. 40 became sexy. It became, 'Man, let's have more of that,'" she said, reflecting on her decision to join the show, as quoted by Deadline.
Cattrall's portrayal of Samantha Jones, a character known for her unapologetic attitude toward sex and relationships, became a defining role in her career.
Cattrall described Samantha as a woman who enjoyed life on her own terms, and said, "She wasn't a nymphomaniac, well, some people might have thought she was, but she was just enjoying the main course. Everyone else was nibbling on the appetisers when she was going for the steak. And it was always on her terms, that I always insisted on."
Despite the character's bold personality, Cattrall noted that she is the antithesis of Samantha in many ways, identifying herself as a "serial monogamist."
Cattrall expressed her gratitude for having played Samantha Jones, and said, "I created a fantastic character that I loved, and I put a lot of love in it. And if I'm remembered only for that, then that's really OK."
The show, which aired from 1998 to 2004, has had a lasting impact on popular culture, inspiring numerous spin-offs, including 'The Carrie Diaries' and 'And Just Like That...,' the latter of which premiered on HBO Max in 2021.
Although Cattrall chose not to reunite with her co-stars in 'And Just Like That...,' she did make a special appearance in the season 2 finale, reprising her role as Samantha Jones. (ANI)

Kaalidhar Laapata trailer: Abhishek Bachchan gives life second chance with unusual friend in tale of abandonment, hope

After entertaining audiences with Housefull 5, actor Abhishek Bachchan will soon be seen in a new film titled Kaalidhar Laapata. (Also Read: Abhishek Bachchan: 'Every director I met said they didn't want to take the responsibility of launching me') Abhishek Bachchan's stills from his upcoming movie Kaalidhar Laapata. Directed by Madhumita, Kaalidhar Laapata stars Abhishek as Kaalidhar--a middle-aged man grappling with memory loss, abandonment and a lifetime of quiet betrayals. When he overhears his siblings' cruel plan to abandon him at the crowded Maha Kumbh Mela, Kaalidhar decides to disappear on his own terms. Fate intervenes in the form of Ballu (Daivik Bhagela), an outspoken, street-smart 8-year-old who's been surviving solo on India's chaotic streets. What begins as a chance meeting becomes the beginning of something far more profound. Abhishek Bachchan on playing Kaalidhar Sharing his experience working in the film, Abhishek in a press note said, "As actors, we often hope for stories that move us before they move anyone else--and Kaalidhar Laapata did exactly that. Playing Kaalidhar was not just a role, it was a revelation. He's fragile, childlike and deeply human--and through him, I got to explore parts of myself I hadn't visited in a while. His bond with Ballu--this fierce, fearless child--reminded me that the most unexpected friendships can sometimes teach us the most profound lessons." He added, "More than anything, it made me reflect on how we measure life--not in years, but in moments of connection, courage, and truth. Kaaldihar Laapata is another film in my journey that I feel incredibly proud of. Over the past few years, I've been consciously seeking stories that offer emotional depth, honesty, and something meaningful to say--and this one ticked every box. It's a story that touched my soul, and I hope it touches yours too." Director Madhumita also opened up about directing 'Kaalidhar Laapata'. "With Kaalidhar Laapata, I wanted to tell a story that feels both intimate and universal. It gave me a canvas to explore themes like abandonment, dignity, and the redemptive power of human connection. Kaalidhar is someone many of us have encountered or perhaps even been at some point--a person sidelined by life yet still glowing with a quiet resilience. Ballu becomes his mirror, his spark, his unexpected anchor. One of the most beautiful surprises of this film was witnessing the on-screen chemistry between Abhishek and Daivik--tender, unfiltered, and deeply moving. Their dynamic brings a refreshing honesty that stays with you long after the film ends. Through their journey, we've tried to reflect the idea that even in the most fractured chapters of life, beauty, meaning, and belonging can still be found. For me, this isn't just a film--it's a gentle meditation on what it means to be truly seen and truly accepted," Madhumita said. Kaalidhar Laapata will be out on ZEE5 on 4th July. (ANI)

James Gunn On The Batman 2 Delay: "Let The Guy Write The Screenplay..."

Washington: DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has expressed his annoyance with the intense scrutiny surrounding 'The Batman II', directed by Matt Reeves. Despite the film's delayed production, Gunn remains optimistic about the project, emphasising the importance of allowing Reeves the time he needs to craft a quality screenplay. As per Deadline, in an interview, Gunn revealed that DC Studios is expecting to receive the script for 'The Batman II' in June. "We're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt's excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I'm totally excited about it," he said, as quoted by Deadline. Gunn bluntly stated that fans should be patient and not pressure Reeves. "People should get off Matt's n--s because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie." He added that Reeves doesn't let the pressure affect him. Gunn's 'Superman' film, set to premiere on July 11, will launch a new DCU phase, separate from Reeves' 'Batman Epic Crime Saga'. This saga includes 'The Batman' (2022) and the Max series spin-off 'The Penguin'. Reeves confirmed that 'The Batman II' will start filming this year, with Robert Pattinson set to reprise his role as Batman. Despite the delay, fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which is currently scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2027.
