1000 Miglia Returns With Iconic Route, Expanded Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The 1000 Miglia is set to return from June 17 to 21, with 420 classic cars tackling a 1,900-kilometre (km) route across Italy in a five-day event that echoes the spirit of its epic pre-war editions.
Departing from Viale Venezia in Brescia, this year's route forms a symbolic figure-eight, connecting the eastern Adriatic and western Tyrrhenian coasts while preserving the classic Brescia-Rome-Brescia path.
Highlights include stopovers in San Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna), Rome, Cervia-Milano Marittima, and Parma, before the grand return to Brescia for a final parade in Piazza Vittoria, coinciding with Festa della Musica.
Meanwhile, the passage through the Naval Academy in Livorno will seal the partnership with the Italian Navy, showing the collaboration and closeness that the Armed Forces and Police have always reserved for the 1000 Miglia.
The 1000 Miglia 2025 convoy will be preceded by 123 Ferraris from the Tribute 1000 Miglia and 1000 Miglia Green electric cars, accompanied by the Politecnico di Milano's robo-driven cars reflecting on the introduction of autonomous driving for optimising urban transport.
The pre-race programme started on June 15 with the inauguration of the 1000 Miglia Village in the historic setting of Piazza Vittoria featuring children from the 'La 1000 Miglia goes to school' project that decorate the car dedicated to the initiative, travelling behind the convoy.
Furthermore, the 1000 Miglia Charity Car, with La Zebra Onlus, will raise public awareness of the purchase of a latest-generation ultrasound scanner to be donated to the Children's Hospital in Brescia.

Mohd Hilmizudin Daud, 34, who is based at the Johor Bureau, did not expect that debris from the explosion would damage his Perodua Kelisa, which was parked about 100 metres from the scene. He said the debris broke the left-side wing mirror and left dents and scratches on the same side of the car. Mohd Hilmizudin, a father of one who is expecting a second child in early July, said he had no choice but to come to terms with the damage to the car that had been his faithful companion on countless assignments for the past three years. 'I only realised my car was damaged around 7 pm after I had completed my assignment. While I was shooting, there were many explosions and barrels even flew into the air, which I managed to capture. 'When I reached my car and started the engine to reverse, I noticed the left wing mirror was missing. Initially, I thought it had been folded back because someone might have leaned against the car,' he told Bernama. Mohd Hilmizudin said he had rushed to the scene with his colleague, reporter Nur Fadhliana Shaari, at around 2 pm after being informed of the incident. He was relieved that they were not injured while at the scene. 'This is the first time something like this has happened in my 11 years as a Bernama photographer.

Tesla To Build Grid-side Energy Storage Station In Shanghai
SHANGHAI, June 21 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- US carmaker Tesla on Friday inked a deal with Chinese partners to build a grid-side energy storage station in Shanghai using its Megapack energy-storage batteries, reported Xinhua. The deal, with a total investment of 4 billion yuan (about US$556 million), marked Tesla's expansion into China's burgeoning energy storage market, paving the way for its facility to connect with the country's vast power grid, the largest in the world. The gigawatt-hour-scale energy storage station is to be located in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, as per the deal signed by Tesla, the administrative committee of the Lin-gang Special Area, the people's government of Shanghai's Fengxian District, and China Kangfu International Leasing Co Ltd.

JISA Special Op To Audit 500 Bus And Lorry Operators Starting Monday
BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will conduct audits on 500 operators of public service vehicles (PSV) and high-risk goods commercial vehicles (GCV) through the nationwide JPJ Inspection & Safety Audit (JISA) Special Operation, starting Monday. Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the operation was carried out in line with the directive from the Transport Minister Anthony Loke to investigate PSV and GCV operators to ensure compliance with the audit process stipulated under the Land Public Transport Act (APAD). He said the main focus of the operation is to assess the company's compliance level with safety aspects, vehicle maintenance, driver management, and compliance records under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations. "The enforcement of the JISA Special Op involves the implementation of Safety Inspection and Audit Reports that focus on compliance with the Industrial Code of Practice (ICOP) regarding safety in the transportation industry. "Additionally, there will be the review and resolution of outstanding issues for vehicle owners and drivers, as well as compliance with the Vehicle Technical Plan," he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Programme 2025 presentation ceremony here today. Aedy Fadly emphasised that the action was taken following the recent frequent accidents involving heavy vehicles, including the bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students on June 9. Commenting further, he said his team had also identified the list of involved companies obtained from the APAD and JPJ list through a review of outstanding summonses. "Based on statistics, the JPJ has identified a category of high-risk operators, which includes 300 lorries, 100 tour buses and 100 express buses," he also said. He added that strict action will be taken against any operator found to be violating regulations or neglecting safety aspects, including issuing notices of violation, suspension, or cancellation of vocational driving licenses (PSV/GDL) or company operator licences.
