Betfred slot game winner pockets £11.5million - and has a heartwarming plan
Arron Freeman, 44, bagged a £11.5million jackpot and received the biggest payout in Betfred's 58-year-history after playing an online slot game with a stake of just £1.50
A scaffolder has been unmasked as the winner of a record-breaking £11.5m jackpot on an online slot game. Dad-of-two Arron Freeman, 44, is said to have scooped the prize money after putting a £1.50 stake on Betfred's online slot game Mega Moolah.
The life-changing win, which occurred on Thursday June 5, is the biggest payout in the company's 58-year history. Despite becoming a multi-millionaire, Mr Freeman, who runs ASL Scaffolding, says he wants to sell his story so he can build a homeless shelter. In a press statement released after the win - in which Mr Freeman was not named - it emerged the winner opened an account after a family night out and decided to give the online casino a go.
It was then he turned a £1.50 spin into £11,498,211.89 on the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot game. Betfred founder Fred Done called him to offer his congratulations and invited him to Old Trafford as his guest.
Betfred's newest multi-millionaire was quoted as saying: 'It's still sinking in, but it was class of Fred to phone me. He told me to look after my cash and that is my plan. I'm looking forward to meeting Fred at a Manchester United home game. Hopefully, we will both celebrate if the reds win."
He added: 'I've been a horse racing punter my whole life and hit the crossbar a few times with some of my accas but obviously never hit the jackpot like this. It was the missus' idea that we gave the casino a go and we certainly got lucky. I love racing so I will still have a bet on the horses, but it will still be my normal small stakes.'
Mr Freeman is in a relationship with Kelly Dighton, who runs a TikTok page, @kelly.dighton, where she shares daily updates on her progress as a recovering addict. She says she is more than 100 days clean.
Mr Freeman shared a post on Facebook in April expressing support for his partner. He shared one of her posts, commenting: "What can I say apart from I'm so proud of you, my beautiful woman! You're getting stronger by the day, which is making me stronger by the day! Please share this and make people aware."
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, Mr Freeman said: "I am in shock, but I am not gonna say too much at the minute. Basically, I am going to sell my story to the highest bidder. The money the highest bidder gives me is going to be put towards building a homeless shelter, so it's going to go to a good cause."
Ms Dighton's parents run the Lake Lothing Public House on Rotterdam Road in Lowestoft, Suffolk. Man United fan Mr Freeman is understood to have been living between there and his father's house in Mulbarton, Norfolk.
A friend, who wished to remain anonymous, reportedly said: 'Aaron is still in shock, and it hasn't really set in. Of course, it is a life-changing amount of money, so it's something I think he is coming to terms with. He is a father, and I think he's still trying to get his head around it. I think he and his partner are off on holiday and are going to take some time to decide their options."
'He's a sensible chap and is planning to invest some of his winnings into property for his family,' said Betfred founder Mr Done. 'But not before enjoying a holiday of a lifetime." Mr Done also advised the jackpot winner to never gamble again.
The record-breaking payout is more than double of the previous biggest win at Betfred, when in 2023 Michael Clark from Newcastle scooped £5.4m. Mega Moolah is a safari-themed jackpot slot that has five reels and 25 paylines. The minimum bet is 25p per spin.
With doubling wild wins and a Free Spins feature with a trebling multiplier, it's all about the Progressive Jackpot Bonus Game where you spin to wheel to guarantee 1 of 4 progressive jackpots.

Antony ready to take drastic action in bid to quit Man Utd for dream transfer
Manchester United and Antony want to part ways and the Brazilian winger is happy to make a sacrifice to facilitate a transfer in the coming weeks following his Real Betis loan Manchester United wantaway star Antony is prepared to take a 30 per cent paycut to leave Old Trafford this summer. The winger's decision has boosted the hopes of interested parties, namely Real Betis, of being able to complete a deal. Antony is said to currently rake in £150,000-a-week with the Red Devils and is willing to lower his expectations to facilitate a move. The drop would still see him ask for £95,000-a-week. United are hoping to bring in a fee for the former Ajax winger to boost their funds this summer, with the club requiring £32.58million to avoid a loss under the profit and sustainability rules. That figure is well short of the £85m United spent in 2022. Antony failed to make an impression following Ruben Amorim's arrival but found a new lease of life in Spain after making a loan move to Betis in January. The Brazilian registered 14 goal contributions in 26 games to help the club reach the Conference League final. Both Betis and Antony have expressed their desire to make the move permanent but there have been doubts that the La Liga side could afford such a deal. But Antony is willing to reduce his salary, per the MEN, which could prove pivotal. Antony has made his preference to return to Betis clear. "I love the club, the city, everything. The sunshine, the people, the food: it reminds me of Brazil," he said previously. "And most importantly, I've found myself. I wasn't playing much [at Manchester United ]. I needed to be happy in myself." Amorim is impatient to see new signings this summer, with the pace of United's transfer business this summer not quite yet kicking into gear. The Red Devils have added Matheus Cunha to their squad but have not made much progress on incoming or outgoing transfers. Amorim wants new players on the plane for United's three-game tour of the United States The United boss sees the tour as the ideal environment to integrate new players and to learn his system. The 40-year-old also wants United to offload players he does not want as quickly as possible. None of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony feature in his plans. Rashford wants to move to Barcelona, while Sancho has drawn interest from Italy after seeing his permanent move to Chelsea cancelled. The Blues paid a penalty to go back on their agreement with United.

Marcus Rashford issues Barcelona come-and-get-me plea in clear hint over future
Marcus Rashford has been tight-lipped on his uncertain future so far this summer but now the Manchester United star has broken his silence, hinting at a dream move to Barcelona Marcus Rashford has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to join Barcelona. The Manchester United star, 27, appears to have no future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim and being loaned out for the second half of last season. Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was seen meeting Barca sporting director Deco in Catalunya last month. The England international joined Aston Villa on loan in January but the Premier League club look to have seemingly decided against exercising their option to sign him for £40million. That's the fee which United are continuing to hold out for and if no buyer is found, he'll return to United for pre-season training and their subsequent tour of the United States. But if Barcelona can work out a deal, Rashford has already given them the green light. Speaking while on holiday in Marbella, Rashford was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he wants to play with Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future. "Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best," the forward replied. "So hopefully, we'll see..." Continuing to praise Yamal, Rashford said: (Yamal) is gonna be… it's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing it at 16, 17. He's playing at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it. To have his mentality is a skill. "He's not normal to be doing what he does and he will keep improving. (The Ballon d'Or) If you look at it in football ability he has to win, but then you look at Ousmane Dembele, the Champions League." The 27-year-old then sent a message to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, suggesting that he can be Robert Lewandowski's long-term successor up front. "For me as I've got older, the No.9 position is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford added. Would Marcus Rashford be a success at Barcelona? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Barca fans will also be take note of his comments about life in Spain. "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home," he continued. "If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather." Rashford also revealed how he looked up to former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry during his childhood. He explained: "Henry was comfortable playing off the left and in the middle, he's free flowing. When I was young I always enjoyed watching clips of him." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Why Manchester United are now doing their shopping closer to home
P erhaps this sauntered into your social media feed this week: Matheus Cunha, playing five-a-side on a basketball court in his hometown of João Pessoa. Showcasing skills that come straight from the gods. In a clip that went viral, Cunha beats two players and puts his foot on the ball to draw another two in, then scoops the ball through a gap and hurdles their legs to escape. The instant he lands, there's a little back heel to set up a team-mate to score. A filthy, delicious assist. Manchester United fans, understandably, revelled in the footage, but in many ways it was irrelevant, shedding little insight into why their club signed Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5million. Film they should really feast on involves Cunha scuffing home a winner against Bournemouth away in February, or passing in a straightforward finish versus Leicester City in April. He was recruited not for skills he might show in a Brazilian setting but output proven in a Premier League one.
