DFA: No info yet if Pinoys affected in US airstrikes vs Iranian nuclear sites

A view of the cityscape in the aftermath of Israeli strikes, in Tehran, Iran, June 16, 2025. Majid Asgaripour/WANA (West Asia News Agency) via REUTERS The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said they have no information if Filipinos were affected after United States forces attacked three nuclear sites in Iran, Assistant Secretary Robert Ferrer said Sunday. 'Wala pa tayong impormasyon kung may mga Pilipino dun sa mga binombang pasilidad sa Iran, but we already told our kababayans to stay away from Iranian facilities,' Ferrer told Super Radyo dzBB. (We don't have any information if there were Filipinos who were affected in the facilities that were bombed in Iran, but we already told our countrymen to stay away from Iranian facilities.) Earlier today, US President Donald Trump announced the "very successful attack" of its forces in Iran, adding that the crown jewel of Tehran's nuclear program, Fordow, is gone. Ferrer said there are 1,200 Filipinos in Iran, of whom nine have requested repatriation. 'It's very hard to move from Tehran to Turkmenistan border. It's a 13-hour drive. I think in the next few days, they will be able to do ti with God's help,' Ferrer said, noting that the Philippine Embassy in Tehran is working on the repatriation. Meanwhile, Ferrer said personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Tehran will be the last to leave the Islamic Republic and only after Filipinos wishing to return to the Philippines are taken cared of. Pinoys in Israel Ferrer also said 223 Filipinos in Israel have requested repatriation, of which 26 are leaving soon. There are about 30,000 Filipinos in the Jewish state, according to Ferrer. 'Hindi pa rin bukas ang airports (airports are still closed). The seaports are also closed. Open naman ang land border with Jordan (the border to Jordan is open). They can cross, but they have to do it through the embassy in Tel Aviv,' the official said. One Filipino remains in critical condition, while seven have been discharged from the hospital. The houses of 88 Filipinos have been damaged due to Iranian airstrikes and 80 have been resettled to safer areas. On Friday, crisis alert level 3 in Israel and Iran was raised by the Philippine government, urging Filipinos in the area to avail of voluntary repatriation as tensions continue between the two countries.

World leaders react to US attack on Iran

The reaction of world leaders after US forces struck three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday Iran time ranged from Israel lauding President Donald Trump's decision to the UN calling for de-escalation and some countries condemning the attacks. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, recorded statement "Congratulations, President Trump. Your bold decision to target Iran's nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history... History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world's most dangerous regime the world's most dangerous weapons." UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, statement "I am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today. This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge – and a direct threat to international peace and security. There is a growing risk that this conflict could rapidly get out of control – with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world. I call on Member States to de-escalate and to uphold their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law. At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace." Venezuela Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, on Telegram "Venezuela Condemns U.S. Military Aggression Against Iran and Demands an Immediate Cessation of Hostilities. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela firmly and categorically condemns the bombing carried out by the United States military, at the request of the State of Israel, against nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan complexes." Mexico Foreign Ministry, on X "The ministry urgently calls for diplomatic dialogue for peace between the parties involved in the Middle East conflict. In keeping with our constitutional principles of foreign policy and our country's pacifist conviction, we reiterate our call to de-escalate tensions in the region. The restoration of peaceful coexistence among the states of the region is the highest priority." Cuba President Miguel Diaz-Canel, on X "We strongly condemn the US bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities, which constitutes a dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. The aggression seriously violates the UN Charter and international law and plunges humanity into a crisis with irreversible consequences." —Reuters
