GAA fans furious ahead of bumper weekend of All-Ireland action
As another bumper weekend of GAA action approaches, fans have been taking to social media to voice their anger over which games are being televised on free-to-air TV and which are being shown on GAA+.
RTE will televise the two All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals of Dublin v Limerick and Galway v Tipperary on Saturday. The broadcaster will also show the Tailteann Cup semi-finals as Wicklow face Limerick and Kildare take on Fermanagh on Sunday.
However, it is the decision to show the four All-Ireland Senior Football Championship preliminary quarter-finals on GAA+ that is angering supporters ahead of the weekend, with three of the top four in the outright Championship betting in action.
Kerry host Cavan at Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday afternoon before the evening meeting of Dublin and Cork at Croke Park. Then on Sunday, Down host Galway in Newry before the clash of Donegal and Louth in Ballybofey.
"Dublin v Cork, football's biggest game of the weekend, is on a subscription channel online Sat. It's on at the same time as the biggest hurling game of the weekend on RTE. They couldn't get less people to watch the biggest football game of the weekend if they tried," stated one fan.
Another asked: "Where are the important gaelic football matches ,also known as the Preliminary Quarter Finals been Televised, Not on free to Air?"
Someone else said: "Taking all the big games this weekend, @rte and you wonder why numbers are declining . Absolute disgrace especially when your buffing the weekend schedule with re runs of west side story & all creatures great and small."
"An absolute disgrace by the GAA to put the Dublin vs. Cork match on GAA+," read another comment.

Louth boss Brennan on not getting the rub of the green with referee decisions
Ger Brennan says he's twice seen his Louth outfit on the receiving end of decisions against sides - but he's confident that won't happen against Donegal at Ballybofey tomorrow with Barry Cassidy in charge. Derry official Cassidy will take charge of the MacCumhaill Park All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final tie with the winner going to Croke Park next weekend and the loser's season over. Brennan, speaking to LMFM, outlined that Louth's Division 2 loss to Donegal last year at Ballyshannon and their All-Ireland group stage defeat by Kerry at Portlaoise later that season were games he felt the Wee County were hard done by. The match official for the Donegal game was Roscommon's Paddy Neilan, while the Kerry game was refereed by Conor Lane of Cork. 'I certainly rarely would whinge about referee's decisions as players have to be accountable for their own errors first and foremost and referees are only human,' said Brennan. 'There were certainly a lot of hometown decisions awarded in that league game in Ballyshannon last year. 'In looking towards this game in Ballybofey, in one way it's interesting that a Derry referee has been appointed to look after the game. 'But when I heard it's Barry Cassidy, you are confident with someone with Barry Cassidy's experience that he is not going to be overawed consciously or subconsciously by the Ballybofey crowd and that he will give Louth a fair crack of the whip. 'Again, I think I have a bit of credit built up in the bank over the last couple of seasons by not giving out about referees. 'When Louth played Kerry last year in the group stages of the All-Ireland, we were competitive. 'We were pushing hard and it's almost as if referees subconsciously - and people outside the group of Louth senior footballers - they can't believe that Louth are being so competitive and this shouldn't happen. 'And all of a sudden some big game decisions are going against you, or the opposition are getting away with rougher challenges, which Louth players are being punished for. 'I suppose I've seen that on two occasions in particular in my time so far with Louth, last year with Kerry in the group stages of the All-Ireland and certainly in the second half last year in Ballyshannon. 'But again, happy to see you have someone with Barry Cassidy's experience, that he is not going to be influenced by the Donegal sideline and Donegal supporters and that he's going to give Louth and the Donegal players a fair crack of the whip.'

Gavin Tiernan to face Ethan Fang in the 130th Amateur Championship final
Gavin Tiernan will take on Ethan Fang from the United States in the 36-hole final of the 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St George on Saturday. Tiernan and Fang are the final two left standing out of a field of 288 players in the prestigious championship winning their quarter-final and semi-final matches at a sunny Sandwich Bay today. Fang is ranked seventh in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and is looking to become the first American since Drew Weaver in 2007 to lift the coveted trophy. Tiernan sits 1333 places futher down the WAGR and is the first player that came through the pre-qualifying to reach the final. Tiernan had a longer week than his American counterpart having played 139-holes to reach the final. The 19 year old has been taken to the 18th hole in all three of his matches this week including his quarter-final this morning against Estonia's Richard Teder. Tiernan was behind throughout and managed to square the match with a well-timed birdie at the 16th before a bogey from Teder on the 18th allowed Tiernan to progress in the Championship. Tiernan only needed 15 holes to win his semi-final match against Italy's Riccardo Fantinelli this afternoon. It was all square at the turen before Tiernan pulled away with consistent play on the 10th, 12th, 14th, and 15th holes for a comfortable 4&3 win. Speaking after reaching the final Tiernan said 'If you'd told me at the start of the week I'd be in the final, I would have been over the moon. I'm just really enjoying it, taking it one shot at a time, and just having fun out there. That's all I'm trying to do. 'I hit it way better this afternoon. Off the tee I was way better. I hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens. I think this morning it was a little bit scrappier but this morning was tighter, as well. I wasn't up the whole match until 18 when I won. 'You don't need to go and take a ton of birdies. If you're hitting it to the middle of the green all the time, you're just going to bore them to death. That's what I've been trying to do this week, and it's worked so far. 'In my head, I'm the best player here. It might not be the truth, but that's what I believe. It doesn't really matter who I'm playing against. Really I'm just playing against the golf course. Playing against myself really.' Fang had a comfortable route to the final with a 5&4 win over Finland's Veikka Viskari in the semi-final following his morning win over France's Callixte Alzas twhere he overcame a two-down deficit to win by as many. It's just really hard not to (think about the champion's exemptions), especially because I'm 36 holes away from it. I'll just try to stay present and just do everything I've been doing. 'I took a pretty long look on that board over there with the trophies and all those names. I saw Sergio won it. It's cool to see all those professional players come out here and win it, and now I'm doing the same thing, and hopefully have their accomplishments on Tour. 'The Championship is not over, but I think after tomorrow we'll celebrate either way because it's been a good week." Tiernan and Fang will go head-to-head in the 36-hole final at 8.32am playing for the Amateur Champion title and entry to the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, the US Open and by tradition an invitation to the Masters Tournament. The winner will also earn a place at the Betfred British Masters which Nick Faldo hosts on the DP World Tour.
