Rafizi urges AGC to refile Najib's SRC charges after court grants DNAA, slams delay since 2019 despite ‘clear money trail'
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has today urged for prosecutors to refile the charges against Datuk Seri Najib Razak, after the latter was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) in the case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
The Pandan MP said he fails to understand why the prosecution has taken such an inordinate amount of time since 2019 to prepare the necessary documentation required to proceed with the trial, causing the High Court to discharge Najib.
'This is especially puzzling considering that the case relates to SRC, for which Najib is already serving a prison sentence following a conviction in an earlier case involving the same company.
'From my experience in studying and exposing the 1MDB and SRC scandals, the SRC case in particular has a more clearly established money trail,' he said in a statement here.
Rafizi said the case should not be allowed to fade from public attention due to administrative shortcomings, especially as the money trail in the SRC case is already well-documented.
The former economy minister noted that Malaysians expect the authorities to act decisively, given the public interest and Najib's conviction in a related SRC case.
'Therefore, I urge the prosecution to confirm that the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will refile the charges as soon as possible and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared so that the case can proceed without further delay.
'As a Member of Parliament, I will continue to monitor developments in this case closely to ensure it remains in the public eye,' he said.
Earlier, former prime minister Najib was granted a DNAA in his final criminal case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM27 million, after the trial has stalled since 2019.
High Court Judge K. Muniandy said the rule of law was applicable to prevent such a detrimental situation whereby an accused person is saddled with criminal charges with no outcome for an indefinite and indeterminate period.
With today's DNAA, Najib has only the 1MDB trial still pending. He is currently serving a jail term for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International funds case.
He was also previously acquitted over the removal of key information from the auditor-general's 2016 report on 1MDB; and granted a DNAA in his RM6.6 billion International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) criminal breach of trust case.

KOTA KINABALU, June 20 — A new pro-government youth movement is set to take to the streets of Kota Kinabalu this weekend to counter the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 anti-graft rally. The Gerakan Anak Muda dan Mahasiswa Anak Sabah (Gammas) has announced its intention to hold a peaceful assembly on Gaya Street, explicitly to counter what it calls the 'misrepresentation' by the student activist group Suara Mahasiswa UMS, which is organising Gempur. While the Suara Mahasiswa protest is focused on government accountability and alleged mismanagement of funds, Gammas said they will be demonstrating in support of the state leadership under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the GRS-PH coalition government. 'The main objectives of the gathering is to express support for our chief minister and the GRS-PH government to continue leading Sabah, as they have shown strong commitment to student and youth welfare,' they said. They outlined several benefits such as the Sentosa one-off RM300 assistance for students studying in Sabah, the Budi programme offering RM1,500–2,000 in cash aid for qualified tertiary education students, the Subfly flight ticket subsidy programme, public scholarships amounting to RM50 million and laptop assistance among others. The group also voiced strong support for the monarchical institution in Sabah, claiming it is a unifying force in a multicultural state and criticising what it sees as attempts by Peninsular-based political actors to undermine it. They said they submitted their notice of the rally to the Kota Kinabalu police on June 16. The Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 rally was given the greenlight by police on June 18. They had announced their rally last month. The rally is expected to begin on Saturday at 1.00pm in front of Suria Sabah shopping mall, with participants marching to Lintasan Deasoka, Gaya Street, and continuing the demonstration through Sunday. Their demands include action on the Sabah Water Department scandal, institutional reforms for the anti-corruption commission and suspension of individuals accused of corruption. The rallies coincide with the 74th official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri tomorrow morning.

Blackout, then blaze: What led up to the fatal fire that claimed the life of Hamzah Zainudin's mother-in-law in Ipoh home
IPOH, June 20 — The home of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin's in-laws in Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan here reportedly experienced a power outage before it caught fire last night. The blaze claimed the life of Hamzah's mother-in-law, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, while her husband, Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, 83, suffered from breathing difficulties. Their son, Ahmad Ikhwan, 57, said his youngest sibling, who lives at the house, told him the incident occurred at about 9.15pm. 'My brother went out to check on the neighbours, thinking there was a blackout in the whole area, but there wasn't. 'Then he saw thick smoke coming out of mum's room. He rushed back in and saw the room was already filled with smoke,' he told reporters here today. Ahmad Ikhwan said his father is currently receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here. He added that his mother's remains will be buried at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim cemetery after funeral prayers at Masjid Jamek Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat today. Meanwhile, Hamzah was seen arriving at the HRPB Forensics Department with his wife, Datin Seri Norashikin Abdul Ghani, before accompanying the hearse to the mosque. Earlier, Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the police received an emergency call at 9.19pm and confirmed that the fire involved a two-storey house. Outgoing IGP Razarudin retires after 42 years, urges creation of dedicated police ministry
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Outgoing Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain today handed over his duties to his successor, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, marking the end of a 42-year career with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The official handover ceremony, held at the Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim in Pulapol Kuala Lumpur, also saw the appointment of Datin Sri Munirah Che Rose as the new chairperson of the Police Family Association (PERKEP) Malaysia. Razarudin congratulated Khalid on his appointment as the 15th Inspector-General of Police, expressing confidence in Khalid's leadership and integrity in taking the force to greater heights. 'Congratulations also to Datin Sri Munirah Che Rose on her appointment. I believe she will continue to uphold PERKEP's legacy,' he said in a statement today.
