Sushisamba Introduces Sushi Week Honoring International Sushi Day
This June, SUSHISAMBA Doha invites guests to celebrate sushi like never before with the launch of SUSHI WEEK, a brand-new global tradition in honor of International Sushi Day, June 18th.
For the first time ever, signature Samba Rolls from across the SUSHISAMBA universe — typically exclusive to their home cities — will be available globally. Spanning four dynamic regions — the UK and Europe, USA, Middle East, and Southeast Asia — this limited-time showcase brings together our most iconic creations in one unforgettable menu.
Joining the global initiative from June 17-21st, SUSHISAMBA Doha presents: Samba London, Vegas, Singapore and the hometown favorite Samba Doha roll — a dish that beautifully reflects the region's rich flavors, made with lobster, sesame aioli, kizami yuba, and crispy rice. At the heart of the celebration is The World Tour — a striking 12-piece, chef-curated nigiri assortment that pays homage to SUSHISAMBA locations worldwide: London (Covent Garden & Heron Tower), Edinburgh, Las Vegas, Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Singapore — and upcoming destinations including Los Angeles and Milan.
' SUSHI WEEK is a celebration of everything we love about sushi — its beauty, its precision, and its ability to bring people together,' says Corporate Chef John Um. 'What excites me most is that, for the first time, guests around the world can experience signature rolls that are usually exclusive to our individual cities. Usually, you'd have to fly to Vegas or Abu Dhabi — now, we're bringing those flavors to your table.'
This global celebration marks a milestone in SUSHISAMBA's international evolution — a bold tribute to creativity, craftsmanship, and connection, with one simple message: great sushi transcends borders.

Spy themed interactive experience comes to London at the end of May
An espionage themed immersive experience that first opened in New York is coming to London later this month. Skyscape will launch at the end of May at a 25,000 sq ft site on Wellington Street in Covent Garden with tickets starting from £23. It will be the first overseas location of a concept that began on Eighth Avenue, Manhattan, in 2018 and started with as a James Bond inspired exhibit featuring the actual Aston Martin DB5 driven by Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye. The New York venue is a 60,000 sq ft interative museum created by London-based private investment group Archimedia and designed by the British-Ghanian architect Sir David Adjaye best known for the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC. Spyscape HQ now has seven main gallery zones including Encryption, which focuses on the cryptanalysts who cracked the German Enigma Machine in the Second World War, and Special Ops, which highlights the work of wartime SOE Officer Virginia Hall. Visitors have the opportunity to test their own skills with various 'challenges' throughout the galleries. The website describes the London experience as offering the chance to 'explore hidden worlds, break codes, run surveillance, dodge lasers and more in a thrilling 90 minute brain-teasing experience.' At the end of their visit to the London site each visitor will receive a detailed 42 page profile of their own personality, skills and attributes – developed by a former head of training at British Intelligence and a leading psychology professor at Imperial College London. The venue also has a social gaming experience called Spygames. Both venues will be open 10am to 8pm Sunday to Thursday and up to 10pm on Friday and Saturday. John Hunt, founder and chief executive at Spyscape, told the Propel hospitality website: 'Our mission at Spyscape is to inspire ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things, through personalised content and immersive experiences. 'Having welcomed more than one million visitors to our Manhattan location, we believe Covent Garden's vibrant cultural scene and central location make it the ideal setting to expand our efforts and engage an even broader international audience.' Other locations in Dubai and Dublin are planned for later in the year.

Self-regulation marked by Covent Garden performers
Street artistes at London's Covent Garden are marking 50 years of performing in the piazza. The location varies from the others in the city in that it has never required a licence or a permit to get a pitch. Westminster City Council brought in a borough-wide scheme in 2021, but the Covent Garden Street Performers Association (CGSPA) decided not to be involved, instead relying on self-governance. Aicha Less, from the council, said licencing ensured "fair treatment for all performers" and hoped to work with the CGSPA to develop guidance on regulation in the future. For 50 years, the performers have managed themselves without formal permits, programming teams, or external regulation. Melvyn Altwarg, a CGSPA spokesperson, said the current system had worked well for decades. "Covent Garden works because we built it. "No one had to come in with a policy document – we figured it out on the cobblestones." He added: "We developed our own system for rotating pitches, drawing lots for performance times, and resolving disputes collectively." Street performing in the square dates back to at least 1662, when Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary about a marionette show. Modern-day artists to have cut their teeth in Covent Garden include Cirque Du Soleil, STOMP and Dynamo. The regulatory scheme brought in by Westminster City Council has largely been complied with in other areas. Performers in Leicester Square were recently subject to a noise abatement notice categorising music played by buskers as a statutory nuisance and akin to "psychological torture". Aicha Less, from the council, said it was very supportive of "the immensely talented street performers who bring joy to tourists and residents alike". She said the aim of regulation was to "balance the needs of businesses and residents while ensuring street performers and buskers can continue to do what they do best. "There are no informal agreements with any performer associations, and our licensing scheme aims to set a level playing field - ensuring fair treatment for all performers whilst allowing others to live and work without excessive crowding or noise."
