Appointment of General Asim Munir, the Pakistan Army Chief, as the second Field Marshal of Pakistan Army, is surprising not because he did not step down as Army Chief or flee from the country as a defeated General but because he did not declare a coup in Pakistan – as the history in Pakistan suggests. Stepping down would have meant conceding a defeat. To convince their masses about blatant lies on the latest conflict, he rather chose to upgrade himself as a Field Marshal for the time being but it may not be a surprise, as again a situation is developing towards an ambitious General becoming the President of Pakistan soon. People in Pakistan are mocking him; is he trying to replace Quaid-e-Azam next? Then there is discontent within Pakistan Army; next-in-line Generals have their axe to grind too. How long the Field Marshal will survive is a moot question?
Despite pyrrhic victory, India has not lowered her guard and has declared a 'new normal' that if there is any terror attack, it will be considered an act of war and Operation Sindoor is not over yet.
What might be the next misadventure by Pakistan as it is believed that Pakistan is not going to sit idle and do nothing. It is waiting to recover and recoup and strike again sooner or later.
One of the important factors that Pakistan might consider in a riposte is the Indus Water Treaty held in abeyance. Could they do something against the dams created across the rivers? A madman's logic might permit it; since no water is flowing towards Pakistan, why not damage select areas which are trying to divert and feed the water towards Indian farmers? Even if the damage to the dams might flood Pakistan initially, in the long run, they would have water for their farmers as the dams would take time to rebuild and international pressure would kick in.
Keeping the IMF loan in mind, international reaction and above all the Indian response in mind, it is apparent that Pakistan may not venture into another terrorist attack in the immediate future in the most vulnerable and obvious places. For example, the upcoming Amarnath Yatra is the most anticipated event to be attacked, but it may not face it (it doesn't warrant any complacency though). There are two reasons, one that it will be heavily guarded and secondly, but most importantly, it does not present any surprise. We may recall that there were no attacks in Prayagraj during Maha Kumbh where both these two factors were present. If we really look at the pattern of attacks by the cross-border terrorists, it has always been at a place where the attack is the least expected; Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Pulwama and Uri are the examples. Pakistan will activate its sleeper cells deep inside India and try and create mayhem and blame on home grown rebels. A greater vigil is needed.
What would an aspiring Field Marshal want to do to become the next President? A spectacular show against India! The Indian Armed Forces have demonstrated their superiority and technological edge and caused considerable damage to their military infrastructure and important airbases that would require Pakistan time to catch up. Pakistan's supporters – China, Turkey, Azerbaijan or some other countries are likely to come to her assistance again, even though they might also hesitate seeing Pakistan's incompetent handling of their equipment and poor professionalism.
Pakistan might want to take a chance to launch a conventional attack considering the punishment to terror attack or grabbing a strategic piece of ground is same. It knows it can't face the Indian Armed Forces alone; China will need to open a second front. Imposing a two-front war for India is not an easy option but it is still a choice that could be made.
Timings of the next misadventure by Pakistan can't be predicted. Depending upon how fast the situation in Pakistan develops and soonest an opportunity is available, Field Marshal Munir will not hesitate to take a revenge India needs to be fully prepared for any misadventure by Pakistan again.

With the tensions escalating in the Middle East following the conflict between Israel and Iran, a special flight under Operation Sindhu brought back over 280 Indian nationals on Sunday. According to the details, the Mahan Air flight (W50071A), carrying mostly students and pilgrims, landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Over 200 students from Jammu and Kashmir were among the passengers, while others were pilgrims who had travelled to Iran for Ziarat. After the passengers stepped off the aircraft, many of them held Indian flags and expressed relief and gratitude for the safe return. Earlier on Wednesday, India launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate its citizens from Iran amid the rising tensions between Tehran and Israel. Also on Friday, two Mahan Air flights carrying 1,000 Indian students, including 500 Kashmiris, from Iran's Mashhad landed in Delhi. A third flight also landed on Saturday. In a diplomatic outreach to its neighbours, the Indian Embassy in Iran on Saturday stated that it will help evacuating the Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals from Iran. After both nations requested India's help in evacuating their citizens, the Indian Embassy agreed to assist Nepal and Sri Lanka. The embassy also released emergency helpline numbers for Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals stuck in Iran. 'On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy's evacuation efforts in Iran will also cover Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka,' Indian Embassy in Iran posted on X. It added, 'The citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka may urgently reach out to the Embassy, either on the Telegram channel or over the emergency contact numbers. +989010144557; +989128109115; +989128109109' These strikes were targeted at uranium enrichment plants at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Confirming the attacks chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, US Gen Dan Caine, briefed the press stating Operation Midnight Hammer involved 125 US military aircraft including seven B-2 stealth bombers. Following the US strikes, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi calls the US attack on their uclear sites 'unforgivable' and said Iran has 'to respond based on our legitimate right to self-defence'.

Israel-Iran conflict: PIB debunks claims of US using Indian airspace for Iran strikes; calls them ‘fake'

NEW DELHI: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Sunday dismissed social media rumours suggesting that the United States used Indian airspace to carry out airstrikes on Iran during 'Operation Midnight Hammer. ' The government agency categorically stated that these claims are false. 'Several social media accounts have claimed that Indian Airspace was used by the United States to launch aircraft against Iran during Operation Midnight Hammer. This claim is FAKE. Indian Airspace was NOT used by the United States during Operation Midnight Hammer,' PIB said in an official statement. The clarification comes in the wake of multiple online posts alleging that India facilitated the US strikes, which targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. India has maintained a cautious stance in the conflict and has not offered its airspace for any military operations related to the ongoing confrontation between the US, Iran, and Israel.

Several senior leaders of Imran Khan's party get relief from Pak courts

Several senior leaders of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party have been granted relief by courts in protest-related cases, a media report said on Sunday (June 22, 2025). Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including its chairman Gohar Ali Khan and Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub, were on Saturday acquitted by a court in Islamabad in two protest-related cases from last year, the Dawn newspaper reported. Islamabad Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Ahmed announced the verdict in the cases related to a protest on April 26 last year. The protest moved from the office of PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen towards the Karachi Company, reportedly in violation of Section 144 and other legal provisions. After hearing all arguments, the court acquitted Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, Ali Bukhari, Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Rafique, Amir Dogar, Amir Mughal and others. Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore granted bail to former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a May 9, 2023, riots case. ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced the verdict in the case related to the Shadman Police Station attack case during the May 9 riots that erupted after the arrest of PTI founder Khan. The judge deferred till June 26 a decision on another bail petition of the PTI leader in a case relating to the burning of police vehicles near Lahore Corps. Mr. Qureshi's counsel had argued that the PTI leader was not even present in Lahore on May 9 — the day of the alleged attack — and was in Karachi with his wife for her medical treatment. The counsel stated that the allegation of conspiracy against Mr. Qureshi regarding the May 9 attacks was not proven and the petitioner should be granted bail, as many co-suspects in the same case had already been allowed bail. Earlier, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema also filed a bail petition in the same Shadman Police Station attack case. Mr. Khan is booked in several cases in Lahore in connection with the May 9, 2023, violence, including for allegedly inciting his supporters to attack government and military buildings, which erupted after his arrest by paramilitary Rangers from the Islamabad High Court premises. The 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases.
