Sabah Hapkido athletes bag a gold, 2 bronzes

Published on: Saturday, June 21, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 21, 2025 By: Azmie Lim Text Size: The four Sabah athletes who represented Malaysia. LAHAD DATU: The Sabah Hapkido team brought home three medals from the Southeast Asia Hapkido Championship 2025 held in Indonesia from June 14 to 15. Sabah Hapkido founder and President, Master Bernardo Vivero said Sabah bagged a gold medal and two bronzes in the championship. Bernardo said Ikhwanul Hakim Endrajid secured the gold medal after defeating two athletes from Thailand. He further said Ikhwanul showed an amazing performance including winning a technical knockout (TKO) in the early round and complete victory in the final round. 'His amazing performance saw him crowned as the best youth athlete of the championship. 'We also secured two bronze medals from Daphne Suling and Mohd Izwan Fitri. Advertisement 'Our other athlete, Affyzan Bernardo also showed standout performance but had to concede to the participant from Cambodia in the quarter-finals,' he said. According to Bernardo, the success shows that although Hapkido is newly introduced in Malaysia, especially in Sabah, it has successfully produced high calibre young athletes to compete at the international level. He said all the athletes will diligently continue learning and training to inspire more people to join Hapkido. 'Hapkido is a Korean martial art that emphasises practical self-defence, incorporating techniques like joint locks, grappling, throws and striking. Leading jockeys Firdaus, Fazli intensify battle for supremacy

Published on: Saturday, June 21, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 21, 2025 Text Size: Jockey Firdaus (with 15 wins to date) on Triten. Kota Kinabalu: This Sunday's Race 2 (Initiation) over 1,100m sandtrack is a decent field of 9 starters with All is Well marked early as favourite. First Time has demonstrated consistency and should pose a serious threat. Roxette is industrious at this level. With season leading jockey Firdaus on board, she can fight for top position. Two wins behind Firdaus, jockey Fazli D has decent chance to narrow the gap on board the promising Honey Prize. Race 3 (Class 5) over 1,000m sandtrack is the highlight race. Kokorriko, Lucky Lady II and Fight Again are expected to challenge one another. Hunter Champ is honest-type and has ability to keep pace behind the leaders and attack in the final phase. Advertisement Diva is up-and-coming with two 'prep' runs at higher Class 5 competition and looks ready this time. Placing is within her reach. Race 4 (Class 5) over 1,000m sandtrack sees Brilliant Crystal ready to see off Tambalang's speed-kings Amoyy and Apin Apin Prince. Quality-types Cooler Than Ice and Brave Guard can be considered for minor placings. Royal Sabah Turf Club's (RSTC) Kinabalu Light is entered for Race 11 (Class 5A) over 1,600m at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday. Up against a congested field of 13 other runners, Kinabalu Light has his work cut out. This race is too close to call with Kick and Run Buddy Run at top of the list. Superbowl should find Class 5 competition less intensive and has experience to fight for first position. Chinese Dream is wily and talented type, a minor placing is within his means. Another RSTC runner Vittoria Perfetta is entered for Race 12 (Class 5B) over 1,600m. Hardworking jockey PH Seow is on board which should give Vittoria Perfetta a decent run. Top Confidence is favourite with two impressive wins and a second position in his last three runs. Forest Gold and Tigarous round up the selections. Manchester City fined £1 million after delayed Premier League kick-offs

Published on: Friday, June 20, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 20, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group G match between Manchester City FC and Wydad AC at Lincoln Financial Field on June 18, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. - AFP pic. MANCHESTER City have been fined more than £1 million by the Premier League over delayed kick-offs in nine matches last season. Premier League officials announced on Thursday that Pep Guardiola's side had breached rules around kick-off and restart times between October and February. Advertisement The longest delay was two minutes and 24 seconds before the resumption of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in December. The Premier League said City had accepted the breaches and apologised for the incidents. The fines total £1.08 million ($1.45 million). 'Rules relating to kick-offs and restarts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs,' a Premier League statement said. Advertisement 'It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule.' It is not the first time City have been in trouble for their tardy kick-offs. The club were fined more than £2 million last year for 22 breaches of the kick-off and restart rules. Guardiola's men finished third in the Premier League last season as their four-year reign as champions came to an end. City, who also suffered a shock FA Cup final defeat against Crystal Palace, are currently playing in the Club World Cup in the United States. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
