A proposed framework to introduce a fee structure for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions that will target large merchants, while ensuring that end users continue to make payments without any merchant discount rate (MDR), is being pursued by the sector, according to sources from the financial technology (fintech) industry.
This comes even as the Ministry of Finance, in a social media post on X last week, clarified that it did not plan to introduce an MDR on UPI payments.
If the proposal is accepted, customers who use UPI for daily transactions will not have to pay any fee to continue

Guided by Values, Built with Joy: The Legacy Behind Simchah Estates

Hyderabad—a city once defined by its Nizami charm and historic landmarks—has, over the decades, transformed into a booming metropolis of enterprise, innovation, and vertical ambition. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now From IT corridors to eco-conscious communities, the city's built environment tells a story of rapid progress—guided by the steady hands of visionaries who believed in its potential. Among them are Thadi Ram Kumar Reddy (TRK Reddy) and Dasari Sandhya Sree —family friends for over 30 years, and pioneers in their respective fields of construction and design. Their enduring friendship and shared values have laid the foundation for a new chapter in Hyderabad's development. That legacy now continues through Simchah Estates , a new-generation construction company led by Dasari Tejo Ananth , son of Sandhya Sree, and Thadi Snigdha , daughter of TRK Reddy—two young visionaries united by trust, heritage, and a shared dream to build with purpose. From Bureaucracy to Brickwork TRK Reddy began his professional journey in the Customs Department, Ministry of Finance , and after a decade of government service, opted for Voluntary Retirement in 2002. With an MBA from Andhra University, he transitioned into the private sector—first through hospitality with his Celebrations chain, and soon after, into construction with a series of landmark projects that defined his second innings. His work in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam under Sri Ram Homes and later with the Lansum Group set new benchmarks in residential construction. Projects like Lansum Etania —a high-end, high-rise gated community with 552 apartments spread across 2 million sq. ft.—remain icons of modern urban planning. Other projects such as Swathi, Uttara, Parnasala, and Samskruthi reflect his deep understanding of urban needs and long-term sustainability. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now His approach was simple: build homes that last, enhance communities, and uphold integrity—a principle that became his hallmark. Sandhya Sree: A Visionary in Green Design In the story of TRK Reddy stands a long-time family friend and creative force— Dasari Sandhya Sree . A pioneering architect and landscape designer, she has played a pivotal role in shaping Hyderabad's green lungs and civic spaces. With a from JNAFAU , Hyderabad, and a Gold Medal in (Landscape) from SPA, New Delhi , she has spent over three decades blending structure with serenity. Inspired by her early years in Edinburgh, Scotland, she brought a sensitive, sustainable approach to design leadership at Frontiers Infra, Frontiers Design Syndicate , and Sumanjali Landscapes . Her imprint spans over 200 projects—many in collaboration with the government—including Lotus Pond, Japanese Garden, Krishnakant Park, Indira Park, and HUDA green belts in AS Rao Nagar, Keesaragutta, and Patelkunta . Even in dense urban areas, her designs have created pockets of peace and breathing spaces—bringing nature into the heart of the city. What sets her apart is not just technical brilliance, but emotional intelligence—designing with empathy as much as expertise. In 2021, the next chapter began with the founding of Simchah Estates Pvt. Ltd , established by Dasari Tejo Ananth and Thadi Snigdha to carry forward the shared vision and timeless values of TRK Reddy and Dasari Sandhya Sree . Tejo brings sharp business acumen and diverse cross-sector experience, while Snigdha contributes a strong architectural foundation and project execution skills, shaped under the mentorship of both TRK Reddy and Sandhya Sree. The name , meaning 'joy,' reflects what they seek to build—not just homes, but spaces that uplift lives. This next generation is not merely continuing a legacy; they are reshaping it for a new era with purpose, creativity, and heart. Their flagship project, Acasa in Kokapet , is a bold statement of that vision. A single tower rising 35 floors high with 102 thoughtfully designed homes, it blends contemporary luxury with sustainable architecture. Acasa reflects the values inherited over the past 50 years from TRK Reddy's construction legacy and draws deeply from Sandhya Sree's design lineage along with her father Dr. V. Malakonda Reddy, the lineage began in 1974, when her father, , built one of Hyderabad's first apartment buildings Nandanam apartments in Abids —a landmark moment that ushered in the age of vertical living in the city. Today, Acasa carries forward that pioneering spirit, built on legacy and envisioned for the future. New Legacy in the Making Though Simchah represents a generational evolution, the guiding force of TRK Reddy and Sandhya Sree remains central. As Directors, TRK Reddy continues to mentor the team, shape strategy, and uphold the values of quality and integrity, while Sandhya Sree's decades of design leadership continue to inspire Simchah's aesthetic and environmental sensibilities. Together, they represent a rare blend of governance, creativity, and generational wisdom. And as moves forward, it carries their values—of discipline, innovation, and compassion—building not just for the city, but with it.

KSRTC's Davanagere division records uptick in digital payments

Davanagere: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) achieved notable success in digital payments, collecting Rs 10 crore in eight months through its Davanagere division. This achievement follows KSRTC's intensified promotion of UPI payments since Nov 2024. The organisation aims to collect Rs 1 crore daily through digital means, targeting 50% of all transactions. Passengers embraced the QR code payment system for bus fares, despite initial technical difficulties. The digital payment implementation resolved issues related to small change, enhancing the travel experience and reducing conflicts between passengers and conductors. The Davanagere division also introduced UPI payments via smart electronic ticket machines (ETMs) in Nov. Travellers now complete transactions using applications like PhonePe and Google Pay. Digital payments are more prevalent on long-distance routes with reliable network coverage. Inter-district and interstate services show higher digital transaction rates when compared to urban and rural routes. City passengers display less inclination towards UPI payments for smaller fares. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sanitize & Smooth Clothes Fast with Philips Steamer Philips Garment Steamers Shop Now Undo Premium service users typically book tickets online in advance. From Nov 2024 to June 15, 2025, the division collected Rs 11 crore via UPI across its three depots: Davanagere Depot-1, Davanagere Depot-2, and Harihar Depot. Monthly collections increased steadily: November (Rs 29.2 lakh), December 2024 (Rs 1 crore), January 2025 (Rs 1.3 crore), February (Rs 1.5 crore), March (Rs 1.6 crore), April (Rs 1.8 crore), May (Rs 1.9 crore), and June (Rs 1.9 crore). The division manages 404 buses with 490 ETMs, including backup units. Occasional technical issues led to payment deductions without ticket issuance, causing disputes. The refund system improved, with reimbursements now processed within 48 hours, reduced from one week previously. Passengers are showing a preference for digital payments, and if a ticket is not printed, the amount is credited to their account within 24 hours. We solved some technical issues, and we are expecting more digital payments in our division, said Kiran Kumar Basapur, KSRTC divisional controller, Davanagere.

India Post helps transform geolocation with DIGIPIN

More than 50 years after six-digit Postal Index Number revolutionised mail delivery in India, the Department of Post has rolled out a 10-digit alpha numeric Digital Postal Index Number (DIGIPIN). 'The DIGIPIN is like online maps but only more accurate. Its geolocation is accurate up to 4 metres as it generates latitude and longitude. While the PIN code covered a large area (average area of around 170 sq. km per Pincode), the DIGIPIN narrows it down to a narrow grid,' Chief Post Master of General Post Office, Hyderabad Circle, Y. Prasad explained. The 10- digit alpha-numeric code represents geographic coordinates, developed by creating a uniform 4x4 metre grid of the country. The DIGIPIN is a collaborative effort of India Post, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, National Remote Sensing Centre and Indian Space Research Organisation. 'The PIN code was used for sorting mail. But its usage was limited as many people did not care to write it down and much of the addressing and delivery was down to local knowledge and information. The DIGIPIN is a machine-readable code that can help mail delivery even when drones will be deployed for the purpose,' said Mr. Prasad. With enhanced location accuracy, DIGIPIN is expected to be very useful during emergencies as it can generate precise geographic coordinates ensuring faster response times. However, as the DIGIPIN is a latitude and longitude based grid its use for multi-storeyed building complexes in urban areas is likely to be a challenge. The DIGIPIN is part of the IT 2.0 rollout of the India Post where it will be integrated with mobile devices provided to the staff for carrying out online postal, financial and insurance transactions. In the pipeline is a digital address layer, similar to the UPI ID, which has helped eliminate the recall and use of banking information. The digital address is expected to allow users to generate unique and customised labels (such as username@domain) to represent their DIGIPIN and descriptive addresses and manage this information. Interestingly, the 4 X 4 grid of India encompasses areas in neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh and generates the DIGIPIN for areas in those countries as well.
