Central Spectrum chief executive officer Mohd Zapi Abdullah said the contribution will be channelled directly to Tabung Selangor Prihatin to provide vital assistance to affected residents and their families. 'Our collective contribution of RM212,000 is a reflection of our deep commitment to standing with the community during difficult times. 'It is during moments like these that unity, compassion and swift action truly matter,' he told Bernama during Central Spectrum's Raya Open House 2025 at its Sales Gallery in Pulau Indah here yesterday. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was also present at the event, alongside community members, corporate partners and dignitaries. The fire incident on April 1 destroyed 81 homes with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, while 81 homes were partially destroyed. Another 57 homes were impacted but not burned, and 218 homes, including those in Kampung Tengah, Puchong, were unaffected. In line with its tradition of community care, Central Spectrum also presented duit raya to students from Maahad Tahfiz Darul Furqon, Pulau Indah, to bring festive cheer and reaffirm its commitment to nurturing future generations. Mohd Zapi also announced upcoming developments, including a waterfront residential project at Laguna Park and a logistics gateway in Precinct 1B, Pulau Indah. 'These projects are set to drive growth and innovation across Pulau Indah over the next four years. With a steadfast focus on community empowerment, sustainable development, and humanitarian impact, Central Spectrum continues to shape a future where business success goes hand-in-hand with social responsibility,' he said. Costly click: Facebook investment scam drains Johor retiree of RM535,000 in three months
JOHOR BARU, June 21 — A private sector retiree lost RM535,766 after allegedly falling victim to an online investment scam promoted via an advertisement on the Facebook application. Seri Alam District Police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the police received a report from a 57-year-old local man on Tuesday, who claimed losses exceeding RM500,000. He said the victim had come across a share investment advertisement on Facebook on March 13 that promised lucrative returns within a short time, and clicked on the provided link out of interest. 'Subsequently, the victim made 26 payment transactions into five different bank accounts between March 13 and June 5, totalling RM535,766. The victim was also asked to make additional payments to withdraw the so-called 'investment profits', but those requests were never fulfilled,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Sohaimi said the victim only realised he had been duped after repeated attempts to recover the investment funds proved futile. 'Preliminary checks via the CCID's 'Semak Mule' platform found that all five accounts involved had a total of 22 police reports linked to investment scams,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and police are also looking into the possible involvement of mule account holders. — Bernama

Batu Ferringhi coastal erosion project nears completion
GEORGE TOWN: The coastal erosion mitigation project at Batu Ferringhi has made significant progress, with sandbag installation works now 95 per cent completed. State Infrastructure, Transport and Utility Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the initiative, which started in April, was funded through an emergency allocation of RM250,000. "The project, covering a 130m stretch from Rasa Sayang Hotel to Golden Sands Hotel, is now in its final stages, with contractors focusing on finishing works," he said in his latest Facebook entry. He also showed several photos of the work done. Zairil said, in addition to the immediate response, a long-term solution was underway under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), with an estimated cost of RM61 million. He said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) is currently in the process of appointing surveyor for hydrographic survey of the coastline, which spans from Batu Ferringhi to Tanjung Bunga. "Physical works for the long-term solution are expected to begin next year or 2027," he added. During a visit here in April, Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the federal government had approved a RM61 million budget for vital restoration works for Batu Ferringhi following erosion issue. He said the project would focus on both immediate protection and long-term preservation, with particular details to maintaining the beach's attractiveness as a tourist destination. The design, to be finalised this year, would incorporate a combination of solutions such as breakwaters, sand nourishment, and other mitigation measures to stabilise the area and protect the 7km beachfront, stretching from Batu Ferringhi to Tanjung Bunga. The Batu Ferringhi beach, one of Penang's most iconic tourist destinations, has experienced considerable degradation over the past few years due to shifting sand and constant wave action.
